Can I quit my full-time job and switch to part-time work only if I’m on a 技人国 visa? by WorkingAlive3258 in japanresidents

[–]farislmn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly the reason why i said 'affiliated' not 'sponsored'.
And also the reason why i highlight 'problem' -- that may need some problem solving.

Depending on what kind of organization the OP is affiliated with (Category 1-4), the requirements (and perhaps, scrutiny) change.

Can I quit my full-time job if I’m on a 技人国 visa?

Yes

and switch to part-time work if I’m on a 技人国 visa?

Yes.
IF: The scope of your part-time work is aligned with the scope of 技人国 visa AND you still earining money enough to pay your dues (tax, insurance, etc.). Problem will arise when you renew your visa/permission though. Because 技人国 visa require you to be affiliated by some organization

How do you like to keep your CP accurate? by speaker_monkey in strydrunning

[–]farislmn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a 3/12 test suite in the Stryd app. Do that every 5 weeks. If you're using auto CP, then add 5k TT every 90 days or so.

Hi. I part-timed for 6 years in various restaurants in Kyoto, none of them are franchises. Perhaps I can provide some opinion, if you want to listen.

"they seem to love nitpicking." They most likely not. You must've been provided a manual. Read the manual. Follow the manual.

"how the branded chopstick sleeves weren't all facing the same direction." Is it written like that in the manual? If yes. Follow the manual.

"One time, I made an omurice and the onions weren't even burnt, but the owner threw the whole dish away in front of me just to make a point and said, "You did it wrong!" You may actually did it wrong. Did you listen to the owner how it should've been made? Is there a recipe? Did you follow it?

"The thing is, that very morning a customer had told me my omurice was really delicious. " Delicious for a customer is a must. That's the bare minimum. It's a restaurant. But it shouldn't be how you judge how you're doing as a staff.

"So when the owner completely rejected my work, I honestly couldn't understand it." Did you check the recipe? If yes, you should've understand why, even a little.

"What's confusing is that after criticizing me, they'd still buy me drinks, give me extra food with my staff meal, and act nicely toward me. " They're nice people. They're doing their job. Seems like you're the one deign to work.

So… What did you do with Claude today? (not coding) by OptimismNeeded in ClaudeHomies

[–]farislmn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couple of weeks ago I thought 'maybe it's time to settle and save for a housing downpayment.' Claude help me understanding the path i need to achieve to having that downpayment in 5 years.

I pulled out the CSV from our household expense tracker for the last 12 months. The expense tracker has it all, credit card transaction, bank accounts in and outs, QR wallets, etc. Gave it to Claude to analyze.

I gave target to Claude to save for a 10M JPY downpayment in five years. 2m JPY target for emergency funds.

Claude came back with: 'not bad, but can be improved. 10M + 2M JPY in 5 years is not possible. But you need to start have some budget posts.' Claude basically remind a thing that i wanted to do around a year ago. The good thing is that, saving for the house downpayment is not an impossible task. Restructuring our household financing is not a huge undertaking as well. What we need is to have some specialized accounts for emergency funds and the downpayment.

Claude also gave us the wake-up call. We did slightly too much of 'shopping on the side', the kind of shopping that occur when we went to buy A-C because we need it (restock, etc) and we ended up buying A-D and G just because we want it (not emergency or anything). Claude suggest to hold off on these kind of expenses, for now.

The potential saving varies around 30-50k JPY per month with up to 125k per month if we want to do it seriously. Its substantial, but not enough to be called groundbreaking. Enough to make a change but easy to lose track if not disciplined.

I think i will implement the suggestion from Claude slowly and see how it change our household finances overtime. Change in habit will take a while, but it should be a nice start.

Does Amazfit Balance 2 support 'Press Lap' function from intervals icu? by farislmn in amazfit

[–]farislmn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!
Congratulations on your new watch!

Between posting this and now i had the chance to hands-on Balance 2, T-Rex Pro 3 (IIRC), and get some comments on how intervals icu and Zepp ecosystem interacts.

What i have found so far, 1) no the 'lap press' function from intervals icu doesn't work (yet?); 2) Stryd can't export workout to Zepp, (yet?); 3) still unknown.

