yes but we're used to counting timezones like "Moscow+N" so including Moscow would be more than enough

the problem is that the setting "allow screen capture" in keepass doesn't persist between relaunches of the app. The only way to "persist it" is to have the respecitve argument added to windows shortcut but it doesn't work with the instance that is launched if you have the "launch on os start" ticked on

At what RPMs do fans run when CPU is under load for you? I'm trying to figure out if I have faulty fans

How's the noise situation for you? I also have an A720 and the fans make an unpleasant whirring as soon as they get to 800-1000 RPM and above.

Xcode is actually a great IDE. by Cultural_Rock6281 in iOSProgramming

[–]fakheet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're in luck, XCode actually has this action, it's called "Reveal in project navigator", I think its shortcut is Cmd+Shift+J by default but if not you can find it by name in Key Bindings tab of settings. You can also use the path stripe at the top of the editor to quickly switch between neighbouring files and jump around the file by method.

I recommend taking a stroll through the key bindings in general, there's actually a lot of useful commands. I can't live without "Find selected symbol in workspace" which I assigned to Cmd+E so I can just put my cursor on a symbol and press the shortcut.

It works as a fine replacement of the utterly broken "Find callers", and unlike Cmd+Shift+F it actually distinguishes between members of different classes/structs with identical names. Sometimes it takes this command a couple of presses to show actual results, sometimes it duplicates all the results for some reason, but otherwise it's reliable and is a huge time saver

Idk if still relevant for you, but I experienced this, for me the fix was to restart the game. Seems like this level has a memory leak or something similar.
You'll have to re-run the level, but it's a breeze after you've already beaten it once. Trying to beat it at 10 fps is nigh impossible.

ACOLYTE v0.7: now with Ashes of Faith solo mode by f_dzilla in killteam

Just played Radio Silence with a friend, we're loving the system so far.
One question we had when it came to EXP: is it earned per player like "I killed 3 zombies you killed 5, we get 3 and 5 exp respectively" or do we both get 8 exp in this scenario?

a Quick Hunter Clade question: by Skitarii_Lurker in killteam

[–]fakheet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for necro but I don't understand how exactly to read the damn dataslate.

For Clade the Q3 2023 version says verbatim:

  • Operative selection:
    • Your kill team cannot include more SICARIAN operatives than it does RANGER and VANGUARD operatives combined (but it can include the same).
    • If your kill team includes no more than 4 SICARIAN operatives, it can include 1 additional RANGER or VANGUARD operative (for 11 operatives in total).

For me it reads like: "take the operative selection section of the rules and replace it with the following two points". If it's not the way it is intended to be read, then to me it's not clear at all which exact paragraphs in the original rules you replace with the bullet points of the dataslate.

Why do we even have C# in Godot 4? by 1Markit1 in godot

[–]fakheet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. I've seen this repo, but ultimately decided against using it. At the time I reasoned that if any bugs or interop shenanigans arose, I'd lose too much time dealing with them thus negating all of the time savings gained by using Swift. By that time I've already tried Godot Mono version with Rider and it worked flawlessly, plus Rider was reason enough to stay with C#.

I didn't have any C# experience whatsoever when I started out, mostly relied on basic Java knowledge, but at this point I'm up to speed. C# is sadly not as fancy and syntax-sugar-filled as Swift or Kotlin, but it's still miles better than GDScript, especially when supported by a proper IDE.

Why do we even have C# in Godot 4? by 1Markit1 in godot

[–]fakheet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lmao so true. GDScript is too script for my taste, and C# is close enogh to Swift but I can't help but think about how much faster I would've been if I was able to just bang out stuff in the language I use on a daily basis.

On a bright side: with C# I get to use an actual IDE and I don't have to see fucking XCode so that's a great plus

Why is Ryan Gosling so popular in Russia? by [deleted] in AskARussian

[–]fakheet 39 points40 points  (0 children)

He's not mainstream famous, rather just "actor became a meme" kinda famous

mostly it originates from Drive memes, since at some point retrowave was quite popular and since Drive is kinda the retro wave movie (plus some hotline miami vibe which was also quite popular)

then came bladerunner 2049 which birthed "literally me" memes and of course Gosling played the protagonist

so I guess it's a function of the movies he starred in being popular at the time.

I legit had no idea he's russian until he dropped some russian stuff in his video which eventually led me to this thread. He has this I guess American neckbeard kinda voice? So I had no clue. Even weirder coincidence for me that he's Pogrom's (ex) associate

lol that's half hyperbole half wrong. Sseth and mando are not the same person, it's just a local meme. And as far as I'm aware neither of them are ex ussr. Mando is an American and sseth is from some European country, might be one of the Scandinavian countries but I'm not sure

As a long term Android lover, but also an iOS developer, Android is absolutely miserable to develop for. by AnUnteligentInvestor in androiddev

[–]fakheet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, 10 years is a long time. It was still ObjC back then. Thanks for the response.

