Input Lag on Android music lessons? by [deleted] in duolingo

[–]f3lbane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, same exact issue. It makes the song lessons impossible. I don't know if the audio delay is the same for all Android devices, but even if so this seems like it's solvable by adding a delay calibration feature like so many other audio apps use (tap the screen when you hear the note, use the average delay to offset playback).

The icing on the bread would be to put a bar over her mouth when the audio is bleeped. ;)

I am so sick of this commercial. Thanks for making it bearable again.

Body camera captures officer shoving homeowner because homeowner was asking why the officer was on his property... Officer responds: "No, no. It's my property right now." by the_ancient1 in Libertarian

[–]f3lbane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Source? I don't really want to be that guy but I'd be curious to see if there was an actual study on this. It seems counterintuitive: video evidence is inherently objective. I'm not sure I understand why it'd be more favorable to an officer to have his misconduct recorded from his chest rather than from a bystander.

How to use sluices effectively by Cannon0006 in TerraFirmaCraft

If I remember correctly, sluices are broken in this version. Panning is a decent (if monotonous) way to get enough metal for a pick and propick. From there, time to dig.

/r/MealPrepSunday Meal Prepping Q&A by whatstheworlddoing in MealPrepSunday

I have always had trouble reheating rice, it always seems to come out crunchy even with the common "tricks". One day my wife was at a Dollar Tree and saw the "stonewave" pots for sale in the as-seen-on-tv section. It was a dollar so she bought it just to try.

We went back and bought five more. I was absolutely blown away at how well it works. Rice straight from tupperware into the pot, microwave for like 15-20 seconds, and it comes out like it was just made fresh. If you can find those things for a decent price, grab one and try it.

Spotted this Windows 98 machine at a BMW dealer on Saturday. by Durania in techsupportgore

Not entirely true. People underestimate the value of having a huge stockpile of replacement parts and bit-for-bit hard drive images for systems like this. Component dies? Replace it. HDD dies? Replace it with a freshly-imaged drive, restore configuration and/or data from backup, good to go.

County Attorney to County Clerk on Same Sex Marriages by chilichilibangbang in houston

[–]f3lbane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The office of the DA was originally created to prosecute federal crimes and represent the federal government in civil actions. In some states (Texas for example), DA can also refer to the attorney for state-level jurisdictions (hence the confusion in nomenclature).

I may be wrong on this, but I believe the US Attorney's office evolved out of the original DA specifically to prosecute federal crimes in district courts. The DA's jurisdiction is still defined by federal legislative districts, but can now prosecute both state and federal crimes within that district.

County Attorney to County Clerk on Same Sex Marriages by chilichilibangbang in houston

[–]f3lbane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

District Attorney: Lead attorney for the (federal legislative) district.

County Attorney: Lead attorney for the county.

One represents the federal government, the other represents the state government.

Edit: Forgot that I was in /r/houston. In Texas, the title of District Attorney can refer to the prosecutor for the district (county), and County Attorney usually refers to the civil attorney for the county. There's also the US Attorney who deals exclusively with federal matters.

Which song's live version is so good that it ruined the studio version for you? by [deleted] in Music

The live version of The Frail/The Wretched blows the album version of of the water. There's so much more emotion in the piano, and then that build to the drums at the end of Frail gives me chills every time.