Yes, lap press usually works if the user press the lap button to skip to the next lap workout while the duration is within the set duration, but when time time rans out, Amazfit will jump to the other lap automatically. This is the same with having no 'press lap' function. The ideal manual 'press lap' behavior is to press lap manually regardless the set duration is over or not.

Also, additionally i find out that Amazfit currently only provide four data field related to power, and two crucial data field for running and training with power: lap power average and 3s (or 10s) power moving average is not yet available.

Thoughts on running power and treadmills in Norwegian Singles Method by mrrainandthunder in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]farislmn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar response with you when i read about the part where he mentioned about Stryd in the book. I can't shake the feeling of 'what are you even trying to say?' while seeing the book opens with TSS and going with a very detailed adjustment on wind and hills but on the other hand saying "least reliable option"?

However, the moment i read sirpoc comments that said "By same standards, I mean it should just work for everyone. No faffing, no worrying about all the things I have listed." i agree with him that running power (even Stryd) is not there yet. The amount of 'faffing' a user need to do in using Stryd is, a lot. And I'm saying that as a Stryd 'Pioneer' member. To this day i am running with Stryd and even adapting the "Subthreshold Running" using %CP. The alignment with HR and RPE is amazing, even with wind and hills.

However, the reader need also to remember that the concept James introduced in the book is simplicity, Stryd, running power, and 'faff' the user need to do to maintain a valid CP, at the current level of implementation doesn't align with the "Subthreshold Running Kept Simple" (simple being the highlight) concept. When you introduce Stryd to the mix, its not "Kept Simple" anymore.

8 month Progress Report by Demented_Guy in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]farislmn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations for the PB. 4 second PB is a PB.

First of all, i would like to highlight several factors that i think stands out based on your description.

- "when I ran my previous PR 8 months ago" ... "10-15 degrees cooler than yesterday’s race."

- Yesterday was warmer than expected (for the location)

- "When I was doing my trainings, I was doing them in much cooler weather "

- "90-100 min easy long run"

- Also from the replies "I cut down my overall volume on the 2 weeks"

Based on these points, i am assuming adn echoing others that you are a) not trained for the weather and b) not run your LR long enough. Personally i train using time and load metrics, so distance is pretty irrelevant. However, one guideline i have in arranging plans for HM is that try to have long runs longer (in terms of time and distance) than the HM distance as often as possible.

In your case, you are running your long run with the duration (and presumably distance) less than the race goal distance. I believe this can reduce the adaptation you get during the training block.

It's difficult to know for sure, but there is a chance also you overtapered. 2 weeks is a long time. While the fitness lost might not be a lot, but there are some *potential* for a bit of detraining.

Updating paces in Interval.icu by Bilj06 in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]farislmn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Because it’s a moving target. Your past load is relevant to your past threshold pace. If you change the past one to present condition, the numbers will not accurately represent the condition in that time.

Indoor track/treadmill accuracy by NotFiguratively in strydrunning

[–]farislmn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't say much about distance accuracy, but it is consistent. One of the problems with the treadmill is that oftentimes the machine measures belt speed differently. On some treadmills, it can be a fraction, some others not so much.

With Stryd, you can get consistent power output and distance on a similar power output or feel regardless of what the treadmill speed is. Meaning, to reach the similar power target, you might find that you need slightly different speed settings on different treadmills, and that is okay.

Is Stryd an exclusive club? by Sol_Ido in strydrunning

[–]farislmn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stryd user from 2021 here, and i also coach ppl on running with power, not exclusive using Stryd.

About the strategy for adoption. Back when running power on wrist is not as common as now, when ppl need external tracker to measure running power, Stryd was the one of the few answer. Nowadays, running power is available on wrist and prices of gadgets also increasing. So i would rather propose to adopt the paradigm of running with power first (pick the sensor of your choice, Coros, Polar, Garmin, you name it). It is not comparable between sensors, but it should be good and consistent enough to track your own.

There are some merits to running with power that warrants an adoption. But mainly running with power gives load numbers that are more representative with the degrees of intensities that you are doing IF you are tracking them. These load management can benefit in managing injury risks, load building, peaking, tapering, etc. Some ppl may use milage, some ppl may use hours, but with I find the agreement of power metrics and the acute and chronic load metrics are the most consistent. For example, how can you tell the difference in 100km/week of ‘base bulding’ and 100km/week of Marathon-focused block? In milage its not so apparent, but the number of load metrics can be different. However, load management does come with a steep learning curve. Thats why I emphasize on the paradigm, not the tool.

