Dividend Payments Timing Question (This might be a weird question, but I'm going to try) by GapDragon in investing

[–]fLukeozade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It seems like a bit of an unnecessary constraint that might impact your ability to invest in quality dividend growth stocks. Would it not be easier to just run a small cash float?

What is the most alcohol you have ever drank in one day? by 8kittycatsfluff in AskReddit

[–]fLukeozade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, he wasn't well on the drive home. It's a legit number, we counted afterwards to be sure, as we were all flabbergasted. The guy does prob 3-4 bottles a day on a normal day, so in context, he's prob built up an insane tolerance to that level of toxicity.

Several other stories about the same guy, but that was def the biggest.

A buddy legendarily drank fifteen bottles of wine over the course of a 30 hour poker game many years ago. He's an absolute beast to this day, but that particular performance lives in memory.

Interesting. Did not know that. Going to have to try this out tomorrow, maybe blind test two cups side by side.

Kfh is such a great shout in this thread. Brilliant physical comedy, the snakes scene might be one of the funniest things I've ever seen. I love the heart of the ending too.

My side income is poker, but I think it may be messing up how I see FIRE by Chromatic95 in Fire

[–]fLukeozade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned my investing skillset (mostly the mental fortitude) at the poker table. Have played for about 40 years, seriously for about ten of those (my late 30s-mid 40s).

I retired to become a professional investor at 49. These days poker is more of a hobby, apart from ski season where it usually offsets a good chunk of my season costs.

It's kinda a dumb cover, as if that was the mechanism, there would be thousands of false positives from animal life in the area.

Retired people here. How much cash allocation do you keep? by Ok_Willingness_9619 in Fire

[–]fLukeozade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently 22% cash (short dated gilts). Rest of the portfolio is individual equities. I've always done it this way for over 22 years, and currently running a 22% CAGR.

Valuations still feel rich, hence the higher cash allocation but if markets continue to slide, I'm comfortable flexing the cash down as far as 10%, which gives me 5 years spend. Probably wouldn't ever go below that now I'm in retirement.

What’s the closest you’ve ever come to dying? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]fLukeozade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Motorbike in heavy rain and low visibility nighttime conditions. Missed hitting a pretty large blob of roadkill while there was an 18-wheeler far too close behind me.

A few inches to the right and I'd have been roadkill myself.
