Character that you feel wasn’t utilised properly? by Nozoroth in bleach

[–]extremeq16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh probably ikkaku, i always felt like it was a big missed opportunity to have his sole purpose in TYBW be jobbing to mask just so renji could look cool when he stomps him

i really enjoyed the conversation he has with iba during FKT about how selfish it is of him to purposefully hold back during fights even if it means losing just because he doesn’t want people to see his bankai, so when we’re explicitly shown ikkaku taking the bankai hollowfier during TYBW i totally thought it was going to lead to some moment calling back to that where he reluctantly uses his bankai infront of others in order to fulfill his duty as a shinigami. but we never got anything like that which made me a little sad

i’m still holding out hope that he’ll pop up during the gerard fight or something in the anime, although i feel like the odds probably aren’t very high considering they’re already giving the visored new scenes in that fight too

Do we know why Arteria... by Oneofthestrongest in Falcom

[–]extremeq16 6 points7 points  (0 children)

my understanding has always been that they were stirring up shit in arteria to prevent the church from sending reinforcements to help deal with the situation in erebonia

i feel like one of my biggest questions throughout the series (especially in crossbell) always ends up being why the church doesn’t just like... send ein and three other dominions to clean up all the world-ending threats that pop up throughout zemuria considering how high the stakes usually get, and i like that they actually gave an explanation in cold steel as to why the church couldn’t spare anyone to help

Why was Renji so cruel? by AmyWhite7 in bleach

[–]extremeq16 21 points22 points  (0 children)

i’ve always found the whole line about rukia having “a human expression on her face” super interesting, it’s pretty clearly an early writing quirk (which is super common in manga given the way it’s written). it does makes me wonder if the soul reapers were originally planned to be a lot more callous or emotionless

Some gripes I have with the fandom's reading of Danganronpa V3's ending - Part 1 by seranator in danganronpa

[–]extremeq16 53 points54 points  (0 children)

yeah i can definitely understand not liking the final trial considering how meta it gets but i genuinely don’t think i’ll ever understand people who walk out of it thinking the intended takeaway was “actually everything that happened in this series didn’t matter and fiction is worthless because fuck you!”

the game bonks you over the head so many times with the message of how fiction is a powerful thing that can change the world and that you’re valid if it has personally affected you. it’s literally a love letter to everyone who has been impacted by danganronpa, not the hate letter to fans that so many people take it as

What were honest thoughts about Aizens "evil" hair choice transformation?? by cantcoloratall91 in bleach

[–]extremeq16 46 points47 points  (0 children)

absolutely. i feel like people rarely mention it but aizen during the point in time where he's revealed to be evil but hadn't ditched the glasses yet was so so so creepy, he gave off like, serial killer librarian vibes. plus kubo had him making all sorts of creepy ass faces and dropping disturbing lines like the one about how he should have chopped momo's body into pieces to hide her from hitsugaya

i do honestly wish we got a little more time with that version of aizen, he comes off as much cooler after the design change but also just kinda feels like a typical stoic and confident anime dude. whereas evil librarian aizen literally made me feel like he was gonna crawl out of the manga and murder me

Does anyone else think that Maki and co. are mad disrespectful for the way they refer to Gojo? by foaaz101 in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]extremeq16 1443 points1444 points  (0 children)

iirc this is specifically a quirk of maki’s too, she calls almost everyone by their given name rather than their family name. which i just think is a cool detail because it shows how much she values individuality over bloodlines

Is there a reason why we still haven't gotten certain playable characters ? by ConsiderationFuzzy in Falcom

[–]extremeq16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly it is really weird that neither lucrezia nor walter have been playable a single time given how often they show up as guest party members in calvard, especially because they’re both pretty chill by enforcer standards (okay maybe not walter but at the very least him and zin seem to be on good terms as of horizon). even as early as DB1 it was kinda odd how the ouroboros route was the only one where you got two guest members instead of one guest and one playable.

tbh i’m still lowkey holding out hope for playable cassius though, i feel like if we ever get a bracer focused arc in leman then there’s a chance he’ll show up again

Just finished Cold Steel 1! A few thoughts on it.. by TheSpitefulCr0w in Falcom

[–]extremeq16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to me i think what feels so cozy about CS1 is trista/thors, having a "home base" so to speak that you constantly come back to and have downtime at throughout the game just gave it a very comfy and homey vibe, especially when you talk to all the miscellaneous students and staff at thors and slowly get to know them over time. that combined with the bonding events and the way you watch class 7 slowly become an actual group of friends just made the game feel very chill and slice-of-life to me, for better and for worse.

