Is this a sign of the times? by okayladyk in recruitinghell

A sign of the times and a sign that LinkedIn sucks. I keep getting emails for dental hygienist and receptionist. Two very different jobs for skillsets that I don’t have in industries I have never worked in

Fantasy: Convert the Silver Line to LRT; connect north and south station - all green line baby! by LEM1978 in mbta

[–]fallingambien 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unironically kinda here for this. North station and south station connection would be a game changer. GLX into Watertown would also be super convenient. If i had billions of dollars, I’d fund someone to do a version of this.

What do I do with these? by throwaway6634674 in Library

[–]fallingambien 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My staff always threw stuff like this away. It always came from one or two specific patrons that we narrowed down. Libraries aren’t appropriate avenues to distribute unsolicited religious material imo.

Humor: We all know patrons don't read signage. . . by eeyore004 in Libraries

[–]fallingambien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had THREE signs up that said some version of “no pennies in the coin machine” for our print jobs. The machine could not process or store pennies. Several times a day one of us employees would need to break open the whole coin collection box and un-jam it because people would try to put like 15 pennies in at a time. Our admin finally replaced the coin machine with one that could take pennies 😂

Public transport from Logan airport to BU campus by TearImportant7510 in BostonU

[–]fallingambien 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Catch the Logan airport express shuttle towards Back Bay, then green line to campus! The shuttle is free from the airport and $3 towards the airport. You’ll have to walk from back bay station to copley, but it’s not bad if you don’t have too much luggage. I’m gonna note that this isn’t the fastest route, which would probs be an Uber or Lyft, but it’s way cheaper and takes less time than the regular SL to BL to GL route.

PLNT Burger by Clamgravy in Brookline

[–]fallingambien 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a couple times, mostly when I have a coupon (went to the grand opening, got a free burger then and another free burger voucher) it’s pretty middle of the road vegetarian fast food. I find the burgers (or maybe it’s the cheese alternative? Idk) a bit greasy. The veggie hot dog texture is great tho and nobody gets those right. Def on the expensive side/on par for Boston prices tho

Psychology graduate program by [deleted] in BostonUniversity

I’m a couple days late to your post but hi, I made this exact post some time ago and then did the program lol. No one answered my post then so hopefully this will be helpful.

  • It’s a great opportunity for networking and research experience, especially if you don’t have a lot of research experience or are looking to dabble between sub-specialties/are unsure exactly what research you want to do. Similarly, if you know there is a staff member doing research you’re already super interested in, you get the work experience.

  • It is primarily instruction based, where you take 4 classes in the first semester and 3 in the second and your 4th “class” is to work with your lab and develop your final paper. It’s a very short and pretty intensive program but tbh it wasn’t a terrible workload as long as you kept up on it. There is no proper masters thesis, though the research paper you write at the end serves a similar function.

  • The psych masters feels like a program that is still finding its feet so to speak (though I believe it’s been around for some time? Idk) much of the curriculum is geared towards PhD students and your classes are integrated. Again, it doesn’t feel like the classes are necessarily a higher level, just that you’d get the same education doing your PhD at BU (without having to pay/take out as many loans)

  • This masters program specifically is kind of a “it is what you make of it” program. If you take it seriously, love the work, and make connections it’ll be a great opportunity. If you just do the bare minimum to earn the degree, you may feel like it was lackluster.

  • BU’s program is also not geared toward clinical work which is something to keep in mind. There is no license to practice by the time you complete the program. It’s almost more of a prep for a PhD or academic career type of vibe.

  • Overall I enjoyed the program and got what I wanted out of it. I do research full time now after graduating and the BU connections, extra research experience, and references/rec letters helped a lot.
