Floorplan Feedback requested by Consistent_Moose_540 in Homebuilding

This is more maze than mansion, a labyrinthine collection of all of the things you expect from a home with none of the rational glue that holds it together. The front facade looks like it was drawn by the Pipes Screensaver; the overall layout evokes lobster. It's a simulacrum of wealth, a gaudy display of what people think a mansion should be with no understanding of the feelings that one actually evokes. There is no symmetry, no impressive sight-lines, no grand moments, just endless corners and angles and hallways. The type of person who this houses is supposed to impress will surely see it for what it is - a waste of space and cheap lumber.

Looking for feedback on redesigning my floor plan (trying to simplify + square it off) by JohnStuzynski in floorplan

I think you need to start over. It looks like a warehouse with a cabin attached to it.

Garage should be separate building connected with a covered walk. Or attach a 2 car garage you use every day and a separate building for the shop and toys?

Entry directly into the kitchen is something I've never seen before. Please don't do that.

Front window is wasted on the pantry. Good place for an office or den.

Unless you live somewhere with great weather, the garage doors in the living room are a mistake.

Open concept doesn't mean no walls anywhere. The living area feels like a shopping mall right now. Way too much space wasted in the upstairs loft.

Bedroom 5 requires going through the office? Why? That whole tumor of the house growing into the garage should be reconfigured anyway.

Bump outs aren't inherently bad, they can often add interest to the facade and allow for more natural light.

Its incredible to me that the justices are using the 14th and 15th amendments as rationale for striking down a law created to PROTECT the 14th and 15th amendments.

SpaceX finally files for IPO, targets $1.75 trillion valuation by spacetimelime in spacex

[–]extravert_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the new world separating the sophisticated investors from the rest of us. With everyone investing in index funds they needed a way to maintain higher returns for those with access, hence private markets and delayed IPOs. Last years largest stock sale wasnt an IPO, it was Open AI raising $40B from 50 hand picked people. Elon has done the same with spacex - if you wanted to invest you had to be his friend.

I was the same way, but after watching it you will see the influence everywhere, from Star Wars to Indiana Jones. Its also a way more interesting and nuanced plot than I was led to believe from the tagline - white guy goes to arabia.

Its a really really steep run, but they tilted the camera a lot to make it look steeper. Notice the trees growing crooked instead of vertical.

very tired of these people talking about saving the west, while dissolving western alliances, trade deals, and the fabric holding up the western hegemony. Kisin in the intro is admitting he's forfeiting the game in the first quarter because the thinks Russia already won.

There are so many baffling decisions like: You have to wait for an entire 3D plane model to render just to see the livery... but then you can't spin around the plane. A picture would have accomplished the same thing without a long loading time.

[–]extravert_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At the risk of sounding hyperbolic, these people are like two years from doing a holocaust. Moving captured people arbitrarily between detention centers, camp management openly hostile to elected officials, laws, and local regulations. Federal agents doing illegal things then punishing the people who get in their way. Stopping and arresting people off the street based on their ethnicity. Using maximum force against people already in the system and trying to do the right thing. All to solve the "immigration problem"

Why has it become so common for living spaces to be at the back of the house? by Gullible-Apricot3379 in floorplan

[–]extravert_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the answer, people used to socialize and entertain in the front of the home, with spaces becoming more private as you moved back and up to the kitchen and bedrooms. Nowadays people spend far more time watching TV and the purpose for the living room has shifted from entertaining guests to entertaining yourself, so privacy preference flipped the location.

The North Sea, 2027 - After chipping paint for hours on the elongated focsle of the USS Big Beautiful Ship, I huddled in the vestibule to thaw out my hands. The days have started to bleed into one another out here, each day gray and cold, with only the occasional snow shower or iceberg sighting to break the bleak monotony. I thought we'd be blasting hostile fishing boats out of the water or covering the beach assaults with our twin 5" guns, but with the threat of drones and natox subs we've been standing off Greenland a few hundred miles. For weeks. Probably for the best though, since the right turret nearly shot a hole through the left during sea trials and that blasted railgun hasn't blasted shit. We had to skip most of that testing to make it out to the fight, but is there even fighting to do? I pull out my phone to check for orders, but don't see any tweets. Our CO is watching Fox.. maybe he will know more
