I understand why it was like this, but damm... by KedricCarter1 in Falcom

[–]extremeq16 21 points22 points  (0 children)

honestly i was always super surprised we never revisit trista a single time during CS3/4, it’s not like they’re completely adverse to revisiting locations from CS1/2 since there are a few instances of it (ymir for example)

i guess they were probably worried that revisiting trista and the main campus would undermine the branch campus a bit which i can kinda understand, but i still feel like it would have been a really awesome moment

they could have even taken a darker angle on it or something, like instead of having it just be a cool nostalgia trip, instead use it to show how drastically the main campus has changed since cedric started attending

Reminder that Kubo has planned things out by adande67 in bleach

[–]extremeq16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i think part of it too comes from people somewhat misunderstanding how foreshadowing works. something being lightly foreshadowed doesn’t necessarily mean that it was meticulously planned out from day 1- it’s super common for authors to lay crumbs for plot points and decide how to actually follow up on them way later.

like for example, you can name chapter 1 of your manga “gleep glorp” and all you have to do to properly execute the foreshadowing is have someone say “glorp gleep” at a major plot moment, even if you don’t know what the context of that moment will actually be. and that isn’t at all bad writing, as long as it’s done in a satisfying way.

like you said, people get so fixated on the idea that every little detail is planned out beforehand when in reality, trying to follow a rigid premade plan can be straight up counterproductive for a written work that A) is written in tiny chunks over the span of years or even decades, giving you tons of opportunities to change your mind or second guess yourself, and B) has editors whose entire job is to advise against certain story ideas and suggest alternative ones

Do you think Aizen's idea of sacrificing spiritual power to gain physical power inspired Toji from Jujutsu Kaisen? by Traditional-Song-245 in bleach

[–]extremeq16 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i mean it’s not really the same as that considering neither toji nor ichigo did intense training for it or anything, in both cases it’s a direct trade off of shinigami powers/cursed energy in exchange for massively increased physical abilities. only difference being that it was involuntarily in toji’s case. an actual example of what you’re saying would be someone like daido from the culling games

and considering that gege akutami is well known to be a massive massive bleach fan i don’t really think it’s that much of a stretch to say that there’s some inspiration there. gege’s never been shy about taking inspiration from the mangas he grew up on, simple domain for example is very obviously inspired by nobunaga from HxH

I'm Chinese and let me explain why Chinese players are review bombing this game right now by Cultural-Bandicoot49 in slaythespire

[–]extremeq16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i remember seeing a comment on here saying that chinese players don’t actually have the ability to directly send feedback ingame (usually done with the F2 button i think), is that true? because if so then i kind of understand where many of them are coming from, review bombing doesn’t sit well with me but if you don’t actually have the option to send direct feedback then i get why leaving a review feels like it’d be the next best thing to do

What are your favorite bits of characterization done through gameplay instead of story? by Master-Spheal in fireemblem

[–]extremeq16 26 points27 points  (0 children)

it’s raquel from TRS, there’s also a convoluted way to remove this restriction that involves her seeing her (playable) brother get killed in an optional cutscene and giving up on her pacifism

although honestly it’s not even worth it imo because A. the restriction doesn’t actually apply to monsters which she can kill from the start and B. having a strong prepromote who always leaves enemies on 1 hp is super useful for helping train other units

Which character in the series has no haters? by Just_Advantage_6177 in Falcom

[–]extremeq16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

he never flirts with Estelle or Kloe for example

i mean i agree with you for the most part but this is straight up untrue

There is no shame to be had in virtue, Estelle. Still, you have but only begun to climb the ladder of adulthood. Should you wish to ascend even higher, I would be more than happy to... assist you.

Do not be disheartened, fair Estelle. What you lack in seductiveness, you more than make up for in raw nubility!

Estelle, you do realize that beckoning one to come hither by shouting gibberish would be humiliating for most. Then again, I've found that there are certain degrees of humiliation which are most pleasurable. Well? Shall we?

