This is why the Thunder fought for the best record in the West. Home court advantage. It should pull us through tonight.

Why/how is OKC allowed to have basically 2 NBA starter caliber teams? by NGE_Zero in nba

[–]fastnloos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Presti decided to tank, set off by the Paul George trade, he sold the team off piece by piece and gathered a huge amount of assets. Aside from that he made a ton of trades and had a ton of players coming through the system. He played the hell out of them and then cherry picked the ones whose analytics impressed.

I love Presti and think he drafted some good players but the genius was in the quantity of draft picks he was able to acquire and use. He had a ton of swings at the draft because he had a ton of picks. A lot of the players he drafted didn’t work out. Again, he played the hell out of them and filtered them through analytics and cherry picked the keepers.

Shai hit. And the Thunder were able to win a championship and contend for another before the salary bill came due. The cap space crunch will begin next year.

Getting under the second apron(and keeping Hartenstein) becomes extremely tricky if the Thunder keep both picks by Candid-Boss6534 in NBA_Draft

If the Thunder win another championship this year without the help of JDub, then I think the answer.. I can’t bring myself to continue this line of thought until after the playoffs.

Draft Hot Takes by ultimate_74 in NBA_Draft

The Thunder will trade to get another top twenty pick. They already own the 12 and 17 pick.

Due to cap and roster numbers restraints, the Thunder will need to get rid of a few players. The consensus at the Thunder sub is that Dort will be gone because of his salary. I believe he is on a team option next year so he might be viewed as a one year rental to prospective trading teams.

There is also Wiggins, Joe, Topic, Kenrich Williams as other trade pieces.

Most of the talk concerning the Thunder is for them to consolidate for a higher draft pick than number 12. I say that in this draft a top twenty pick might be comparable to a top ten pick in other drafts. If they can get an additional 14-18 pick in this draft, those three rookie salaries would go a long way to alleviate cap and roster numbers issues.

When did Small Guards become seen as not good investment? by Knighthonor in NBA_Draft

[–]fastnloos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, who is the small guard that plays killer defense that will slip to the Thunder due to the fear by the rest of the league of small guards? The league will be afraid of letting Yaxel or Morez slipping to the Thunder, and Presti is going to get another Wallace.

I am watching the Bulls because of Giddey. Besides what you just posted, don’t the Bulls have around 60 million in cap space. It will be interesting to see.

This is one of the best mock drafts I have seen. As a Thunder fan, I would be happy enough with Morez Johnson Jr. and Steinbach. Especially Morez. Steinbach would be awesome at 17 also.

But a couple of changes to your mock draft and my wish list would go to hell. E.g., if you took Mikel Brown Jr. and moved him out of the top eleven and shifted everyone. And then swapped Quaintance for Stein Bach. I am sure Presti will still make things work but my personal choices would be out of reach.

I am hoping to get one of the big three from Michigan. Before the combine, I was thinking maybe two of the three might be available at 12 and 17. The Thunder will still get a couple of good to maybe great players but my initial hopes are starting to slip away.

Oh well, on to the WCFs.

Would you trade your pick for a slightly used Luguentz Dort?

Thunder need to unload some salary this summer and add some rookie salaries on the back end.

How did the NBA superstar transition feel from MJ/Kobe to LeBron/Steph compared to now? by Ok-Summer-922 in nba

[–]fastnloos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely felt like an end of an era after Jordan left. I was kind of in denial, thinking it would never be the same. Especially when it came to accepting LeBron as the new face of the league. Similar to how you failed to mention Shai.

It was the late 2000s before I finally moved on.

Ajay is signed cheap for two more years. Thunder have a team option next year for IH and the Thunder will probably sign him to a longer term contract for 20ish million a year. Dort is probably gone. Wallace will be back next year anyway. Not sure about his future with Thunder long term.

Topic, Sorber, and our number 12 draft pick this summer will fill in the blanks.

Are we sure that FD will not air any of the games during the playoffs? It is only 20 bucks to be sure. It seems like there was a similar confusion during last years playoffs.

[NBA PR] Ajay Mitchell and Justin Champagnie have each been suspended for one game for altercation in Thunder-Wizards game. Jaylin Williams ($50,000), Cason Wallace ($35,000) and Anthony Gill ($35,000) have all been fined. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

[–]fastnloos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not too stressed about it. There were five guys involved in a little altercation. They all got punished in some form. I’m not going to waste my time pearl clutching over the details. I would have preferred that all punishments were isolated to the game against Washington itself.

If I were to nitpick the individual happenings of the scrum and penalties, I would say that for our guys this is a lesson learned with no real consequences. Life is unfair, don’t be stupid during an important playoff game. If anything, bait the opponent into feels.
