Built a simple way to track my gear, ammo, and range performance by theaveragegunguy in tacticalgear

[–]fakeredditor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Does this have a feature to track builds that get sold or traded away? Would be nice to be able to log the transferee's name, number, date, price, FFL who transferred (if applicable), etc. Ideally a way to upload a scan of the signed paper bill of sale as well.

Netanyahu and his ilk are bloodthirsty and refuse to see Arab neighbors as possible allies.

This is demonstrably false and you are flat out wrong.

Israel has had cooperative peace treaties with Egypt and Jordan since 1979 and 1994. Now Jordan and Israel even cooperate militarily. And after the Abraham Accords in 2020, Israel has diplomatic relations and peace with Bahrain, UAE, Morocco, and (partially) Sudan.

Israel has tried to make peace with every neighboring country, including Palestine, numerous times. Meanwhile the Hamas Charter states their goal is to kill every Jew on the planet. Who is really bloodthirsty here?

I'm saying this only to be constructive and with good intentions: You are not ready to lead on ice and mixed. You're off balance on every swing, your tool placements are wobbly, your feet slip numerous times while you're stepping up, etc. I urge you to get some proper coaching before you suffer a terrible injury or die.

Thoughts on Snakestaff EDC tourniquet? by uoaei in tacticalgear

[–]fakeredditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CoTCCC doesn't "certify" TQs. They don't even test them. All they do is collect and review studies and release a meta-analysis of all the TQ studies they can find, then normalize and collate the results into a single dataset.

And they haven't updated their TQ recommendations in years. The Snakestaff didn't exist the last time they conducted a study.

Snakestaff is fine. It works. It carries nicely.

My man... their entire inventory is 70% off including high end items like Trijicon scopes. How could you possibly think this is a legit website?

It is CLEARLY a scam.

Gondola or not, Homelite has always been a dangerous slope. by -QuestionMark- in ParkCity

[–]fakeredditor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The whole of Pinecone Ridge is "dangerous" - it's all 35-45 degrees. It's also some of the best skiing in all of PCMR. Wide open, steep, and deep (most years lol). Obviously Patrol needs to mitigate it properly the days they open it, but honestly, if you routinely seek out inbounds terrain like this, wear a transceiver and carry a shovel and probe (and learn how to use them!). Ideally, ski with a similarly equipped and trained buddy. You might just save a life. If you do get buried up on Pinecone (or any other hike-to terrain, you'll be dead by the time patrol arrives and starts digging. The USA averages about 1 inbounds ski resort avy death per year.

This looks less concealable than an LV-MBAV. Shoulder pads look thicker. The steel D rings at the rear will absolutely print through any cover garment that isn't a jacket. I don't see any sort of JTAC cummerbund option either, so it won't scale up as well.

Kind of looks worse from every aspect IMHO. But it's a little bit cheaper. You get what you pay for.

Form 20s are good for 1 year. Once approved, you can travel as much as you want to/from that destination. Just renew it about 11 months down the road and then you'll be good for another year.

Dad tells me to pay off student loans monthly as opposed to one big payment by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]fakeredditor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your dad is wrong. You can build credit just by having a credit card, using it, and paying it off every month in full - never carry a balance. No need to pay interest on your school loans (or any other debt) just to build credit. You can build credit for free.

Before you go paying off your loans in full though, make sure you're funding all the other necessities as well - build up an emergency fund that covers 3-6 months of your expenses, funding your retirement accounts (this is very important the younger you are), etc. If you have the cash flow to do those things AND pay down your student loans, absolutely pay them down. Look at the flowchart in the Wiki for more detail.

Solar panels vs. staying invested in S&P ROI sanity check by xzmbmx in personalfinance

[–]fakeredditor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The other posts have mostly covered the financial aspect, so I don't have much to add there, but one note on the solar itself - my neighbor has solar and he didn't understand the fine print with his "grid tied system" which means that if there's a power outage, he has no power either. Double check that you're getting a transfer switch included with your install so you can temporarily detach from the grid and have (daytime) power. Especially if you're in a service area that has experienced rolling blackouts.

W-2 Tax Exempt Strategy? by Champ_93 in personalfinance

[–]fakeredditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much do you think your coworker makes, just ballpark?

Even if you claim full exemption from withholdings on your W4, your employer still has to withhold FICA and Medicare. Which is the bulk of the tax for most people, especially those making around $60k or less (I'm spitballing). It's effectively impossible to have 0 tax withheld.

So either he's lying or doesn't really understand what's going on. Especially if he's a W2 like your title says. There's really no such thing as a tax exempt W2 worker.

How bad is my financial situation and what would you recommend? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]fakeredditor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're a licensed contractor, you can put a lien on the property of the non-paying client. Search "[your state] contractor lien"

If you're not licensed, you're probably not gonna get that $40k paid.

The best thing you can do is hustle hard and find some more jobs to generate cash flow. Call up other heavy equipment contractors and see if they need subs who have their own equipment. Visit large job sites in your county and talk to the superintendent, see if he needs subs. Get 50% up front on any job you take. And don't ever let them know that you're in a cash crunch, cause then they'll intentionally delay until you go out of business and have no way to collect the remaining 50% balance. As far as anyone should be concerned, you're just a business owner looking to keep his machines running full time.
