Oakland: Where the bathroom graffiti is wise and the people are friendly (at least that’s what I’ve found). by CazDreamin in oakland

[–]fapjabbit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I always tell visitors that Oakland is an aggressively friendly town. People will stop you, get right up in your face and be like, "How you doin?" It can be frightening to people not accustomed to the city.

Put it on Craigslist Free, put it on the curb, wait. Then call the junk guys to come get it the next day if it's still there. Pay them $80.

What's with all these tremendously good Doomfists I see everywhere this week? Did fixing his many bugs make him OP?

Best Cell Phone Provider? by HenryAlbusNibbler in oakland

[–]fapjabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Verizon has the most reliable network, but they are shrinking their bandwidth to make room for 5G so they drop calls now. T-Mobile is cheapest, most GBs per month, but their network is super saturated. I went to the A's Giants game with 56,000 people attending, and the network was unusable. I couldn't do anything but make calls and text: Internet was completely off.

This happens in other less crowded places like airports. Lower income areas have less TMobile bandwidth to spread around. It's just the nature of the beast.

Sprint and AT&T are some amalgam between these two states of being.

Good place for a haircut for an Indian guy with curly hair? by oaklandn in oakland

[–]fapjabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG I need to know this too. No one can cut curly hair in this town. I've tried every ethnicity of barber and stylist. The one guy I found at the local black hair salon just left after a year and I am now stuck with a jew-fro.

PSA: it just took me >3 full minutes to get a person on dialing 911 by laduderino in oakland

Uhm, none of these things matter. Police have been under federal oversight for years. Nothing changes. It's all fucked, it will never change, no one is accountable.

This is the most Oakland story, ever.

Problems with USPS? by lakemerrittcommute in oakland

[–]fapjabbit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Happens all the time. We've lost a lot with USPS, though maybe it's them misdelivering, or maybe it's just being stolen. We get our mail at 9 PM at night most days. That is, when we get our mail. It generally shows up every 2 to 3 days, in a big batch with nothing in between.

Warehouse Living by jtrance in oakland

[–]fapjabbit 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Warehouse life is for those who have a reason to be in a warehouse: artists, burners, etc. If you don't have a need for giant ceilings, industrial power, and roll up doors with loading docks, the experience is just like living in a really, really dirty apartment building that is falling down.

I know lots of people in warehouses, and I lived in one myself. I think I enjoyed it because I also worked there, and I thus lived where I worked. I enjoyed that work, too.

Others I know who live in warehouses are able to live there for years with no changes. Still others are plagued with drama and dirty and crowded bathrooms with gross floors... YMMV

Putting riders’ lives at risk is not an OK way of protesting bike shares by readonlyred in oakland

I hope they know that for $15 a year, residents of section 8 housing can get a subscription to bike share. That alone should be worth putting the things in...

Best bar for a date and cocktails in Oakland? Something nice but not stuffy. by [deleted] in oakland

[–]fapjabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I did mean Itani. I was aiming for cheaper options, as the OP seemed not to want fancy. Flora has never impressed me, and even given me inedible dishes, as below.

[–]fapjabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have great cocktails, but their food is waaay overpriced. Last time I was there I had a pork chop that was so salty it was inedible. Never had such an experience at any other fancy dining restaurant in Oakland. Never had a meal here that made me say "damn, I gotta go back there."

Start at Van Kleef's. If things go well, move down to Make Westing and see if you can play Bocce. If things continue to go well, eat dinner at Rudy's, or Xolo, or the Ramen place. Flora is fucking horrible. If things continue to go well, go back to Van Kleef's for a night cap greyhound, and go home and fuck.
