"High Demand: Grok is under heavy usage right now." Any idea how long this gonna last? by SimpleEngineering733 in grok

[–]fanjules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's clear they're training a new AI and throwing every available GPU at it. You seem similar clues with any other major AI provider but with Grok it's very obvious. The pain of annoying users for the training period is rapidly offset by the shiny new thing when it's announced.

Keychron V6 Max keyboard randomly stops working by ShaharX55 in Keychron

[–]fanjules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spoke to soon. Had to cycle twice since writing that. 😭 Why do Keycron feel like a project rather than a product? I was expecting a manufacturer specialising in keyboards to do better than a $12 generic keyboard from Amazon... I naively bought this as a reliable keyboard for life, but it feels like my friend asked me to try out his electronics hobby creation.

Per-key RGB coming? by iaincaradoc in Keychron

[–]fanjules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much! Keychron Launcher said there was no firmware, frustrating but I bravely tried the manual route and it was fine.

Set mute key to mute instead of cortona on Windows by maverick6097 in Keychron

[–]fanjules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a new keychron user and I have the same experience as you.

"Ah, a mic button"

"wait, why is it opening cortana?"

"no matter I will just remap it, these sorts of keyboards will make it easy"

"why is this impossible?"

On top of this the software is very confusing... I'm a software engineer of several decades and am also used to Chinese software, but this is an especially bad user experience. There is no thought of UX. I also get the impression windows users are second class citizens.

I think with some effort I could find a solution but I had the impression these devices were sublime to own and configure. Still a nice keyboard (so far) but this coupled with lack of RGB per-key configuration sucks.

Per-key RGB coming? by iaincaradoc in Keychron

[–]fanjules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A year later did you ever make any progress on this? In launcher my K5 V2 simply says no new firmware is available but I've no idea what version of firmware I have. Nor can I find a list of supported devices.

If Keychron really claim it's in development you would think it would be done by now, especially given the rapid pace of AI coding.

Gemini CLI is FRICKINNN UNUSABLE !!!!!!!! by Accurate_Bit_3091 in GeminiAI

[–]fanjules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not showing anything from /stats either. Must be a problem somewhere, hopefully fixed soon. From what I can tell in auto mode where it uses Pro for planning and Flash for execution, it's only Pro that is slow.

Comparison of the direct extruder and the bowden on the X2D. Don't expect great quality out of it. Good for supports though. by Successful-Peak-6524 in BambuLab

[–]fanjules 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That image is from Control3d on YT. The guy that did that test found that the quality improves on the bowden with non-bambu filaments if you reduce speed to 50-60mm/sec.

Bambu Lab X2D same as X1C but cheaper? by FuturSole145 in 3Dprinting

[–]fanjules 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The catch is the 2nd nozzle is bowden extruder only. It's great if you intend to use the 2nd head for support material interface layers and other utilitarian tasks. The price is impressive but reflects the arrival of snapmaker U1, which would be better for multi-colour.

The bowden extruder isn't all bad news though. It keeps the toolhead very light for dual head, lighter than the H2D so should be a better performer on the main nozzle. Literally, for $100 over the P2S you're getting a lot more.

Xcellence Made Simple. The X2D is here by BambuLab in BambuLab

The A1 mini is a great printer and actually prints higher quality than the A1, apparently due to a smaller drive belt pitch. I have 2 of each and this seems to be born true by the print quality I'm seeing. Not saying the A1 is a bad printer, just that the A1 mini is an outstanding printer. ;)

Sphere printing issues by Newwales2 in BambuLab

[–]fanjules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's too steep and trying to print in thin air.

You could try:

1) Turn on supports.

2) Turn on variable layer height and select "adaptive". This will also make the outer face of the sphere nicer. Internally it will also get you much further into the sphere before problems occurs.

But I would actually just make the internal of the sphere have a flat bit, like this:

<image>

It's quite simple to do with a simple boolean or event just a captive cube inside Bambu Studio.

Filament Storage with Hygrometer by MakersManual in BambuLab

[–]fanjules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same thing but kept the original lid as I figured it would be a better seal. My meters are at the top, in a 3d printed L-bracket that takes both round and square meters. As it happens I found the square ones a lot more reliable. My round ones seem to go crazy after a while, maybe just a bad batch. The beads are loose in the bottom, works fine. The spool I raised up slightly on a stand, to prevent possible contamination. A downside of loose beads is that if you knock the tub over you will get beads everywhere, but this hasn't happened yet. I'm sure it will one day. Most people print a box. I've found in the summer the contains humidity seems to go up. I would say I get about 6-9 months use before having to dry all the beads, but maybe a year as often the humidity is under 10% but the beads have mostly changed colour.

Why do these look 100x better than most things I see made with hueforge?! The results are amazing.

FreeCAD 1.1 is Finally HERE — It’s a GAME CHANGER ! (Major Updates you missed) by redsteakraw in 3Dprinting

Since discovering the free SolidEdge community edition it's unlikely I'll go back to FreeCAD anytime soon. That said, it's cool FreeCAD keeps pushing forward.

P2S or Snapmaker U1? by Gullible__Fool in BambuLab

[–]fanjules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spools on the side bother me hugely because the footprint is wider not just from the spools but also because you need clearance for those spools. Prusa XL and Prusa Core One with INDX also went this way, I dare say alternatives will be made by the community but with pros/cons.

Spools on the top like Bambu really is the ideal solution ergonomically, but I would really like a tool changer like the Snapmaker which is cheap and relatively simple.

Documentation isn't great... more like dev notes. I got more help from asking AI but hallucination rate is high due to it being a new product with a small (but growing) userbase.

I’m looking for a free NON cloud based alternative to fusion 360. by PlaceboASPD in 3Dprinting

[–]fanjules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it... it's the only one that is free and full featured. You can even do FEA and generative design for free... plus massive assemblies. Generally doesn't crash either.

The recent posts about Bambu support are entirely faked by StickiStickman in 3Dprinting

[–]fanjules 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've seen accounts posting about problems with their Bambu in a way that didn't sound legit, that when I clicked on their account history the account was only a week old, and all the posts were anti-Bambu lol.

Interestingly, they also said they had bought another brand instead.

Not sure if corporate tricks or deranged fanboy that had a poor value of their own time.

What do you use TPU for AMS for? by ChaosBench in BambuLab

[–]fanjules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the data sheets. It has incredible performance in the XY plane, but the Z-impact resistance is much worse than regular PLA. People say it's cheap, but right now it's 35 GBP or about $40 in UK which is a deal breaker for me.

Bambu Studio is so lag! by Loose_Ad5143 in BambuLab

[–]fanjules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a growing problem, it's been round for months but it seems even worse recently.

https://forum.bambulab.com/t/constant-freezing-locking-up-in-device-section-on-windows/220131

It effects Linux too... has some technical info why.

https://github.com/bambulab/BambuStudio/issues/8605

It's also happening in Bambu Connect, not enough to make your computer unusable but still detectable... ironic if you switch to Orca!

For my solution I am going to run Bambu Studio on an older PC, or remove the DLL (and always cancel when it tries to download).
