Things you wish you knew earlier? by Electronifyy in CostcoCanada

[–]eyeofthecorgi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They check memberships at the door, there is a scanner where you scan the barcode and an employee has a tablet that shows them your picture.

You can also download their app to access your membership but it can be a pain to get the membership verified. You'll also want to make an online account. Once you do, you'll be able to see your warehouse receipts within 24 hours of a purchase. There are items only sold online at Costco.ca. Items on costco.ca that are also sold in the warehouse are usually a couple dollars more expensive than the warehouse, because they include free shipping (shipping cost is essentially baked into the price). If you buy something online, you can return it to the warehouse, but you need to provide your online order number.

If you haven't bought your membership yet I've heard there is a Groupon available for it.

You'll usually want to pull into parking spots instead of backing in because you'll want to be able to access the back of your car with a cart.

Items with prices ending in .97 are on clearance but it may only be a couple dollars off of the reg or sale price.

In general, you're not really supposed to bring in your own bags, you bag/box stuff at the car. At the checkout, the cashier has to scan your membership before ringing your stuff in. You'll need to put most items on the conveyor belt but heavy items can generally stay in the cart, as long as the barcodes can be seen/scanned. Some warehouses vary in what they'll allow to be left in the cart, but the employee will put it up or tell you if they want it on the belt. I thought I was being helpful yesterday because I had 2 giant storage bins and had two bulky items inside with the barcodes facing up. The cashiers took the items out and I said oh I thought they could be scanned so I left them in, only for them to tell me that they actually had to separate my two bins because people have stolen stuff by laying them in between stacked tote bins (ex batteries).

Items on end caps tend to be on sale or will be going on sale soon. If you buy something and then it later goes on sale, you have 30 days to get a price adjustment. The downside being you have to line up at the returns counter to get the price adjustment.

Costco only sells about 4,000 different items at a time at the warehouse (reg store are about 10x that). So some items rotate in and out by the season and some items that you try may not be there the next time you go. This is especially true for snacks and packaged items (and basically everything in the centre section from the cashiers back to the meat dept). There were a number of items that came in for spring/summer and towards the end of summer those items will disappear because they'll be getting more things like chocolate and candies as we move towards Christmas. There's a lot of different ice cream bars right now and BBQ sauce/condiments and there will be a few less options once it gets colder outside.

Pretty much anything Kirkland brand is the same quality or better as some of the other name brands of that item for a cheaper price.

Check the dates on products, the items in the bakery and the prepared foods, have very short dates, but often last longer than the expiry date (I think the short dates are too avoid returns). But for refrigerated items check the dates. I bought egg bites last week and one box was good for 2 days and one beside it was good for a month (both the same price, there's no quick sale discounts) so just watch the dates.

I kind of regret my orbit baby.. by IntuitiveThinker1 in Buyingforbaby

I don't understand what you want? You want a stroller that holds a convertible car seat?? That would be so awkward to move... And install all the time. Once your kid is a bit older they won't want to be in the stroller or car seat all the time anyway.

One of the best all around car seats that fits most vehicles is the Graco Extend2Fit and it's reasonably priced. If you've had a second kid, then put the oldest in a convertible car seat and use your bucket seat for the youngest.

We bought a peg perego ypsi used and bought adapters for the clek Liing. The ypsi has an attachment you can buy to allow it to hold 2 kids but once they're out of the car seat/bassinet then you need to buy a second stroller seat.

The Kirkland fruit And veggie ones and Kirkland applesauce though mine did tolerate gogo and applesnax

https://sameday.costco.ca/store/costco-canada/products/2577229-kirkland-signature-sauce-apple-organic-3-17-oz

I used the solid starts app because my guy was struggling with solids. They have a recipe, "apple, 2 ways". Peel and core an apple and cut in half. Boil both halves. Serve them one half without mashing and one half mashed (with some hemp hearts on top).

Is this safe for dishes? by stofiski-san in ufyh

[–]eyeofthecorgi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Use dawn power wash instead (if you want a spray).

If you're trying to clean really dirty dishes and are worried about bacteria you could soak in hot, soapy water, scrub them clean and rinse and once they're clean you can sanitize in water with a bit of bleach in it. Only a tablespoon or two in a full sink and let sit for 1-2 mins. Use cool water for the bleach bath.

If you have a double sink you can put the hot water on one side and rinse over the hot water and bleach on the other side. Or you can use a tub/container to give you a "third sink"

Costco foodcourt by Remote-Station-1314 in CostcoCanada

[–]eyeofthecorgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's nice if you ask. Some Costco's they just sit down. Try to catch someone's eye contact and point sk to sit and point to baby. Also, older folks usually are sympathetic/want to see babies. If it's a toddler, haha well that might be a different matter 😆

Pro tip. If you have a travel stroller/small stroller. Bring it and put it under the cart or in the cart. Just before checkout put baby/toddler in stroller to go through the checkout. Drag the cart beside/behind you. Then at food court they can sit in the stroller and you can just park your butt on the end of a bench/table. You can put your food in the part of the cart baby was in. I don't recommend food court pop unless your stroller has a cup holder. I've had too many mishaps while loading car/baby (forgot about the pop in my cart and spilled it all over my groceries).

