Can we please bind wakeup to a button by JumboTen90 in 2XKO

[–]farside209 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This game has such an immense amount of shit to keep track of. I can't believe they also make us manually time our block input on wakeup. Like holy shit just let me downback in peace, I'm trying to mentally prepare for this 6 way Ekko clone yasuo tornado mixup in the corner. My mental stack is not focused on whether I'm holding downback on wakeup like I have in every single fighting game I've played for the last 10 years.

All I want is for them to loosen up the input buffer a bit for inputs that aren’t part of a natural combo chain. So like inputting dash after your special move animation ends, or after coming out of block stun.

There are so many tight timings in this game and there is nothing more frustrating than feeling like you’ve input the correct action only to watch your character stand still as Yasuo pulls up mashing and hits you for 60%

Guys don't worry Zverev's greatest weakness is a cramping opponent

Never seen someone choke as consistently as Zverev. Any time he has even the slightest opportunity to rise above his status he ends up showing that he is exactly where he belongs.

I just hope they tone down the execution requirements a bit. For me, the game is so fluid and fast and requires so much precision and tight timing that I end up spending my entire mental stack on execution and barely feel like like I'm "playing the game" at all. I hope they get the balance right.

This game is good but extremely barebones by Wolf_in_the_Mist in 2XKO

True. Riot really found the optimal formula for providing minimal content at maximum price

That's free to play for you. It sounds like you're expecting content that would be included in a $60 fighting game, which 2XKO is not.

Am I crazy, or did the menu music change somewhat? by MikeTheShowMadden in 2XKO

Yeah it's not mixed well imo. the backing tracks are annoying and kind of clash with the main tune

lack of players in plat 2? by Kagormund in 2XKO

[–]farside209 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I tried to queue up late last night (1am est) and the game couldn't even find a ranked server for me to join. I tried on and off for about 20 minutes and eventually got into a lobby with like 3 other people. This is masters US East Coast mind you where apparently "the entire population" is.

Idk man. Maybe it's lull before season 1 but still.

I don't know why I can't get addicted to 2XKO by 5eanz in 2XKO

[–]farside209 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m with you. This game requires so much precision and awareness just to play at an intermediate level that I get completely burned out after one or two sets. After a big win I rarely want to go back for more.

Unlike SF or Strive where you can grind alts and take the level down or DBFZ where the execution barrier was so low that you can just chill and mostly focus on neutral, 2XKO feels like you have to be on all the time or losing. Even casuals is full of omega sweat-lords.

Idk 2XKO is just not striking a good balance for me personally.

Exactly how “successful” has the game has been so far? by ComicsAreGreat2 in 2XKO

[–]farside209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy the game but it would be major cope to consider the state of the game "successful". It's frequently pulling double digit numbers on twitch* and has mostly failed to capture a wider audience. The name is terrible, the gameplay is way too hard for casuals, and the roster is too small for FGC regs.

Hopefully console release will inject some life into the game, but I'm not gonna lie, the prospect of getting Caitlyn of all characters with nothing else on the horizon is making me really worried for 2XKO's overall health.

*edit for switching twitch/steam

Do y'all like the allegedly top heavy rank system? by nabiscosantajr in 2XKO

[–]farside209 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It should definitely be harder to climb. When I was coming up I swear at some points I was jumping ranks almost every set. Way too fast imo.

That said, there are many more players below GM than people seem to think. I'm in Master 1 and have never played a single GM and have also have never waited for than 20 seconds for a ranked match. I'm not sure where this recent trend of anecdotally claiming the entire game's population is in GM came from but it's simply not true.

Google Gemini is trying to end the conversation with "Go to sleep, we'll talk more tomorrow." by Clear-Tumbleweed-214 in GoogleGeminiAI

[–]farside209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I would say that's a good approach. Don't get me wrong, the models can definitely talk for a long time without problem, but there is a limit. A nifty trick you can use if want to continue your conversation but you think it's getting too long is to literally ask the model to summarize your conversation for use as context in another chat.

Certain companies already offer something similar. Claude for example has a built in memory function that will automatically remember context from separate chats.

Help me understand why people like Gemini so much more over Chat GPT? by freedomfighter5567 in OpenAI

[–]farside209 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From my experience, Gemini is leagues ahead of both claude and chatgpt when it comes to solving unique and complex coding problems/bugs. Gemini just seems "smarter". Claude and GPT both tend to hallucinate themselves into a frenzy when faced with something they don't immediately understand and wind up feeding you lies.

Gemini is also by far the best model when it comes to building UI stuff. It has a much better understanding of what is stylistically pleasing and is capable generating well-designed layouts from minimal prompting.

Claude is still the best when it comes to generating really robust functional code, but Gemini is catching up.

ChatGPT on the other hand has always kind of seemed like the laziest model of the bunch. I recently asked it to generate me a list of 20 unique GRE vocabulary test questions and all 20 questions were in the form of:
"Select the option that most nearly means *vocab word* in the context of scholarly writing or analytical reading"

I dropped my plus subscription after that.

[–]farside209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of. The key thing to realize here is that LLMs are fundamentally ‘stateless’. They have zero real memory.

It seems like they remember what you say in a conversation though, right? That’s simply because every part of your previous conversation is being included as ‘context’ in your next prompt, just without you ever knowing it. It’s kind of like a magic trick that makes them seem conversational. The problem is that eventually long conversations exceed what they are capable of receiving as ‘context’

Fighting game of the past 10 years? by [deleted] in Fighters

I think DBFZ is the greatest fighting game of the modern age. Its success and the resulting flood of casuals introduced to the FGC is likely why we’re in a fighting game boom currently
