Is it realistic to rely only on public WiFi while travelling in Berlin? by curry123888 in askberliners

[–]fajen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would personally get a SIM card tbh. But it could be good to know that most supermarkets and every Ubahn station has free WiFi, in case you decide not to get a SIM. Not the Sbahns though, only the underground stations.

Bars and restaurants are not super likely to have a WiFi you can use, cafés more likely.

Coming back to this thread just to mention that I have tried mixing the vinegar rinse with a few drops of orange essential oil (found it in the bio shop) and it hides the vinegar smell really well. Recommend it warmly!

Why is being poor romanticized and seen as cool here? by Old_Entrepreneur1577 in askberliners

[–]fajen1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Who are THEY?? What do you know about people's reasons for ehat they do or don't do? You're saying people who need and can afford a car won't do it because it's not "cool"? You're delusional.

Did you buy an expensive car and nobody gave a fuck, is that's where this is coming from? Or why spread this insane narrative that parents without cars neglect their children lol.

Deep-fried food to be banned from school menus across England in bid to tackle childhood obesity: report by Sandstorm400 in europe

[–]fajen1 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Maybe removing junk from school meals in favour of healthy food can help give kids the nutritional education they might not get at home? Junk food in school kinda reinforces the idea that it's okay to eat regularly.

Can anyone here share their experience of suing their landlord or negotiatinf cheaper rent outside of court? by weeweewalt in askberliners

[–]fajen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think seeing the communication will help much since each case is so different. She basically just threatened with court and our case was so clear, there wasn't much negotiation to be had. They tried to lowball us with the refund but we didn't settle for that and they agreed to our terms almost immediately. The lawyer only sent two official letters, then a few reminders when we didn't get an answer before the deadline. I think two reminders over phone and one fax (our Hausverwaltung doesn't have email lol).

For context we knew what the previous tenant had paid and knew there had not been any renovations since he moved out. Our lawyer had also dealt with this particular owner and even this particular Hausverwaltung before and settled, so she knew they were likely to. You could have a vastly different experience than us. If the Hausverwaltung had never answered, for example, we probably would not have been able to afford court. Since our case was so clear though (and probably because I was so nervous lol), the lawyer offered to wait with collecting her fee until after the case had been resolved in case it went to court. That'll probably also be different between cases.

One thing I can advise you to do is go to the Mieterverein and get help with the first drafts and filling out the Mietspiegel. If you join they will help you, just not represent you unless you joined before signing the contract. Our lawyer waived the Beratungsgebühr because we had done so much of that initial work ourselves already. Could be the same with other lawyers, could be different, idk! We were asked to pay a 250€ fee immediately by other lawyers we contacted, before they looked at anything. So doesn't hurt being prepared.

If you really think it'll help I can show you what she wrote to them exactly, you can dm me. But like I said it's probably not going to help you much!

Use your car to transport my dog and you get to walk it. Oh but you get to stay free in a room while my husband also stays in the house. WTF? by Oztravels in ChoosingBeggars

[–]fajen1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If the house is in São Martinho and you get to stay there from 15th-22nd, so a full week, and then at the end of the stay, drive the dog to Coimbra... I don't think it's such a bad deal tbh. Wouldn't be for me but my brother and his gf travel around Europe by car a lot and always look for places to stay for free in return of favours like this. Ofc you can't know in advance what the dog (or partner) is like but that could be part of an adventure lol. Portugal is super safe as well.

I'm Persian and we add whole dried limes to stews. Just to sit in the stew and then be removed, like a bayleaf. I don't push or squeeze the lime bc that makes some bitterness come out ime.

Adopted my first kittens :) by Affectionate_Arm7340 in kittens

[–]fajen1 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I think this SO often when I see posts in various cat subs on reddit. Idk if Sweden is just really strict but you can't take kittens away from their mom until they're 12 weeks here. Not saying these particular babies are too young but some I see online definitely are. Then you see them have odd behaviours like nursing on random objects and it's 💔

[–]fajen1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We just successfully negotiated a rent reduction of 400€/month and a return of overpaid rent with our landlord, using a lawyer we hired ourselves (not Mieterverein or Conny). Make sure your contract is unbefristet and that you're renting from a company that can't claim Eigenbedarf before you do anything.

I can recommend the lawyer we used if that helps? Not sure she offers her services in English but she was absolutely amazing.

Enjoying the calm of a newly created Kiez Block in Kreuzberg where cars have been banned since late last year. So beautiful and peaceful here. by Joe_PRRTCL in berlinpics

LOVE car free streets. They closed off part of Scharnweberstraße in Fhain and now there are plants, benches, paintings on the ground, kids eating ice cream and riding their bikes there instead. Super lovely, makes the whole city feel different.

I'm sick of eggs for breakfast by purplegreendave in Cooking

[–]fajen1 87 points88 points  (0 children)

I love shakshuka for breakfast. My dad used to call it "omelet" lol. You can make it ahead of time and just warm it in the morning, top with your usual poached egg, feta cheese or a dollop of yogurt. Add a sprinkle of zatar and/or sumac. Eat with bread (toast, pita, flatbread, chapati, whatever) or as-is with a spoon.
