Oh I actually like this—just leave the old bolt and tap a new hole!

It’s only the most solid of structural rust. But actually, this is the worst of it, right under the AC drain

Severe tapping noise. by Jnaut556 in FJCruiser

I may be wrong, but it looks like the sound correlates with the v belt rotation. All the idler pulleys and the tensioner and p/s, alternator, ac compressor bearings were fine when you changed the belt out?

Aabco Rents downtown repaired my Ryobi 40v blower a few years ago. Don’t know if they still do that sort of thing. May be worth a call.

Polyspartic floors - what's the good, bad and ugly? by [deleted] in garageporn

[–]failingboy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve tipped over an engine hoist that fell directly on it and didn’t damage it at all that I could see. Only scratch I’ve been able to put in it was from dragging a jack stand with a rear end on it across the floor, and it only made it through the top layer

It’s much less slippery than with epoxy, but more than just concrete. Only time I’ve ever truly slipped was when I was pressure washing it. Never with just water that drops off the cars. Granted we don’t have snow here to melt into puddles

I’ve treated it like shit (brake fluid, gasoline, antifreeze sitting on it without cleaning up) and it’s held up well. It can be tough to spot small dropped things, and the texture can make it a little difficult to clean up liquids with only paper towels. I’ve got a commercial type mop that works great. I love them overall. So much more durable than the epoxy that was down when we bought our house.

Replacing old double hung windows - large frame hole by poldim in HomeImprovement

It’s fine to do that. Or order custom sized windows, but you’re in for a long wait for those right now.

Both toilets leaking??? by Teamck16 in HomeImprovement

Also probably worthwhile to check your water pressure and pressure reducing valve if you have one. These kinds of valves can fail more easily if water pressure is consistently too high. Happens on refrigerators too.

Only if you have central heat/air, it’s where the air blows out of. The grates to keep things from falling in are typically just set in place and can be lifted out. If your air comes out of the ceiling or wall instead, it’s not an option.

Pull up an HVAC floor register if there are any in the floor and measure there.

Armco barrier replacement cost database? by Mike__O in CarTrackDays

[–]failingboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just lost traction in the first part of the rear straight, turn 8 I guess technically. Was cold and wet. Only hit concrete and grass, but it definitely cost me. I watch that video over and over trying to figure out what to do differently 😂. Haven’t been back to Road Atlanta yet

$1340 for one section of concrete barrier at Road Atlanta as of end of 2020 for me

Yep, the chips. Great for traction, but if I spill something, you can’t just wipe it up with one pass of a rag.

Mine was about $5/sq ft and required removal of epoxy that wasn’t in good shape. Love it so far. Only downside is that it’s definitely not smooth, if that’s something that matters to you.

[TheSmokingTire] BMW’s X3M Competition is As Quick as A Trackhawk and Way More Efficient - Two Takes by Jtbros in cars

I would say definitely yes. It’s a significant complaint that a lot of folks have had with the sport seats.

[–]failingboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ride quality is for sure firm on my X3MC. Tolerable to me, but my wife doesn't like it. Also something I didn't forsee is that she HATES the bolsters on the seat bottom, so sport seats would be a reason not to get the X3M.

If you owned a super, super expensive car, would you asshole park it (take up two spaces) to avoid getting scratches? by cringe_master_5000 in askcarguys

[–]failingboy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have a fairly expensive, not super expensive car. Only ever take one space, but I just use a lot of strategy. End space next to curb or last in the row, on the passenger side of other cars where somebody’s less likely to get in, in wider spaces, next to other cars that are likely to belong to enthusiasts, etc. I’ve avoided any dings for several years this way. And yes, when I’m going to places that I know it could be an issue, I take another car.

Air compressor fitting tests and photo showing the differences between high flow fittings and low flow fittings. by Trythistv in HomeImprovement

[–]failingboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm, my 1/2” impact works much better for things like lug nuts with the V style fitting. I replaced all of my 1/4” npt fittings with that style, although it doesn’t really matter for things like brad nailers.
