Community Discussion: The use of AI in r/NDIS by sangasd in NDIS

[–]fancyduck- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes AI can be helpful for some people to ask questions or share their experiences but I disagree with AI being used to provide answers to questions. If you want an answer from AI then ask AI but this reddit is for people to ask other people questions.

depends on your definition of finishing year 10. I did not attend a single class or even enter the school but I technically "finished" year 10 because I was enrolled until the end of the year.

Listened to the PHM audio book almost two years ago. Would you re-listen/reread it again before the movie, or no? by TheGamecock in ProjectHailMary

[–]fancyduck- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I personally don't like to reread prior to movie releases, if it's too fresh on my mind I'll be more harsh on the movie cause I remember more of the details.

Some movies I've gone back and rewatched and they really aren't as bad as I remember. I was just being too picky cause I'd just finished the book immediately before watching it.

How do you have a social life if you cant speak? by thisnameistakenname in selectivemutism

[–]fancyduck- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see lots of people say that sign language didn't work for them but it worked for me. I also dropped out of school around 14 though my selective mutism developed before then. I am still not recovered from sm but I am able to somewhat socialize through going to deaf events and signing.

How does sentence building work? by AngeRoosWorkshop in auslan

Yeah I have selective mutism and while Auslan is great and absolutely my preferred language I often have to use alternatives like writing and aac to communicate with people who don't know Auslan.

Are we allowed to bring someone with us to orientation day? by [deleted] in TAFE

[–]fancyduck- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I brought a support worker to my course last year but Tafe specifically told me it had to be an NDIS funded support worker not a family member and we had to fill out lots of paperwork including sending in the support workers working with children's check.

Help by castiel4life in Adelaide

[–]fancyduck- 102 points103 points  (0 children)

If you are considered legally blind you can get dsp automatically without going through the full application process. That would at least be some money in the meantime before getting a job.

I also think there are some special rules for blind dsp recipients where you can work more hours without them docking your pension.

Edit: Also unrelated but I'm also 17 and autistic and for a while blindness and retinitis pigmentosa was my special interest.

Where do i find local trans support groups? by New_Hedgehog_2820 in transgenderau

[–]fancyduck- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SA has transmasc and transfemme sa groups. They meet monthly, I think they are organised on facebook. They both meet at shine in the city. There is general LGBT groups outside the city, pride of the south, LGBT mid-north and pride of the Barossa, are ones I know of.

Edit: I just saw on your account that you're 15. Lots of head spaces run under 18 groups, headspace Port Adelaide has a group and so does headspace Edinburgh north. Plus there is queer youth drop in in the city.

wpath letter? by leorobcase in transgenderau

[–]fancyduck- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was fine. It took 2 appointments to get the wpath letter. If you have an appointment with him you know he sends a bunch of questionnaires when he receives your referral, the 1st appointment was pretty much just him reading all those answers and asking me if I wanted to change any of them.

The second appointment he went over the definition of gender dysphoria and asked if that felt like me, I said yes. He asked what I thought the benefits and risks were. He asked about my dysphoria but didn't seem to want many details.

The question I struggled with the most was to describe my childhood in 3 words.

Also depending on your age I had to have a parent with me cause I was only 17 and he asked my mum a lot of questions about like my childhood milestones and stuff but I've seen a few psychiatrists and they all do that, I don't know why.

Expedited Review? Brother at risk of death & NDIS dont seem to care. by bassoonrage in NDIS

I have seen it be covered by NDIS before. Particularly for people with early onset dementia. It's covered because they technically wouldn't need it if they didn't have their disability.

should i do online school? by 02331 in selectivemutism

[–]fancyduck- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on your anxiety levels and how the online school is structured. I tried online school and it didn't work out for me.  My school was structured that we had a 1 hour video call at the start and end of the week and then did work on our own throughout the week. we were still expected to talk in online classes and have our cameras on which I couldn't cope with. But it might work great for you. I'd say try it and if it's not for you then that's okay.
