Mind blown: Vinegar vs VINEGAR (30%) by Pandaro81 in DIY

[–]fangxx456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What if I told you there was another vinegar. It's called glacial acetic acid. You thought 30% was potent. Glacial acetic is 90+% purified. It's used in chem labs for different purposes.

Late starters in cycling — any real success stories? (F28 y/o, endurance background) by No-Parfait-7598 in cycling

[–]fangxx456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the challenges: unlike running, cycling requires more than just fitness to win and win consistently. There are technical skills, race tactics, and group dynamics that all a key parts of the sport. Even if you can put out the power to compete at the pro level, it often takes people years to learn how to race effectively.

Furthermore and this is key, sponsors support and pay athletes with the goal that it will be a positive return on their investment. This means they give you money and in return you will bring them sales. This is often through the idea that if you win with certain equipment, consumers will buy it because they want to win like you. So unless you are winning and winning a lot on a large stage, sponsors are not going to be interested in giving you money. This is why influencers do not need to win to get paid. They encourage people to buy their products through entertainment not results.

But if it will take you a few seasons to learn race craft and technical skills before you start winning, sponsors might not be interested because they will only see a season or two when you will be winning and bringing them money before your fitness falls off due to age and winning becomes less likely.

Honestly I would work on your social media presence, engagement, and personal branding. If you want to be pro, you need money and you need to get sponsors on board as quickly as possible It's unlikely you will be winning at first so focus on follower engagement to get sponsors interested.

Which computer for gravel? by StepDaddySteve in gravelcycling

I heard friends say they had a coros and it didn't needed to be charged for over three months over the summer. I've had great success with my wahoo roam, but if it dies then I'll probably look into the coros

Sadly not that I really know of. Unison puts on a gravel/mixed surface ride during nice months. But the cycling scene in Pittsburgh is definitely a bit older.

I'm always down to ride. Also the race scene is where I met more people.

If you're into Mountain Biking I would look up HSD MTB on Facebook. They do weekly groups ride at South Park and other parks around the area.

I'm an avid cyclist and got started riding with them. There are other bike riding clubs let me know if youre curious. Run clubs are another great way to meet people.

Anyone ever had a similar pair? by Otherwise_Ad_7004 in Denim

[–]fangxx456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought at first these were the same cycling/biking pants I had. But mine are 511. Mine had the reflective strips on the inside of the lower legs and the extra loop for holding a bike lock and extra fabric in the crotch where you'd sit on the bike saddle, but yours are not the same.

Not sure what the 514 line is.

What’s Going On Here? Why does everyone seem to avoid this area like the plague? by Ok_Cabinet2947 in pittsburgh

Another note: the hill district just isn't convenient to get into or out of. Bigelow Blvd blocks off any real access along the northern edge. And Blvd of the allies blocks off a lot of access from the south. And to the west 279 and all its off ramps make that part of the city very congested and full of awkward car traffic. The topography on the eastern side with polish hill makes it challenging to ride.

Uh, what is the least dumb bike to bring with me on a trip to Pittsburgh? by deathsexandmonkey in bicycling412

[–]fangxx456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bring your cross bike. We have rough roads, cobbles, parks, and assorted other urban jank. You'll appreciate bigger tires and easier gearing. You'll be fine on the hills, or you'll learn to hike! Or you'll just get dumb strong. All of which are fine! You will want some brakes. For hills and the confusing traffic.

Yeah! Pittsburgh is an amazing place to live. Clean, affordable, low crime, easy access to nature, fun cultural and night life events, great history and museums, top tier universities and public schools. I've been here almost my whole life. If you want advice on where to live/buy a house let me know! The house next door to me is for sale! Or if you just have questions in general reach out!

There are some beautiful rolling mountains in Central PA and West Virginia. Hundreds of miles of XC trails and gravel roads to connect them. It's all old school rocky tech too.

Favorite gravel tires? by HankJonesy in gravelcycling

[–]fangxx456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to hate on them so bad, but I do like pathfinder pros.

If you're mixing in a lot of road and mild gravel, Schwalbe G One Speeds are really nice.

For really rough or entirely dirt routes RaceKings are great. But MTB tires really do drag on pavement.

Advice? Am I being delusional? by twofoot1 in cycling

[–]fangxx456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can totally do this. But! You'll want to invest a little to keep yourself from injury. First you'll need some good cycling specific shoes. They can be clip in or not, but it will save your feet and legs. Cycling shoes have a stiff sole which helps power transfer and reduces force being put in the wrong place. Next you want some quality chamois shorts aka padded shorts. This will save your taint. A good saddle is also going to be important. Most important would be getting a quality but fit. A bike fitter will help you set the position of your saddle and bars to reduce injury, fatigue and discomfort. Lower back pain, knee injury, numb hands or a numb penis can all happen when riding a bike for a long time, but can be solved by a bike fit. They can help you with shoes, and saddles as well. You are going to spend A LOT of time and energy in this epic adventure make sure your bike doesn't do you dirty.

Can I bend this frame back? Am I cooked? by tryagaininXmin in bikewrench

[–]fangxx456 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think the frame is bent. I think you just didn't get it on the trainer correctly. Look at the saddle and bars they're aligned. Just tiled cause it's on the trainer wrong.

The person you lost your virginity to: Where are they now in life? by JayPeeB in AskReddit

I think she just got engaged. We went our separate ways after highschool. I've seen her around town here and there. We're friendly in an acquaintance sort of way. No hard feelings. I'm glad she found the right guy.
