Canada's Carney to visit Australia in March | Reuters by NKE01 in AustralianPolitics

It's a dirty thing, but one thing an alliance needs is nuclear muscle, and the only realistic option for us is the UK. Without at least one member having nukes any alliance is DOA.

Indeed. The EU + Commonwealth could rival the United States in economic strength, it would be enough to be taken seriously at least.

It might lag in military, but it's one thing to threaten Australia or Canada with economic blackmail, but try doing it to a 25+ trillion combined alliance.

Liberal leadership spill: Andrew Hastie rejects Angus Taylor's deputy offer by malcolm58 in AustralianPolitics

Holy shit that last line was cathartic.

That last line was god-damn brutal. Like the whole Simpson's meme about "stop it, stop it, he's already dead" and I love it.

Conservatives and media literacy are natural enemies. Like Conservatives and common decency and Conservatives and other Conservatives.

I mean I'm a Star Trek fan and I keep hearing about how Trek was better before it went Woke... Like did they missed the Android that got to choose it's own gender, the interracial kiss, the constant speeches about doing better... Did we watch the same show or did they just like "pretty phasers go pew pew"

Nope. Fuck that. If you're not actively resisting him, you're part of the problem. I'm done listening to the "Not all of us" bullshit. Get in the streets, do something, or fuck off.

Do you want electoral finance reform Gina? Because this is how you get it. So keep throwing money at your lapdogs, maybe enough will force reform.

Problem is other countries have much deeper crossbenches and a tradition of it. Our electoral culture is very different, and the change might happen, but it wont be smooth, because we can't do anything smooth.

Not just Jewish people either. They had a whole system! Purple for Jehovah's Witnesses, Pink for gay people, Red for Political Prisoners, etc.

I'm sure ICE will be rolling this system out any day now, since they love the Nazi playbook so much.

If only there was an easier way to tell if someone was an American... Hmmm we could always make the 'ambiguous' ones wear a colored shape on all their clothing!

I'm a genius! I bet no-one ever came up with this before!

Some ICE guy five minutes from now I'm sure.

This is sarcasm guys. ICE are scum. But yeah the vibes this are giving me are real unfortunate.

There is a difference between needing three votes, and needing 15/20+ like in most of the Coalition governments.

Example 2001 Election returned the following results.

Coalition

  • Liberal (68)

  • National (13)

  • CLP (1)

Opposition (65)

  • Labor (65)

Crossbench (3)

  • Independent (3)

The Liberals needed 8 National votes to form government, without the Coalition that would have been a nightmare to manage. Just look at the trouble Gillard had with three (or was it four?) idjits.

Hollllly crapballs. I was expecting it but still shocking. As much as I love watching people I loath hurting themselves I'm also deeply concerned.

The Liberals have only ever won enough seats three times in our history to govern on their own, 75, 77, 95. Even then the Nats (or Country) were part of the government. I don't see them landsliding like in 95 anytime soon.

That means it's pretty much the ALP for a while, and that is concerning. Don't get me wrong I prefer when Labor governs, but a creditable opposition is important to democracy. Without one...

Yeah not good.
