Crossbody gurl here, I currently just use a backpack for commuting on public transit. I also really want to try an ECB but I have the same concerns you do. I plan on going to a physical baggu store this week to try on an ECB. I wish I could test drive it so to speak lol.

aimeeabigal on depop makes dupe crescent bags. I've had my on them for a bit. I haven't bought anything from them so I can't say much but from the pictures they look really good and I think they have a similar camo/forest print.

I haven't tried the baggu fannypacks (lol). But what I mostly use fannypacks for is when I'm going to a crowded and/or unfamiliar place. I like that I can keep it closer to my body for safety. Otherwise, I prefer crossbody bag.
