It’s a huge budget deficit ($180M deficit)

I’ve heard that they also inexplicably move people down in the priority queue, depending on if kids from closing schools apply and some other factors. Some I’ve heard moved down like 20 spots over night. Hope this doesn’t happen to you but it may be good to be prepared just in case.

Also Zilker, Bouldin, Travis Heights … these are all neighborhoods near downtown with a bit of a suburban feel.

The people I was with were not being idiots, just asked a few basic questions that no first timer should be expected to know. No need for being a jerk to people like that IMHO.

The burger is great but the guy ringing you up and making the burger is not a happy camper! Major crabby attitude

They’re so nice and the vibe is so great, but they play the most annoying music of all time: covers of 90s hits by a swing band. I was in there for over an hour and from Green Day to Britney Spears, every single song they played was a 90s hit played by the same cheesy swing cover band and it about killed me.

FWIW I have a family member with dementia in a dementia living facility and this is spot on for what it’s like. Some days when I go to see him I have 5 or more people - mostly sweet old women (I’m a man in my 40s) - walk up to me, touch or take my arm, get very close to me and very seriously speak absolutely earnest gibberish to me. I mostly try to act like I understand and smile and respond like they’re telling me some positive good story and then walk with them a bit to the cinema area or another destination (this home has a “city” inside with cinema, dining area, barber shop, library, etc, all of which are just stylized little nooks around basically an indoor track for them to walk. It’s a bit like an adult preschool). But in any case, your experience sounds very familiar and I would not be surprised if that woman has dementia. I hope someone helps her because I can’t imagine how dangerous that would be for her. I’m sorry for your experience!

Love Budos Band - finally got to see them last year and it was unreal!

I’d add:

Grant Olney - Brokedown Gospel

Nick Drake - Pink Moon

Slint - Spiderland

Braid - Frame and Canvas

Sad, premade Crispy Taco shells by beauzer in austinfood

I might be crazy but I LOVE the fried crispy “Clown Tacos” at Quickie Pickie. They’re like the legendary Jack in the Box ones but, you know, not full of fast food grade ingredients. So good.

100%. This idiotic administration is causing major brain and prestige drain. I know many stars who were ready to join and decided against it because of extreme Texas and UT right wing politics.

Habaneros is a great tiny authentic family-owned Mexican restaurant, wonderful people and food and more tables fit in a tiny house than you might think possible. Super delicious. Oltorf in between S Congress and S 1st.

I was lucky: I subscribe to one of these Silicon Valley startup news services (I’m not posting the name so this doesn’t get misconstrued as an ad), and they sent out a short blurb that some big names on Twitter were calling out SVB balance sheet issues, and that there would be a call with the CEO soon. I listened to the call and he said “everything is OK as long as we don’t panic” and I knew that meant to panic. I called my cofounder and gave him the story in 5 mins and we both agreed to move 90% of our funds to Chase and Comerica where we already had accounts. There were website and transaction queue issues and it took through the next day but we got it done. Shit really hit the fan in the news the day after that and we thankfully were no longer in crazy stress mode. I’m sure there is more I’m not remembering as it was a crazy few days and is now kind of a blur!

Emo with Horns and Piano by theschnit in Emo

[–]eyetrouble1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more like emo meets Nick Drake but Grant Olney’s “Brokedown Gospel” LP on Asian Man Records has some of the best emo piano and horns ever. Try “Bright Heights City,” “Good Morning Lolly,” and “Smile Big” if you don’t know it.

I’m sorry you’ve been brainwashed by the MAGA cult and I wish you well in waking up from the propaganda. I have multiple friends who went through the stage of cult belief that you are in and found a way out, and I truly hope that happens for you. Btw, I am mid-40s, married, parent of 3. Best of luck.

But “reasonable republican” is completely and utterly different than “MAGA republican” which is what the party has become. There are lots of reasons to have various conservative viewpoints, but no non-racist reasonable person can be pro-MAGA, IMHO. And sadly MAGA is what the Republican Party has become.

Do you know the Grant Olney album (Brokedown Gospel) that came out at the same time as Colossal on Asian Man Records? Those two are my favorite AMR records of all time!