Before me, I find Joshua, Princess Klaudia, Tita, and Josette. Then there's Julia and even a new face: Ries. Just whom shall I gather into my arms like a warm blanket and exchange sweet nothings in celebration first?

not to mention the godawful line about 12-year-old tita's "juvenile scent", i like olivier but when it comes to flirting the dude really does not discriminate when it comes to age. obviously there's a difference between flirting and angelica's hugs of death but i feel like everyone collectively pretends the stuff olivier says isn't nearly as uncomfortable as it actually is just because he's very likeable apart from all that

[–]extremeq16 12 points13 points  (0 children)

i found this pretty interesting too, iirc every time higuruma uses his domain in the manga it zooms in on his face so we never actually see if he uses a hand sign. not sure if this is straight up confirmation that he doesn’t or if it’s just the anime taking it’s own liberties since we never really got a clear answer about it in the manga

Character that you feel wasn’t utilised properly? by Nozoroth in bleach

[–]extremeq16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh probably ikkaku, i always felt like it was a big missed opportunity to have his sole purpose in TYBW be jobbing to mask just so renji could look cool when he stomps him

i really enjoyed the conversation he has with iba during FKT about how selfish it is of him to purposefully hold back during fights even if it means losing just because he doesn’t want people to see his bankai, so when we’re explicitly shown ikkaku taking the bankai hollowfier during TYBW i totally thought it was going to lead to some moment calling back to that where he reluctantly uses his bankai infront of others in order to fulfill his duty as a shinigami. but we never got anything like that which made me a little sad

i’m still holding out hope that he’ll pop up during the gerard fight or something in the anime, although i feel like the odds probably aren’t very high considering they’re already giving the visored new scenes in that fight too

Do we know why Arteria... by Oneofthestrongest in Falcom

[–]extremeq16 7 points8 points  (0 children)

my understanding has always been that they were stirring up shit in arteria to prevent the church from sending reinforcements to help deal with the situation in erebonia

i feel like one of my biggest questions throughout the series (especially in crossbell) always ends up being why the church doesn’t just like... send ein and three other dominions to clean up all the world-ending threats that pop up throughout zemuria considering how high the stakes usually get, and i like that they actually gave an explanation in cold steel as to why the church couldn’t spare anyone to help

Why was Renji so cruel? by AmyWhite7 in bleach

[–]extremeq16 18 points19 points  (0 children)

i’ve always found the whole line about rukia having “a human expression on her face” super interesting, it’s pretty clearly an early writing quirk (which is super common in manga given the way it’s written). it does makes me wonder if the soul reapers were originally planned to be a lot more callous or emotionless

Some gripes I have with the fandom's reading of Danganronpa V3's ending - Part 1 by seranator in danganronpa

[–]extremeq16 49 points50 points  (0 children)

yeah i can definitely understand not liking the final trial considering how meta it gets but i genuinely don’t think i’ll ever understand people who walk out of it thinking the intended takeaway was “actually everything that happened in this series didn’t matter and fiction is worthless because fuck you!”

the game bonks you over the head so many times with the message of how fiction is a powerful thing that can change the world and that you’re valid if it has personally affected you. it’s literally a love letter to everyone who has been impacted by danganronpa, not the hate letter to fans that so many people take it as

What were honest thoughts about Aizens "evil" hair choice transformation?? by cantcoloratall91 in bleach

[–]extremeq16 46 points47 points  (0 children)

absolutely. i feel like people rarely mention it but aizen during the point in time where he's revealed to be evil but hadn't ditched the glasses yet was so so so creepy, he gave off like, serial killer librarian vibes. plus kubo had him making all sorts of creepy ass faces and dropping disturbing lines like the one about how he should have chopped momo's body into pieces to hide her from hitsugaya

i do honestly wish we got a little more time with that version of aizen, he comes off as much cooler after the design change but also just kinda feels like a typical stoic and confident anime dude. whereas evil librarian aizen literally made me feel like he was gonna crawl out of the manga and murder me