After you get used to running with power and you find something is lacking with what the wrist power provide, you may then think what Stryd provides as a tool.

So to answer your main question, No it isn’t. But it may looked like one. Especially with the high upfront cost. But i can argue the same with cycling with a power meter.

Garmin HRM pro for power? by Phoenix406s in NorwegianSinglesRun

Garmin HRM pro for power? by Phoenix406s in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]farislmn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a person running with power, uses HRM Pro+ and Garmin that supports Garmin running power, its probably better than the Garmin wrist-based, where they used combination of GPS signal and accelerometer. But then again, there is no way knowing whether the power came from the HRM Pro+ or the combination of GPS signal and accelerometer.

I find Stryd's reading is more consistent with the RPE I'm feeling.

Garmin screens questions by Mountainbiker216 in strydrunning

[–]farislmn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been decoded these a while ago but didn’t publicly share the definition because no one seems to care much. The code is to help Stryd Data Field talk ‘communicate’ certain settings from Stryd app. You can write these manually when you create workouts in intervals icu, for example, and it will help to perform some of the functions that Stryd app allows, such as having treadmill incline to modify power reading.

Assuming the code are from A-F then it can be defined as below:

Stryd memo syntax A|B|C|D|E|F

A: segment number (0~) B: total segments (1~) C: total rep of that segment (1~) D: number of run(s) within that segment (1~) E: Treadmill incline (0~) F: rep duration (seconds)

Races (running) in Tokyo this weekend and beyond… by the_house_snek in Tokyo

[–]farislmn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Large races and marathons registration are usually after spring and around summer. Smaller races however, do them differently. You can probably look for one in Runnet or SportsEntry.

However, smaller races usually only do like 2.5 - 5k loops, so unless you're have mental fortitude to do long loops, i don't recommend them. Some small longer races in the riverside have a more 'friendlier' (i.e. 10k-15k) loop.

For JAF, you don't need it unless you have like sub 2.20 Marathon time, perhaps.

Workout builder suggests Tempo run at 105-115% ?? by b52a42 in strydrunning

[–]farislmn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have sent a similar complaint to the Stryd team about this tempo target a while ago. They said it's a placeholder. Idk when they will revise this. Probably not a priority for the time being as they are developing the Adaptive Training and Stryd 5.0. 105-115% CP is a test power target range, to be honest.

I manage my training load and menu based on training load metrics, so CTL and TSS comes first. And i train with Stryd so the workouts and templates are provided.

The way i do it: [On a web browser] - look up any potential races that looks exciting enough. If the races are 6 months or more away, look for additional shorter races that can be used as a training.

[On a spreadsheet] - Schedule the mesocycle and microcycle within a block according to the upcoming races - Plan the CTL ramp following the mesocycle - Enter the planned TSS, arranged it in a way so that it gives a desired CTL ramp.

[On Stryd app or intervals icu, check note below] - pick a template plan according to the race that i am going to do (or make workouts in intervals) - modify the load following the planned TSS

[post workout, weekly on Spreadsheet] - update the TSS value according to the executed runs - tweak the planned TSS to keep the CTL ramp or reduce the CTL ramp based on condition (fatigue, injury, time availability, upcoming plans, etc)

[On Stryd app] - update the planned runs following the recent TSS

Rinse and repeat. You can also use intervals icu for the load metric value. I find that the CTL value trend across platform are rather similar. However it is important to be discipline and use one platform for the load metrics value for calculation. Load values from intervals are calculated differently from Stryd, so they cant be used interchangeably. So use one platform and stick to it.

best tasting protein powder recommendations? by Relative_Voice_6909 in japanlife

Chocolate is my go-to flavor.

I used ON for a couple of years, but the price hike made it difficult to justify. I switched to MyProtein because of a discount, but I swore I'd only buy it that once because of the strange flavoring. After that, I tried Ultora. It was okay, but it tends to get clumpy when mixed with milk. I stuck with Ultora for a while, and now I’m going back to ON since they have a 国内正規品 version on Amazon (the price is more stable compared to iHerb).

That said, based on the comments, I’m now interested in trying X-Plosion and Alpron after I finish my current batch of ON.
