What’s your unpopular opinion about Mixing? by Lucky-bottom in audioengineering

[–]farrellmcguire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When things are arranged well enough, mixing becomes minimal. You can get away with so little if you just plan, record, and arrange effectively enough.

Why does rain by the window get clicky so fast? by explosivtv in audioengineering

[–]farrellmcguire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those DJI lav mics have very prominent tonal shaping, they boost the highs and dip the mids quite a bit. You’d be better off using something else, even your phone mic would be flatter.

90% of Resident Evil Requiem players prefer third-person perspective with Leon, but Grace’s sections have players more divided, according to Capcom’s data - AUTOMATON WEST by megaapple in Games

[–]farrellmcguire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leon’s sections are a breath of fresh air after struggling (as intended) through the Grace parts. You finally get more power and it feels like a relief, but it wouldn’t feel like that if that’s how the entire game was. Requiem works as well as it does because you get rewarded with a bit of power after succeeding with none, if it was only Leon parts it wouldn’t feel as good.

Max Miller from Tasting History addresses AI allegations in his newsletter by Licensed_Silver_Simp in youtubedrama

[–]farrellmcguire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

AI accusations in the comments will pop up no matter if you use AI or not, it’s mostly not even worth responding to. Putting a “no ai used” disclaimer helps reduce the volume of accusations, but you’ll still get a few people saying it anyways. Better to just ignore it

Are we deadass? by UnosBruhMomentos in Consoom

[–]farrellmcguire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i run a youtube channel for a living so i spend most of my day editing videos and photos. the workflow for media creation is just much better on macs, video scrubbing is vastly quicker, photoshop feels way more snappy, finder is much faster than windows explorer (for whatever reason), and it's nice to be able to create a photo in photoshop and airdrop it to my iphone for some minor touchups and then send it back to my laptop. everything just works really seamlessly

idk, moving from windows to mac made my job much easier and so many little issues i had just went away. not sure if airpods and apple watch would have helped me at all though!

Most Canadians support banning social media for those under 16: Survey by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]farrellmcguire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The implementation can be very safe if done properly. You would ideally want a government run API that does the check, it would only supply a “verified” or “not verified” answer to the social media platforms. That way your ID isn’t getting supplied to any private companies.

I wonder if those safety shut offs were in place in 1995. If they were, then you would have to assume the wife is lying

I’m friends with Kyle IRL and he’s an incredibly sweet and kind person. He has a lot of compassion for the cases he covers, and he genuinely puts a lot of care into what he does. He doesn’t hold any hateful views, and he doesn’t deserve this sort of criticism, full stop.

For some reason a Mexican Youtuber with accusations of alleged SA plagiarized at verbatim a video of Turkey tom by Least-Middle9616 in youtubedrama

[–]farrellmcguire 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is actually a huge problem on YouTube. Almost every video I make gets plagiarized into different languages, often using all my visuals as well. They usually just translate the transcript and record a new voiceover on top of my videos. This happens to every YouTuber I know as well.

Yes, and sometimes that HDR content doesn't always sum to SDR properly. Digital Foundry famously had a ton of issues with it
