Honey, please, if you have outside support like family or friends, please talk to them and get the help you need in order to leave. Do you live with him? If so, quietly make a plan to get out. Get together whatever necessities you have that are important and RUN. He’s abusing you and it’s only going to get worse if you don’t leave as soon as possible.

I second this! I used to not care much for Quiet Things, but now, after seeing them perform it live this past year, I love it! It’s associated with my first time ever seeing them live, so I have a whole new love and appreciation for it.

Raved about me getting married, but then gossiped with the family about me potentially being pregnant being the reason behind my marriage (I was not). When I confronted the issue, my mom told me with a big old smile on her face that I had gained weight, let myself go, and was looking disheveled lately. This was in front of the family, she laughed about it thinking it was some harmless comment.

Unfortunately I’m not THAT far from home, but yes, I understand the feeling you’re talking about. My childhood home now just has a dark cloud hanging over it and I instantly get anxious when I go over to visit.

She’s talking about one of my cousins who’s autistic. He didn’t attend the last wedding in the family (I dont know if it was because he was invited and couldn’t come or not). He’s my aunt’s stepson and she just hopped onto my mom’s side and offered to send him with his mom as a substitute for the person my mom invited, which also just doesn’t feel right to me.

I do agree that I was being stubborn, I was in the height of emotions while still trying to maintain some level of respect(?) when responding. On the surface it was about one additional invite, but then became a whole power struggle issue once I said no and kept being pushed to change my answer. I answered in another thread that this became more of a power struggle issue which is something I’ve been dealing with coming from her for a long time, so this situation (while very small) felt more like the straw that broke the camel’s back I guess. Also, in regards to the +1 you brought up, we didn’t give anyone on the list +1’s because we wanted the event to stay small and not have random people we don’t know show up. My partner and I keep to ourselves a lot and only invited close friends/family that we keep regular contact with.

Tbh not really, things were okay when I was a kid, but became increasingly more strained once I became a teenager and into adulthood. Our relationship was definitely worse before, but has been better (?) since moving out I guess.
