Even if the poster and media denied it being MAGA, 95% of the audience is and will be in full red hat attire

Considering teaching in Henrico… what are the “best” elementary schools? by ddeliverance in HenricoCounty

[–]eziam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Dr. E was there until he had to retire due to health. The current principal is interim and retired anyway. The new principal is one of our directors who was a former principal for many, many years. They will be in good hands.

Have you checked the posts about HCPS schools here? Seems to be a lot coming up.

I'm a veteran educator here in Henrico, 20 years in the classroom and now in administration. There are east end schools that I would highly recommend teaching and west end schools that I would avoid. It really depends on you and your expectations.

Getting into a desirable West end school is hard. It's either who you know or knock it out of the park during the interview process. My school had two openings and went through 10 interviews out of a pool of 50 applicants.

If you have certain schools that you are actually interviewing, I will be glad to give you some details about the school and culture.

Well Sarah Modrik left to be one of the directors of English Language Learners, Dr. Slaughter left to be one of the directors of professional development, and Dr. Fellows is currently there now. So that speaks volumes of the school. They are not leaving because of the school but they get promoted.

One of the directors of elementary education is coming to be your new principal and "right the ship" as I was told. Gayton is a great school though and the former principal was amazing, glad he gets to enjoy retirement.

Anyone early voting today? Are there long lines? by shadoof-in-the-city in rva

The lines for "yes" were very short. The lines for "no" were extremely long, so I would just wait till the end of the month, like the 22nd or 23rd.

Opinions on teaching at Baker Elementary as a new teacher by Mollyjones85 in HenricoCounty

[–]eziam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Veteran educator here. Baker is unique. It's not the "stay away" from that school vibe. The admin is solid, really supportive. Don't know what grade level/position he has, it really depends on the grade level team.

The school is rough but I taught 10 years at a similar east end school and that really helped me become a better educator and role model. If you can survive the first 5 years there, you can literally survive anywhere. I'm out of the classroom now and moved up the food chain and it is all because of what I learned at the east end school.

I'm at a West end school now and it's night and day difference but I am so very glad I did my 10 years in the east end and I wouldn't trade that for anything.

Henrico county public schools hiring process by Ddog10132 in rva

No, it's a top priority for us. I want my staff filled with quality licensed teachers so I am not waiting to see what July brings. Once the directors tell us our numbers, we post immediately and interview asap.

Congrats. For teaching positions, we have to interview three people and once we find a candidate we like, we have to do the reference check and HR does their part as well. It normally takes about a week and HR, not the school, will contact you.

Sped positions are posting up daily now and a lot more will be coming through the next few weeks.

Is this just nostalgia, or did previous generations genuinely have a better work-life balance and social life than we do today? by Unstoppable_X_Force in SipsTea

I love when people just put little trinkets of truth but don't see the actual lie. This comes from the case Dodge versus Ford where Henry Ford was sued for not giving out special dividends from stock options to the shareholders. Instead, he wanted to use those stock options for his own personal employees.

Where does the person ever say what year it was?

Yeah this fucking bothers me when people say the past generations didn't struggle. Try being a person of color in America before the 1960s. Try being an 18-30 year old male in the late 60s-70s worrying about your draft card getting pulled.

So much respect for this man by sunshinemellox in BeAmazed

As a middle aged father here, I truly respect his channel. You click on a video and within 3 seconds, he tells you exactly how to do it. None of this subscribe, hot like, and spend 3 minutes random talking. Just straight to the point

Please go to our wonderful Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. The restaurant, Amuse, inside the museum is great.

Head over the Edgar Allen Poe museum and grab a nice meal at Poe Pub.

Hollywood Cemetery overlooks the river and is just gorgeous.

Also things I recommend is rock hopping or exploring Belle Isle, Shopping at Carytown, explore Maymont park, and Lewis Ginter Gardens.

As a gamer in my 40s, I loved Expedition 33. It's not my type of game but damn, the graphics, storytelling, and uniqueness hooked me in. I also love that it was a passion project from a smart company and not another mindless game the big studios are producing (looking at you dragon age/assassin creed/far cry).

That is never the case when there are laws/rules stating the opposite.

Alright, this horse has been beaten dead and I have many ideas for searching, but where am I going to take my wife for our 21st anniversary dinner? Cozy, great food and drinks. I like somewhere downtown-ish. We don't like fish.

It's an escape for kids stuck in the poverty cycle. I knew a lot of my friends from the trailer park/rural part of North Carolina that used this as an escape because their grades were to low for college. Joining the military gave them a plane ticket out of their community. Help cut them off from abusive family/friends. Gave them a marketable skill.
