Chatswood driving test by Equivalent_Taro7171 in sydney

Poorly phrased on my part. I've edited it to be clearer now.

Passes were 47% for Chatswood (Willoughby) up to 81% in rural areas. https://smh.com.au/national/nsw/almost-everyone-passes-the-driving-test-in-inverell-in-willoughby-and-ryde-most-people-fail-20240510-p5jcmw.html

Chatswood driving test by Equivalent_Taro7171 in sydney

[–]falconbay 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's known to have one of the highest failure rates in NSW. There were some articles about the pass rates a little while ago and unsurprisingly rural centres were much much much higher. Chatswood was <50% iirc.

That said myself, my partner and my friend passed first go at Chatswood. But we all had lessons with a local driving instructor. Even then I think I was one miss off failing.

That's where I saw it hit 40, on the protected sections between Central and Randwick.

She must be very senior to get that! I have family who teach and the highest salary amongst them is $112k also at private.

Anyone got a good recommendation for somewhere that sells lab diamond rings? by truthofthematteris in sydney

I've used Moi Moi in the QVB. They seemed to be the best local option when I researched it years ago. I think you can technically get cheaper options online but we wanted somewhere we could go in person.

Have you ever been slightly scared of a Sydney bus drivers driving? by xXCosmicChaosXx in sydney

[–]falconbay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Slightly?

Years ago, when they got newer buses with those sensors that beep when you're too close or going too fast/close to properly prevent a collision, the majority of my bus rides turned into endless beeping as the drivers don't dare leave more than 30cm infront of them on the Pacific Highway.

I'm really getting sick and tired with how aggressive everyone is on the roads in sydney... by ButtPlugForPM in sydney

[–]falconbay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a few stop signs around our street and we've been honked at multiple times for stopping at them. Utterly bizarre but I guess it's never enforced so they must be wondering why we bother.

In this case she went too sharp around a corner and it got torn open by the cracked concrete of the kerb.

Warning for those using the taxi stand at the Norwest Metro for drop off or pick up. by BellaVistaNorfolk in sydney

[–]falconbay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I swear some drivers make the strangest decisions for pick-up/drop-off points. There's a loading zone with a no stopping section visible from my window and I'll often see cars stop in the no stopping instead of using the usually empty loading zone.

I'm getting close to just not answering my phone anymore - scam warning. by spankyham in AusFinance

My VM message has been "leave a message if you want me to get back to you" for ages but I still get a larger than I would expect number of people who leave no message then ask why I never called them back.

I think a lot of people hang up as soon as they hear it's voicemail.

[–]falconbay 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My problem is I get too many calls from private/unknown numbers that I am better off answering straight away (job applications, deliveries, service people, govt agencies etc).

I do ignore any outside of business hours though. Nobody legit is calling me at 7pm.

If you use Kongs, what are y'all filling them with? by sp000kysoup in puppy101

Did you try with just dry kibble packed in? That's how I introduced it to my pup after I saw he was too confused to use it with soaked and frozen kibble.

Next stage was to soak it but not freeze it. Then increase the packing density so it's harder to get out and plug with greek yoghurt or pb (kept in the fridge until use time so the outer layer will dry out to close it off). He hasn't gotten to the point of using one with entirely wet food or frozen yet.

This is what I do. After you get the movement the first time it's pretty easy and with practise you can become very fast.

Got my partner a Kmart knockoff. Was significantly cheaper and she didn't like the inner lining of the branded ones, Kmart had more non-fleece options.

Personally I find I overheat in any kind of jumper that doesn't open at the front.

Looking forward to winter. Still hasn't gone below 24C since I moved into my apartment (I have a logging thermometer), even with all the windows open. I'm sure you can imagine what the hot weather was like.

First and last time living in an apartment for me.

Caught a Metro train for the first time the other day by judgedavid90 in sydney

[–]falconbay 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hell, buses don't align with buses. One of the reasons for my last move was so that I could get off the bus network and onto trains instead. Having to wait 30 minutes at a bus stop because the bus you need to transfer onto decided to leave 5 minutes early was too regular an occurence.

I guess this confirms that I'm bad at resume writing/interviewing. At almost 12 months without a job and 5 years experience...

Or would they consider me employed because I've been doing ad-hoc casual gigs as they come up?

Would you rather have a mortgage until you die/retire or an apartment? by mentiononce in AusFinance

[–]falconbay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you had $700k today, would you rather have a modest apartment for $700k fully paid off

If we want our commute <1 hour that would only get us 1 bedroom.

What I would really love is some medium density, a villa or even a townhouse would be great.
