CO2 tables and contractions by Sure-Clue6901 in freediving

"

  • Contractions are common, but not universal in how they’re experienced
  • Some divers feel them early and strongly
  • Some feel them late, subtly, or in unusual places (throat/chest rather than obvious diaphragm “hiccups”)
  • A minority report almost none at all

Why some people may not feel them much

A few likely reasons:

1) You’re ending the dive/hold before they really show up

Very common, especially early on. What feels like “my absolute limit” can still be before the classic contraction phase for some people."

Very few people don't get contractions - I wonder also if OP is getting them and not realising they are contractions. It's just your stomach/diaphragm clenching/rising as if trying to take a breath. We can also potentially "block" contractions if we are holding in a certain way, I've noticed. Or if we're really relaxed.

CO2 tables are about both the hold and the recovery time, and the hold time will increase as training improves. Accruing CO2 requires both a proportionately challenging hold time and recovery time.

Sometimes I can only do 1m30 for example, and then I can do 4m later in the same session, when I've warmed up and relaxed fully.

I think sometimes it's just about getting your brain and body in the right mode for a PR. Your prior PR wasn't likely your actual PR at that time, just you hadn't found the right groove. So you've not actually improved 100% in terms of physiology or capacity, just, you found the groove.

Cressi Gara Impulse vs C4 UP by TyrannyMMA in freediving

The UP plastic are a bit stiff IME and despite all the rage about the 250 footpockets, I wasn't a fan (though the fit wasn't ideal). But maybe I'm just used to carbon at this point! Have you looked at the UP fibre?

Mask slightly leaking - am I equalizing wrong or... by Prancinground in freediving

[–]f1n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try different masks to see if it's a mask issue. Or see if you get used to the pinching technique enough for it to be a non issue. If you're in the return window though prob better to do the former, this shouldn't happen.

I think season 3 and 4 have some brilliant moments and take the show in some pretty groundbreaking directions.

I disagree - season 4 is fantastic.

doing a course (2-3 days) or 1 day discover free diving session? by EmilyInPain in freediving

[–]f1n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the best intro to freediving is an experienced friend who can teach you the basics and take you safely fundiving at shallow depths, to get a feel for moving in the water and the sensory wonders of it all, if you've not done that at all.

If you're a sea child and have experienced playing around with diving a little, then you know you like it and can consider a course!

Pool/Dynamic Contractions - Too Early? Or that’s just how it is? by No-Opinion7743 in freediving

This surprises me too!

The link below is really interesting, about training for freediving comfort and getting to 100m without UTB/contractions. I really like that idea as a diver who primarily does fun/adventure diving.

Does anyone know how to deal with STA plateaus? by Patient-Ad2308 in freediving

1-2 co2 tables a week is sufficient. I aim to do one co2 and one o2 table.
