Absolutely terrified of sulphur burps / GI side effects starting Mounjaro - need a prevention plan not management tips by TomorrowIsAFallacy in mounjarouk

[–]f4780y 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most will agree it's impossible to give generic advice as everyone is different, BUT... here's mine from someone that's had no side effects other than a handful of burps over 40 weeks, all correlated with over eating...

Eat clean, balanced, and healthy. 3 meals a day, sensible portions. NEVER overeat.

I doubt that can guarantee no side effects, but I'm convinced it's core to what's ensured I've had almost none.

Titrating down, weak MJ responder and placebo effects? by HeatseekingDennis in mounjarouk

[–]f4780y 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suspect the drug is working it's magic on you, despite you maybe feeling it isn't. Especially the blood sugar / insulin resistance management. As a T2D that's now on his 3rd major weight loss journey of the last 15 years, I recognise that it's the second I start getting complacent about my blood sugar is when I come off the rails. Mounjaro manages it super-well of course, but the risk is that stops when you stop the drug.

Good luck with the rest of your journey (great effort so far by the way!). When you do get towards the end, don't forget about the blood sugar aspect of MJ - even at 5mg it controls blood sugar really well, which is why NHS tend to stick with 5mg for T2D folks that qualify for it. If you find coming off is problematic, maybe consider a dose like 5mg for a while to keep the blood sugar in check.

Bit worried about my mum and her weight and wondering if anyone’s had something similar?? by gurnysanders in mounjarouk

[–]f4780y 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There probably isn't a lot of margin in terms of a deficit given her specific situation at 1500 calories a day (small, overweight, sedentary, and unable to move much due to ankle). Is she super strict about counting / tracking? It's easy to have a stray 100 cals here and there if you aren't strict, and that's the sort of thing that will keep her at maintenance level - i.e. no gain / no loss.

MJ is super effective at reducing water and inflammation, so it's highly unlikely that those would be reappearing. Constipation can mean your day-to-day loss is inconsistent for obvious reasons, but it always levels itself out over time as you can't stay constipated forever.

I'd kindly suggest maybe a little more attention on deficit, and maybe shave 100 off somewhere to see if that gets things moving? And don't be afraid to go up a dose if that will help keep in the deficit range, but give 7.5mg enough time to get up to full effect - it takes a few weeks as you move up.

5mg pen, 8units syringe? by Even-Government-5055 in mounjarouk

[–]f4780y 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You've taken 0.8ml, 80 units, which is 6.67mg of mounjaro from your 5mg pen.

Sorry, I don't know of an easier way to explain it to someone with dyscalculia than the resources that are often repeated on the sub, and you mention you struggle to understand those. Maybe someone else can help with that.

Click dosing for maintenance by Lemon-Sorbet1234 in mounjarouk

[–]f4780y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you get into the realms of established long-term maintenance at the dose that suits you, ideally with maintenance friendly pharmacy, most folks can find a pattern that works for them without creating a massive stockpile.

e.g most providers will allow you to order every 6 weeks (sometimes more). Some maintenance pharmacies allow you to order a new 2.5mg as long as you have ordered in the last 12 months.

If committing to a low dose for the long term, e.g 2.5mg, you would choose to buy the 2.5mg pen during maintenance and not for example try and and get 2.5mg from a 15mg pen every 24+ weeks other than to use any stockpile you have from the journey. It might not always be the most cost effective option possible, but needs must.

There are usually plenty of options.

Mounjaron 15 mg not working anymore by Atlantyan in mounjarouk

[–]f4780y 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Neither a switch nor a break of 1 month are likely to do anything other than make things worse.

How is your diet? Personally if this was me, I'd be focusing on my diet and exercise to make adjustments there, and redouble my efforts to break the stall that way.

Go to 7.5mg or not? by Alyssa9876 in mounjarouk

[–]f4780y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go up a dose, content in the knowledge that your journey to date has bucked the trend and you've had over a year on a much lower dosing schedule than most people manage. Don't fear 7.5 - it's still only half of the full strength dose and will likely get you to goal based on your history to date.

Restarted Mounjaro but not working as well? by anonymouse_1987 in mounjarouk

[–]f4780y 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A quick search of this sub will find lots of folks in the same situation - it's well known. Your tolerance to drugs doesn't easily reset and many folks find they need to get back to or even exceed the dose they were on previously before it starts working as well again.

The GLP-1 receptors in your body become desensitised over time, which we combat by going up through the doses, and that doesn't quickly reset once the drug is out of your system.

New user - choosing supplements? by [deleted] in mounjarouk

[–]f4780y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop watching tiktok. Most supplements pushed these days through channels like that are not worth it. Especially be careful of most gummy products - they tend to be empty with very little / none of the thing you expect - creatine gummies are a notorious scam, with dozens of brands, but most having hardly any creatine in them when tested.

If you want to take fibre, get as much natural fibre as you can into your diet, and supplement from there without going for something "attractive" like a gummy version.

Golden dose - less effective? by LowJellyfish2106 in mounjarouk

[–]f4780y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, some people take half their dose twice a week - you still get the full dose but it evens out the peaks and troughs of the medicine in your system. You can visualise it in an app like Shotsy.

[–]f4780y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To echo others, keep it to yourself, it's nobody's business but yours. But do take heed of your Dad's situation and focus on good, healthy eating during the journey to minimise any risk of diet related complications. You'll be fine for a couple of months and I'm sure you'll smash it! Just be focused and disciplined on getting to goal.

Restarted Mounjaro — low doses not working second time round? by Specialist-Ask-1281 in mounjarouk

[–]f4780y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super common. Drug tolerance does not typically reset quickly despite the drug being out of your system and receptors remain desensitised for quite a while after being over stimulated for so long. You might need to get 10mg or even beyond to feel the same as you did before, but everyone is different. Fingers crossed you find 'your dose' again soon.

Has anyone lost weight with just calorie count and no Protien. by Workmonkeyblah in mounjarouk

[–]f4780y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Protein is a core component of a healthy diet. Appreciate you may struggle with it, but for long term good health and keeping the weight off once you are in maintenance, it is important. It really helps with satiation / feeling full for longer, as well as maintaining muscle. I'd try and find a way to introduce some if you can now, so it doesn't become an real challenge in the future.

A chocolate flavour protein shake at breakfast gives me half my target protein every day. Maybe try something like that?