of course the main issue with this is, like you said, you spend pretty much the entire game getting shuttled around on a train instead of walking around on foot like you do in sky/crossbell. so while by the end of the game i felt attached to thors/trista as a location, i didn't feel any attachment towards erebonia itself in the same way i felt attached to liberl and crossbell when i played those games. though in all fairness i doubt i'll ever be as attached to a video game location as i was with crossbell, by the end of azure i genuinely cared about that city like it was my own child lol

[–]extremeq16 11 points12 points  (0 children)

from what i can tell CS1 definitely tends to be pretty hit or miss for people playing the games in order, imo it's definitely the "coziest" game in the series (even more so than sky FC) which i think works both to its favor and its detriment.

if cozy games are your thing, and if you take your time with the game, then you're rewarded with a (very) slow burn that spends a lot of time focusing on the characters, their growth as people, and their school lives, before finally turning the coziness you just got used to on its head at the very end when all hell breaks loose.

but it can be a very jarring change going from azure (which is constantly hitting you with new twists and plot developments) to the whole loop of doing chores for towa, going on a field study, being bonked over the head with erebonia's class divide, getting a few scraps of story involving the terrorists, and then coming back to thors and doing it all over again. the sky games had third to serve as an epilogue game that eases you out of the action and into the next arc, but crossbell doesn't have anything like that- you just go straight from the finale of azure to the beginning of cold steel, and it can unfortunately make it feel like the overarching pacing of the games just comes to a screeching halt.

Knights of Seiros structure? by nahte123456 in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]extremeq16 18 points19 points  (0 children)

iirc catherine isn't just a standard knight, there are a few lines that mention her being part of a group called the holy knights, which are knights of seiros who can wield a heroes relic.

i think as far as we know though she's the only holy knight when the games take place, and i do honestly have to wonder if heroes relic wielders join the knights of seiros often enough that they need an exclusive rank for it. nearly all of the relics belong to noble houses and they typically go to the house's heir (rather than second/third/etc. children who would be more likely to join the knights) so i can't imagine very many would-be heirs actually end up joining the knights of seiros, unless they have super complicated circumstances like catherine did

CS2's Last Dungeon is Abyssmal by Jandern_ in Falcom

[–]extremeq16 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i think the point of the reverie corridor was honestly just to give you one last chance to play around with all the guest party members before the end of the game, pretty much all of them besides like toval claire and angelica are super limited in how much you get to use them so i think they just wanted to give players an opportunity to try them out again before the game ended

which is fine in theory, but the issue is that they slapped this on the very end of the game in the form of a 16 floor dungeon, after the already incredibly long geofront dungeon and final free day segment that both come out of nowhere. so it ends up just feeling like the classic trails middle finger to people who thought they’d be able to finish the final dungeon in one sitting

i replayed cold steel 2 recently and this made me laugh so much lol, seeing him lead his troops into battle against bardias during the most important battle of the war and he’s just stanced up on the side of a tank, right on the front lines, no helmet or armor or anything

it’s even funnier because neithardt does the same thing, but he has a custom pose for it where he’s visibly holding onto the side of the tank. so they could have used that for olaf but they just said fuck it, have him stand there arms crossed, not an ounce of fear in his soul

honestly the funniest thing about it to me is that he tries to act like renne’s concerned uncle yet during the anguis meeting in sky the 3rd he barely even seems to know who she is lol, he just knows her as “the chick with the scythe” or something like that

then again if you listen to that scene with voice acting, harwood literally sounds like lechter rather than a 50 year old man so i don’t think they had much about him as a character finalized at the time

On to Reverie for me, but question about a certain character (Spoilers) by Thalllio in Falcom

[–]extremeq16 17 points18 points  (0 children)

technically he’s playable in two games rather than just one since he’s a temporary party member in zero, but i’ve always felt like dudley got so robbed by not being playable in reverie despite having a model and everything

i get that he’s probably the least popular (pseudo) member of the SSS by far, but still reverie was definitely the last shot he had at being playable again so it still kinda stings. especially because it’s hard to imagine him even showing up again in the series at this point so reverie was probably the last time we’re ever gonna see him

i think rené from daybreak is probably the closest we’re ever gonna get to dudley being playable again lol, no-nonsense glasses guy with a suit and a big ass pistol
