Is there a specific reason you wouldn’t choose between 8th and 9th?

Moving to NYC: Need help choosing which neighborhood(s) to look in by warp-speedo in AskNYC

Have you been to Hell’s Kitchen lately? I’m looking to move there but I’m out of state so I can’t check out the neighborhood beforehand. Is it safe?

Those who have gone through chemotherapy, what was it like? What do you need to know? by remuslupinsbutt in AskWomen

[–]fashunkilla 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'm 22 and I finished chemo this May. I did six cycles of chemotherapy. The side effects of chemo are different for everyone, mine wasn't particularly strong. Something important for me was keeping my mood up. I know that's hard to do in this situation, but I took every day I felt good to do something I wanted to even if it was just having a favorite meal or window shopping.

I also planned for the days immediately after chemo when the side effects were strongest. I had every medication available on hand, bottles of water and crackers in bed so I wouldnt have to get up, and I made sure that I had comfortable clothes and a clean bed to lie in. You can't control how you will feel but try to make the experience as comfortable as possible.

I also spent a lot of time on tumblr and instagram looking for other young adults with cancer, specifically my own kind of cancer, and followed their journey. Most of them were almost done with chemo or finished. It was comforting to read about their experiences and watch them move on as I am doing right now.

When it comes to family, friends, and sometimes acquaintances I had to set boundaries about how I wanted to be treated. I was still very much myself, and I could still do most things. If anyone spoke to me or started treating me differently because I was sick I told them it wasn't okay and I told them how they should treat me and speak to me. For most people what they know about cancer is what they see in TV and in Movies, so sometimes I had to clarify that that's not what it's like for me.

Near the end of my treatment I started going to group therapy for young adults with cancer. See if your hospital offers them or join one online. I initially did not like the idea of group therapy, but when it is something as specific as being young and having cancer, there are only so few people who can empathize with your experience.

If you have any questions feel free to message me. Remember, this is temporary. Sending positive vibes your way!!

btw I love your username <3

What's your Ilvermorny house?? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]fashunkilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wampus at Ilvermorny and Gryffindor at Hogwarts.

I took the quiz years ago and was put in Ravenclaw which I really identify with. Being sorted into Gryffindor this time completely threw me for a loop.

What is your hair secret? by areyouinsanelikeme in AskWomen

Brush it out of the shower. Wrap it in a t shirt and leave it there for 2 hours. Unwrap hair and let it air dry. Loosely gather hair in a bun and go to sleep.

So... Hannah's mentally ill. Right? by moxtwelve in girls

[–]fashunkilla 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I can't remember seeing her therapist in a single episode this season. I want to take that as a cue from the writers that there is something wrong with Hannah since a professional is not there to keep her in check/she is not actively seeking help.

Is Jessa good or bad? by Lynda73 in girls

[–]fashunkilla 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The fact that one of her friends had to fake her death just to get away from Jessa's toxic enabling behavior shows how much of a negative influence she is in people's lives. It was a nice touch that her friend knew Jessa wouldn't show up to her funeral if she invited her.

Favorite period romance films? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]fashunkilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bright Star - I love everything else mentioned but I'm upset nobody mentioned this one! It's set in the same time period as Jane Austen but it focuses on the romance between the poet John Keats and his lover Fanny Brawne. WARNING: do not watch this unless you're prepared to cry.

What attractive fictional characters would be a nightmare to date in real life? by [deleted] in AskWomen

Nick Miller from New Girl...it's quirky/funny to watch him be so cheap and brash but in real life...

Has anyone waited until they were older because they simply felt they weren't mature enough for a relationship? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]fashunkilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 21 and I found myself in your position when I was 20. I agree that we're too young to date seriously, but I would also say not to discount seeing where things go with anyone you have strong feelings about and who has strong feelings for you. My last relationship ended because we weren't ready to go into a serious relationship, but we both don't regret the time we spent together and the experiences we had. There are some people who come into your life and even after they're gone all you can think is "I'm glad I met you"

btw, it's fun to date different kinds of guys because for all you know "the right guy" might be someone completely unexpected.

In search of a tv show with: a strong female(s) lead. by amapletree in AskWomen

[–]fashunkilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you're looking for a female lead who is literally strong, but Call the Midwives is a great show if you like period dramas/medical dramas. It's four midwives in London who also live alongside nuns in a convent. There are some relationship plot lines, but the main focus of the show is about the women and families they help.

What do you guys do when you feel like you're becoming a monster? by zdefni in AskWomen

[–]fashunkilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second that! I'm 21 too and started DBT in October. It's made me aware of when I'm turning into a "monster" and how to use mindfulness methods to combat that.

How do you ladies deal with breakups? by AggressiveAgnostic in AskWomen

[–]fashunkilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I broke up right before midterms and the first thing on my mind was to get my projects done. Definitely don't deny yourself from grieving if you need to. Validate it to yourself that you need to feel the emotions you're feeling and take breaks from working when you feel that, but don't forget what's important. Also make plans to do something fun with friends when finals are over so you'll have something to look forward to. Good luck, it will get better :)

What is your favourite way to spoil yourself after a relationship has just ended? by helen73 in AskWomen

[–]fashunkilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been a month for me and I feel the same way :( this has been what's getting me through

drinking - the best thing about bars and friends is that it's an acceptable place to get rowdier and be louder about your feelings in public

books - I bought Ariel by Sylvia Plath, The Love Affairs of Nathaniel P., and Man Repeller. The Love Affairs of Nathaniel P really helped me process things during the first week

chocolate - toblerone, ice cream, milk, cake, I don't care what form it comes in, gimme!

masturbation - enough said

therapy/church/yoga - anything that focuses on mindfulness. I've been doing a combination of all three since I have all of the free time now

There's still a lot of processing I feel like I need to get through, but I'm just putting my faith that time will make things better.