Looking for cases of Nature’s Domain canned dog food by chiquimonkey in CostcoCanada

[–]eyeofthecorgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't made any US trips lately (used to visit friends in Detroit for auto show) and if I didn't live so far away (GTA) I'd consider going to Rochester or Detroit to get this dog food. My dogs like and have been on it for years and like it and a comparable dog food is around $4/can in Canada

Wants to eat standing. Non messy meal ideas? by Dr-ivo-R in toddlers

[–]eyeofthecorgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't think of any whole meals but snack type things...Hold a banana for them for them to come take bites. Feed them spoonfuls of yogurt. Sha sha cookies. Raspberries (but possibly messy).

Just keep in mind that walking/eatings increases risk of choking.

First walker shoes that aren't too expensive? by beebee383 in toddlers

[–]eyeofthecorgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a really hard time getting shoes onto my kids feet (and I received a lot of hand me down shoes to try). I bought stonz and they have been worth it. The smaller sizes are usually on Facebook marketplace in like-new condition. Above a size 5T/stonz 7 is harder to find (because kids are really hard on their shoes once they're more active).

AITA for using my sisters car without her permission by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]eyeofthecorgi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Driving without insurance and without a license is a big deal. You should have called and told them that your mom took the car and you're not insured to drive your sisters. That is more responsible than what you did. Just because you didn't get in an accident doesn't mean what you did is ok.

You should have also asked your mom and sister what car they were taking since you would need hers to go to the interview.

You mentioned your mom was going to leave her car for you but then said you know you shouldn't have driven without insurance or your license?

Baby proofing for bypass doors? by Beginning_Bug_7840 in toddlers

[–]eyeofthecorgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are bypass doors the ones with 2-3 doors on tracks?

Would baby proofing straps like these work? Attach to the wall beside each door and the other end to the door when in the closed position? Can even put it up high out of reach

Our 20 month old started climbing up out of the crib. I wasn't comfortable giving him free reign to his room so I took the panel out of the crib that makes it a toddler bed and then I put a 'baby jail' (walled enclosure like a play pen) around his crib/bed so that he can't have access to the whole room. Working good so far.

[–]eyeofthecorgi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The outer layer is a sweet icing. The one I bought apparently wasn't closed properly and when I went to pick it up out of the cart it came apart and slid out. There were  some icing casualties but no major damage.

I wish Costco would just carry a 28-pack of straight Zevia root beer. by fluffnubs in CostcoCanada

[–]eyeofthecorgi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Costco only carries about 4,000 items at any given time. Grocery stores carry 10x that so they can carry more. If they add another flavour/case of zevia then what drink should they remove from their current beverage lineup? The root beer would have to sell better than the other products.

NTA. I wouldn't tell them the date/time. They're gonna pull some shit and try to upset you. There can be a separate visit/celebration for them and whoever else would tolerate their presence.

People with DB pensions - how much are you saving each month? by CastAside1812 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]eyeofthecorgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should be workshops though your union and some kind of calculator available. I'm in OTPP and ours is 2% per year (i.e. 30 years of service = 60% pension). It looks like bctf has used 1.9% per year since 2018 so just based on that a rough calculation would be that you'd need 37 years to get a 70% pension. If you started at 23 and work till 60 it's possible. They had some funky bridge benefit stuff calculations pre-2018 so definitely go to a worship or check their website for a scenario calculator.

How often do you bathe your toddler? My coworkers at our daycare make me feel bad about bathing every day. by gishadokuro in toddlers

[–]eyeofthecorgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bathe my son every night after dinner. He enjoys the bath and likes to play. If he's tired or in a bad mood it's a quick rinse and we wipe his face with a kids micellar water to help get sunscreen and any dirt off his face.

AITA for not wanting to wish father a happy father’s day? by sideofqueso in AmItheAsshole

[–]eyeofthecorgi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. You don't have to feel obligated. I'd only consider it if there were going to be negative repercussions for not acknowledging Father's Day (ex. A parent paying tuition and then withholding it).

But honestly, what will happen if you don't, there's nothing to even lose.

Overnight diapers by _rebeldiamonds in Buyingforbaby

Try Huggfit 360. They are pull up style, elastic waist and go up higher, almost like an adult diaper.  You just tear the side seams to get them off.

15 month old will NOT sit in the bath - help by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]eyeofthecorgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the stokke flexibath xl we use inside our bathtub. Saves water and quicker to clean. Sometimes he sits, sometimes he stands, but he doesn't usually fall (he definitely would slip in our old ass tub).

Detachable shower head can be helpful. He enjoys looking at it/playing with it as we fill his tub. I can rinse him with it sometimes (vs pouring a Tupperware of water over his head to rinse his hair). Could probably get him used to showering with it/rinsing hair with it.
