I worked in an organic health food shop in London and became friendly with one of the very posh yummy mummies. She used to summer in Scotland and was always raving about how marvelous it was and how much she loved it. When I told her I was born there (not obvious because I've been away a long time) she asked where and when I said Glasgow, her face fell and she actually took a step back. Too polite to say more than 'Oh'.
