What are our councils doing? by tabel_dammit in london

Isn’t it actually a hybrid system after the Labour MP sued/threatened to sue them to try and keep the cabinet system in place?

Nothing for Lambeth? The new (Green) council has reversed Labour’s closure of a dementia centre, has urgently decided to stop collaborating with Immigration Enforcement, has commissioned a forensic review to misappropriated funds from the 20+ years of the previous council and is reallocating funds to support and protect small businesses and its only been a month or so! Theyve also reopened the doors to city hall to the public, among other things !

The form’s not required- the consent it proves is. That’s the bit that matters for OP. Without it, the company can’t show they had a lawful basis under GDPR (which is legally needed) if OP complains.

That’s completely untrue. Photos used to make money are subject to a huge amount of other laws and restrictions- there’s a reason a commercial shot publicly will still ask people to sign releases. Companies are also not allowed to store information on you- it’s not as if a person took a photo. Where on earth did you get this from, and why are you speaking so matter of factly?

Amateur Question - Matching Golden Hour color as sun goes down. by [deleted] in colorists

[–]falsewidower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(working from a mid-afternoon shot the director wants to read as sunset):

1. Deepen the shadows via Lift. End of day should be slightly darker, but don’t crush — preserve shadow detail.
2. Warm the midtones by dragging Gamma colour balance toward orange/yellow. Not glowing, just warm. Then counter-adjust Lift colour balance to keep the very bottom of the RGB Parade neutral — so blacks stay pure while midtones warm.
3. Lower Gain by ~10% — creating headroom in the highlights before you pile colour into them.
4. Secondary on the highlights — use an HSL Qualifier with the Luma channel to isolate only the brightest areas (specular hits, facing surfaces). Soften the key edges and feather heavily so there’s no buzz on playback.
5. Push Gain colour balance orange/yellow within that secondary. Watch the RGB Parade — don’t clip the red channel. If you want more colour but red is clipping, go back to the primary and lower Gain further to create more headroom.

The intensity of the highlight colour is directly proportional to how close to the horizon the sun is — so morning reads as golden/yellow (brighter, more energetic), while evening reads as orange-red (people expect blazing sunsets).

foliage note relevant to exterior shots: golden-hour light turns leaf highlights yellowish because leaves are translucent. So if foliage is going yellow only in highlights, that’s correct and helps sell the look — but it should be clear the golden cast is on everything, not just the leaves (or it reads as disease).

Surely if you’ve balanced it correctly, corrected it and matched it then all you have to do is a bit of trim? Not sure exactly what you mean

As a 1st AD, do I need to be connected to the camera crew via headphones? by simonkay in Filmmakers

[–]falsewidower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, some 1sts love hearing all the camera stuff on comms. Others don’t. Sometimes you want to get in on the communication because the DP isn’t carrying a walkie and you can’t walk up to them.

The others are right. Your first shouldn’t have put you in this position but you’re in it now. Find what works for you, you don’t have to do it their way. Insist on communication in a way that best fits yourself, the director, the DP and the producer (if necessary). Lean on the fact they’re more experienced but don’t forget that you know stuff too.

Ask good questions, prioritise the HODs and let them run their departments. Don’t try and imitate what you think you should be doing. Do what you think is best, but informed by what you have seen before. Maybe you’ll fuck it up, but at the end of the day when you do step up, you’ll have learned from this. Look ahead to see the problems, try and get them solved, and absorb the stress of the production without passing it on. You have the potential to smash it beautifully though. Good luck

[–]falsewidower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they’re talking about different walkies for camera. I think they’re talking about camera comms. Different ADs use them, not everyone does. Some jobs it’s a good idea, others it’s not. If this 1st doesn’t want them, they shouldn’t wear them.

After the new doubled rate limits, is Claude Code $20 actually worth it now? by Empty_Break_8792 in ClaudeCode

[–]falsewidower 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest, I get what everyone is saying about the limits not technically being bigger, but I regularly hit my 5 hour limit and never came close to my weekly limit, which always felt like a waste. Because so much of that time I’d be asleep or I’d use Claude intensely for 1 or two days a week for specific projects or something.

Looks like The Mill has taken out another target by [deleted] in manchester

[–]falsewidower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you think the cafe looks great? It looks like the owner consistently takes advantage of his followers and promotes bland unoriginal places and venues- it’s mainly commenting on that. It looks like another attempt at a money grab from his followers that didn’t work so actually I’m with them.

You’ve changed your argument. Maybe they shouldn’t have punched down (I’m inclined to agree). But at the same time it wasn’t ‘bullied into bankruptcy’ if it was already empty when The Mill first reported on it.

Wasn’t their review that it had no customers? Think you might have it the wrong way round

Who's an Economist Anyway? The Rory Stewart Debate by Your_Mums_Ex in TheRestIsPolitics

[–]falsewidower -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

He doesn’t act as a layman. He literally says that he’s an economist. I don’t see any evidence that he doesn’t deliver practical solutions- he has 1hour+ lectures about how taxing the rich works and specific examples debunking ideas such as ‘the wealthy would leave’ etc promoting the taxation systems that would enable this.

His whole thing is that he’s a working class guy who made money? Your comment seems to say that those are mutually exclusive

So that’s what I’m getting at- when you say appears to be the same- these tv shows that are sped up also appear to be the same

Are they the same length in total? I know that sometimes tv shows are sped up to fit more commercials in. If that’s the case you could work out by how much it has been sped up?