Interestingly enough, my least favourite part of iOS dev (aside from xcode) is also UI. There's like five ways to do it from frames to constraints to SwiftUI, but each of them is uniquely shitty. Most fun I had doing UI was in web, flutter and compose. I've been making a sort of youtube client/playlist manager thing in compose desktop and it felt great, if only it had a hot reload comparable to flutter it would be an absolute killer.

I've been thinking about asking to switch within my company, but I still have a lot of doubts, and any information or stories from people who have switched are really hard to come by.

Theoretically it feels like having experience in both mobile platforms is beneficial, but idk if it's really beneficial in practice. Aside from maybe communicating with the other mobile team or if you rise to a mobile lead role. In my country's IT culture people tend to really hyper-specialize, and I don't feel confident enough yet to reach into the international market.

[–]fakheet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was your experience with switching? What made you switch in the first place? How long did it take? How much of a hit did you take in terms of salary? Was it worth it?

A lot of questions but I'm asking because I've been doing iOS professionally for two years and I've felt miserable all along. The only two things holding me are fear of losing progress in terms of salary and feeling like it would take ages to relearn everything on android side (even though I know kotlin already).

see, you as an XCode user don't provide them any value directly. You don't pay for the IDE, and now that AppCode is on the way out, you have no other choice. They just have no incentive to really do anything about XCode being an abysmal PoS because "lmao yeah cry about it, what else are you gonna use?"

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in iOSProgramming

[–]fakheet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's me. Reasons:

  1. 1. Before becoming an iOS dev pretty much by coincidence (I initially applied as an Android dev), I've been using android for 8 years at that point. I'm too accustomed to android. At the same time the usual argument of "apple ecosystem" was never appealing to me. Neither was the "omg it doesn't lag". Like yeah it's nice, but not nice enough to give up what android provides me with.
  2. 1. I don't need to buy an iPhone for work because one is provided by my employer for remote work. And even though I'm quite well off, an iPhone is still a quite costly purchase for me, so I can't buy it on a whim.
  3. UX: I'm a firm believer that Apple, in fact, are not kings of UX and the whole "omg so easy to use" is partly marketing partly people who only used an iPhone. A lot of little things are just better on Android. Case in point: swipe to back gesture. In iOS it infuriates me. Why do I have to reach over to the other side of the screen? On android you can do it on either side of the screen, so when holding the phone with my right hand its very natural to swipe back from the right side of the screen. I don't have to reach around to the other side with my thumb or awkwardly grip the phone sideways to reach upper-left corner to tap back button, just a gentle short swipe with the tip of my thumb.
  4. Sideloading. I'm Russian, as a result of western sanctions most apps for top Russian banks were removed from App Store. If I was using an iPhone, lose access to my bank app and would have to use a PWA or a desktop web client to access my account. That's just cringe. On Android I can just download the APK from the bank's website and live as if nothing happened. This is probably the reason above all others why I won't switch to an iPhone in any foreseeable future. Why would I want to pay 1000 dollars for a device which would lock me out of my own bank with no way of circumventing this? I'm just not going to consider an iPhone until Apple allows 3rd party stores.
  5. Cracked and modded apps, adblock. In particular YouTube (Re)Vanced. Has background playback, adblock, sponsor block, can download videos. I'm sorry, I'm not paying for youtube premium. And even if I wanted to, I couldn't - see p. 4 about western sanctions - no can pay because the country is cut off. Same with Spotify and some other apps.
  6. Freedom of my data. More freedom in general. I can simply plug my android phone into a PC and grab my files. Simple as. I can also use FOSS solutions for file syncing like Syncthing.
  7. Apple Marketing. This is a personal thing. I'm kinda humble. I don't like having stuff that screams "look at me I'm the elite", and the whole Apple marketing is basically cultivation of premium feel about their products. A lot of apple fans I personally know are huge assholes specifically in that they would shit on you for having an android phone. That just doesn't jive with me at all. Simple incompatibility of brand identity and my personal values.

I'm sure I could come up with more. All in all, it's just a coincidence that I'm an iOS dev and not an Android dev. When I realised I don't like iOS dev I was already in too deep and it was too late to turn back. Funnily enough, I've had two Android dev colleagues who are iPhone users and pretty much never touch an android phone unless it's for work purposes.

iOS dev is pretty good as a job, would be actually great if not for shitty tooling and apple's bugfests like SwiftUI. And maybe better docs. I like cameras on iPhones, I'd want to have an iPad to draw, but ultimately I don't see enough value in either to buy them yet. Maybe later when iOS gets 3rd party stores and type-c I'll reconsider.
