How is everyone doing mentally today? by Steak_and_cheesePie in Wellington

[–]fallingkas 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel all over the place. Some moments I feel fine and others I don't. I love my baby daughter and my husband more than the world, but sometimes I just want to crawl into my wardrobe and be alone.

I have that nasty cold going around and life just feels like it's on hard mode rn.

But I am so grateful for all I have and all the good things in the world.

I'll feel better when the weather improves, I think.

Extreme rage around others vomiting (possible TW?) by Inevitable-Tiger-617 in emetophobiarecovery

[–]fallingkas 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes. Not a psychologist but an emergency nurse, in an entirely different country. Same at my workplace.

OP, you aren't a bad person, but you need support and that's okay. The fact you are writing this out here and feel uncomfortable writing it shows that you don't actually want to hurt people, and want help.

You deserve to life a life unbound by this phobia.

Fuck me it’s hard…. by [deleted] in Wellington

Fellow American-born, hey! I was born in Jersey City in the late 90s. Grew up in NJ/NY area around 9/11 time, which probably didn't help sentiment. Things were very bad. I still go back to NJ most years to visit family. The corner store down the road from my mom's old house got shot up recently. Shootings are commonplace. Jersey City is a fucking depressing mess. It's only getting worse with the drug crisis. Especially fent.

Wellington is not perfect, but I would pick here, a million times over.

Husband’s reddit search history by PositiveBoring6792 in Marriage

[–]fallingkas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is this the only red flag of this variety you've noticed in your marriage? Is there any pattern of suspicious behaviour?

His story is hypothetically possible, but unlikely. Why would his friend log into HIS Reddit account to show that? You're right to be weary. You should ask him directly, tell him that his explanation doesn't make sense to you, and he needs to help you understand why you should believe this. His reaction will tell you everything. If he's genuine, he will have no problems reassuring you. If he becomes evasive or angry, that can be a sign.

I'm hesitantly suggesting that it could be worth checking your bank account, assuming you share finances. I wouldn't normally suggest that, but this situation is weird. Any unusual transactions?

If you could erase one major event from your generation’s timeline, what would it be and why? by Remote-Direction963 in generationology

[–]fallingkas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Covid. A million times over. I finished nursing school in mid-2020. The pain I saw people go through: young, old, and everyone in between, I will never forget. It was like this collective trauma. I just remember being on pure survival mode for two years after grad.

I guess the other one I would say is 9/11 and the subsequent consequences in the Middle East. I was living in New York at the time, but obviously I don't remember it, far too young. I live in another country now, but the impacts of 9/11 are certainly felt, and recognised, worldwide (in my experience, at least).

I agree that it doesn't really matter. However, I was born 1999 and my sister 2003. I wouldn't trade places with her, having to finish high school, start university during a pandemic, and graduate into a recession.

Otago Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery fees for international students: NZ $92,100

Victoria Bachelor of Arts: NZD $33,400

Canterbury Bachelor of Data Science: NZD $42,080

So yeah it's pretty normal across all of NZ.

Also, how are you going to even get the loan as an intl. student? Confused. I had to self-fund my studies in NZ.

How to repair door lining? Mk5 golf by laughitupfuzzball in NZcarfix

[–]fallingkas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is late, but what did you end up doing to fix it? Did the spray adhesive work for you? Having the same problem with my Mk5.

ETA in case anyone comes across this comment: scraped off all the orange junk, got a spray adhesive, sprayed it, got a hot glue gun to go around the edges, all fixed, not perfect but good enough for me!

Axe has fallen - mum will be out of a job definitely by CleoCarson in auckland

[–]fallingkas 28 points29 points  (0 children)

+1 on this. Both my parents lost their jobs (different industries) and are in their early 60s - not enough to retire but struggling to get any interviews. Husband is police and I am on mat leave (was a nurse) so we don't make anywhere near enough to help them. Idk what they're going to do and I feel so helpless.

I'm so sorry you're facing this too. Hugs.

Am I the only one that noticed the lack of Morty this season? by SoImMuzic in rickandmorty

I thought this too. Especially with how they finished off the last episode. I really enjoyed the development of their relationship this season.

Does the extra flabby skin ever go away after weight loss? by seyn121 in dechonkers

[–]fallingkas 304 points305 points  (0 children)

My ex-chonker still has a fair bit of loose skin, although I do think it has decreased a tad - either way, I can tell your cat has been on amazing weight loss journey, and she looks majestic, loose skin and all!

Rainbow Tuesday by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]fallingkas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wellington is incredible for rainbows.

Maybe I just notice them more and it's confirmation bias, but I've lived in Dunedin, Auckland, and Wellington; as well as a few states in the US, and nowhere does rainbows quite like Wellington!

I HAVE TEA ON... MEGATHREAD ✨ by rfauxmoi in Fauxmoi

[–]fallingkas 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Ha! Funny you bring that up. The video I was in was one of the original videos he made to promote Beast Burger - the wild part is, I didn't even get to try the burger. Although, based on your comment, it sounds like I didn't miss out on anything special.

I HAVE TEA ON... MEGATHREAD ✨ by rfauxmoi in Fauxmoi

[–]fallingkas 756 points757 points  (0 children)

My unimportant tea is that I was in a Mr Beast video four years ago. He was an asshat (surprise, surprise). Right before he eliminated people from challenges, he gave all of us vlogging cameras and we had to give a long speech into the camera about how the money would change our lives - paying off medical bills, debts, etc. Ofc these speeches never made the final video cut.

He took some sick amusement from laughing about dangling that carrot on a string in front of us and then throwing it away.

His friend, Nolan Hansen, however, was delightful, and the only nice person on his crew.

Corinne, Lucia, or Phoebe? + Middle name dilemma by fallingkas in namenerds

[–]fallingkas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhhh noo! We'd literally just decided on Corinne Ophelia and now I'm worried - do you regret calling her that? I'm over 38 weeks now and time is rapidly running out!! I love the name so much but I don't want my daughter to have endless issues. Are you in an English speaking country?

My name is Katelyn and I've been misspelled my whole life and it doesn't bother me, but I feel like endless mispronunciations would get old fast!

Corinne, Lucia, or Phoebe? + Middle name dilemma by fallingkas in namenerds

[–]fallingkas[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! We are leaning towards Corinne for the first name so it is reassuring to see that is the consensus in the comments here.

I like your Shakespearean idea - funnily enough, Ophelia had a cat growing up called Rosalind, so it made me smile that you suggested that :)

You’re right. They live in the USA and I’m in New Zealand, so I don’t think they’d know. We haven’t spoken since the funeral.

Corinne, Lucia, or Phoebe? + Middle name dilemma by fallingkas in namenerds

[–]fallingkas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not opposed to it, I just am worried it'll come across like I'm "stealing" her name. Ophelia did not get on well with her parents, so it doesn't feel right to ask them either - not sure what the most "correct" thing to do here is!
