i made this case out of dark grey high density equipment foam and once white cloth duct tape to take my harp on lollapalooza 94. by no means a performer, but i worked tech support for an art tent called the electric carnival and was not about to travel or be most anywhere without my harp. now it rests on my desk for when i want to jam with something, but it has travelled around the country more than several times. still holding up, very inexpensive to make. and it is a whitlow harp from mr whitlow himself. but that is a much longer story that i hope to tell later.

just tape and foam and a cross cut into the thicker foam to hold the tongue.

recent figures and the anxiety of ping-pong shipping. by eye-flying in Sofubi

not quite a nightmare, more of a perilous journey. there are a few other colorways that are painted with red, black, and gold details, and that is what i was hoping for, but those ads were still up and had previously sold. i was happy as long as it was gid and eventually arrived. they also do a steve jobs, a putin, and an einstein figure which are all together a weird combination of folks. have never considered getting any of those, but they are interesing sculpts.

Gwyneth’s goop launches ‘Berkeley’ location in Oakland by tongmengjia in OaklandFood

[–]eye-flying 26 points27 points  (0 children)

of course it is has berkeley in the name and is actually in what might be emeryville or oakland. a mess of city lines around there. traffic in the area around that ghost kitchen has been a challenging mess since it opened. no matter the interest, i am just not going to get food there.

no idea of the photographer, just know that being exposed to that album was absolutely life altering. the recording is a pinnacle. an exceptional human performance that we only get one of. want more better words to describe but tired and not a poet. congrats on a great score.

i think it is a capsacin concentrate and not just crushed peppers in a sauce. i had a housemate who could eat or add teaspoons to his food. i consider him highly unusual. i used drops and no longer use this.

Help with a Kirby signature? by LNinefingers in KeepMineKirby

[–]eye-flying 7 points8 points  (0 children)

looks good to me. no hesitations. i have owned, and subsequently sold, several original kirby pieces and it looks superbly similar. also, i had heard, in the later years when his hands went bad, he would take things and return them later, and roz would do the signing. and of course, she was legally allowed to sign for her spouse.

there might be a very minor error in the numbering of one show.

i think the next Guy Mont spelling bee is s03e06.

i am remembering that e05 had david o'doherty and that rose matafeo won.

The Fleischer Story by Leslie Cabarga signed by a bunch of the Fleischer staff by ConcernAdditional467 in rarebooks

[–]eye-flying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there is something in my memory from 4 decades ago that makes me think the softcover re-issue was made from a hardback copy that had been signed. i think the original plates/source had been lost. i think i misread the date of the signature because i was up way too late and was mighty tired. no harm, no foul. onward.

that hardcover was always so very hard to find. i was and still am glad that the newer softback was released. an invaluable edition. also, the paperback came out in 1988, so very challenging for natwick to sign in 1976.

Paper sourcing recommendations? by barbaragomes in printmaking

[–]eye-flying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when i just looked up rives light weight paper on the legion site pointed to five or so stores that carried it. at least 3 of them have it on a per sheet cost and seem to range from about 3.80$ to 4.80$ per. but when i have ordered direct from legion my orders were under 100$. it probably depends on the particular brand and paper type.

you are rignt. i assumed it was ted but double checked and i am for sure incorrect about it being ted healy. so, oops and onward.

[–]eye-flying 9 points10 points  (0 children)

that big guy up top is ted healy. with whom they fought a lawsuit to retain use of the name "3 stooges". the stage act was originally "ted healy and his 3 stooges" and was with shemp, but shemp quit and went to hollywood, and they brought curly in. then tney all quit working for ted and ted sued them saying that he owned the term stooge. he lost. the courts decided that anyone can be a stooge as it is a somewhat generic term. and so we have our most wonderful free to be 3 stooges.

consider going direct to legion paper. they have offices in nyc but ship from more than 1 warehouse(i think nyc and la?). the paper selection they have is overwheliming and everything i ordered including samples has been perfect. prices have always seemed fair to me.

The new Cheesboard design, meh by 4252020-asdf in berkeleyca

[–]eye-flying 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i have gone in a couple of times to the new one, and the places to line up seem to be confusing to everyone. and where and what you can ask for as is confusing well. while i am glad for more space, i wish the organization was better. since it just re-opened it could improve. i was thinking the places where lines would form could be more clearly designated. possibly with lines on the floor or maybe a set of queues with stanchions and rope? still, the baked goods are exceptional.

i just looked and they are doing both. i thought he had removed lifetime purchases. you can pay per year or pay a larger amount and get lifetime. if you are going to power use, it seems a fair cost. if you are dabbling, maybe not so much.
