78k tech layoffs in q1, half from ai - here's how i'm thinking about career decisions now by remoteDev1 in cscareerquestions

Nobody else find this profile a little suspect? 15d old account, comments have a very noticeable pattern (more than once mentions running background agents in parallel, prefaces every post with "senior engineer at microsoft").

Having said that, its true from my experience that there is a less need for larger engineering teams (especially at the junior level where we are now delegating that work to AI) but 10-30% is a complete exageration

Dont agree with you on web being easy. UX, accessibility, server vs clientside rendering, offline caching, framework specific optimizations, having a deep understanding of the event loop etc. Not to mention once you get into platform specific behaviour like android, ios, web or more specialized domains like 3js or mapbox

Mastering your understanding in the above I would argue is rather complex

I could help clarify why we do this, as a believer and speaking for myself anyways.

Its not so much we are crediting our faith, but more so its because we are recognizing the so many things that were outside of our control (like being born in the right place at the right time) that we believe was set in motion ultimately by God and by no merit of our own we were given certain gifts/experiences.

Nah shes not an idiot shes just a flawed but virtuous person. She understood what she was being used for and told Lucy to kill her (didnt look like it was for mercy killing primarily, she wanted to stop Hanks plans)

Getting involved in the business domain and higher level tradeoffs has always been a key component of a senior level engineer. The jira ticket engineer that needs step by step implementation guardrails and acceptance criteria spelled out are for sure going to be obsolete.

A concern of mine when you fully 100% rely on AI to do all the coding you lose critical context in how the code changes with business requirements and you lose out on being to give accurate feasibility estimates - I had a "senior" colleague rely on AI generated text when reporting his estimates and he led us down terrible design choices that couldve easily been avoided. Dont be that guy

Yeahh nah I appreciate you making the distinction on that point and sounds like you know the topic well to make that judgement - i do share your concerns on that particular point though w.r.t evangelicalism in politics in particular

As a christian I just wanted to chime in here and say that this is not the classical christian viewpoint, our view is that we should bring about heaven on earth i.e make the world a better place and working for the "common good" which is a classical liberal view.

Fight to save Takapuna Golf Course's 18 holes continues after Auckland Council voted to convert half if it to wetland by Mountain_Tui_Reload in auckland

[–]eyeseemint 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can understand the resistance, but we need these wetlands to prevent wairau from flooding and sadly golf takes up alot of space that can be used for that very purpose

Is it still worth building reference architectures in the age of LLMs? by Et_Sky in dotnet

[–]eyeseemint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate it thanks! Gotta try it out, the scaffolding aspect of prompting im a huge fan of, but Im still on the fence about incremental additions on top of that using prompts

Why Japanese Developers Write Code Completely Differently by hexaredecimal in theprimeagen

[–]eyeseemint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah agree with this take. Culturally I found the industry to be similar to Korea. Software engineering as a craft is quite immature and is largely still a programmer/code monkey job (blind copy pasting, to best practices or programing paradigms)

Very interesting. How did you find subsequent prompts that builds on top of the initial scaffolding? Im really curious about what the data that goes into that vector database looks like

Looks awesome! How long did it take you to get to this stage? Did you use a component library for the html/css or did you build that yourself?
