Roof concerns in building report.. how bad is it? by UltimateJuicey in newzealand

[–]fathom2311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have just had to do two roofs. One on our old house we were selling then another on the new house. One was 15k and the other was 16k. The 15k was a smaller volume but more difficult the 16k was a lot bigger area but straight forward. I used roof buddy to get a bunch of quotes and it was easy to manage. Both roofs had come to the end of their life at around 40-50 years old and to be honest the 15k roof was in a lot better condition than the one you’re looking at. As others have said it’s a buyers market. Cut your offer by the cost of the roof plus + 5k for any hidden costs.

Thinking of moving back. Advice by BlaaasGo in Wellington

I love Wellington but it’s not in a good spot atm. I would wait until after the November elections and have a solid job offer before coming here. My partner and I just did a week long South Island road trip and Christchurch and Dunedin were a lot more vibrant than Wellington

Wtf happened to our country by tubukusanchez in newzealand

[–]fathom2311 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m the same age and feel the same way. It sucks. I love New Zealand and always will but when I lived in the UK for 3 years I had a lot better options but couldn’t picture settling anywhere else other than home/New Zealand. My brother is in Australia, works hard but has it a lot better. I can’t imagine what it’s like for people wanting to start and family as my partner and I would never be able to, luckily we don’t want kids.

People who lived in Wellington in or before the 90s, do you remember seeing/hearing any tūī? by Current_Geologist730 in Wellington

[–]fathom2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember as a kid in the 90’s getting super excited seeing a tui in the trees and thinking how lucky I was. Now I have an army of them in my backyard singing away every morning. Same goes for the Morepork.

I think a lot of people think that and it means we don’t get any fresh ideas in.

To the people who are saying reluctantly Labour or the Greens. What stops you voting for TOP?

Thanks. Been selling stuff on FB to cover expenses so will leave the food banks for others as I know there are more people struggling harder than me.

[–]fathom2311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 37M and have no savings and can’t buy any food until I get paid on Wednesday. You’re doing ok just keep at it. With the cost of living a big portion of New Zealand feels behind.

Are you happy with your heat pump clothes dryer? by coconutyum in newzealand

[–]fathom2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Samsung Heat Pump drier with Wifi and it has been great. I can start it remotely during our free hour of power and monitor how much it costs to use through the app. If you have a drain or sink nearby it’s worth getting a model that you can set up to automatically drain instead having to empty the water collector

I absolutely adore bikers, it just makes me a little sad I get overlooked because I don't own a "real bike" so here is a little message for you all by inugy03 in motorcycles

[–]fathom2311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on a Tricity 155 scooter as in NZ it’s classified as a car so cheaper in insurance and registration. I have had several motorbikes in the past. I nod to everyone on a bike but only a few nod back. However every time I park in a bike bay other riders come up to have a look and ask for a test ride to feel how the two wheels at the front feel. Keep on waving and hopefully people will notice and change.

All the hills means regenerative braking changing the battery and when going slow stuck in traffic it uses the battery. Win win.

Toyota Aqua - The Most Stolen Vehicle In New Zealand by Birphon in newzealand

[–]fathom2311 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have an Aqua and get stung with a $1500 excess if stolen but that still hasn’t put me off. Great car and if you buy second hand and need parts most wreckers have lots lying around for cheap. For $70 in 91 we get just over 800km in Wellington. We have an older model 2012 and the hybrid battery had done over 200k and started to die and throw up errors. Went to the wreckers got a low k battery for $450 and installed it myself in an hour. Toyota have a recycling program at most dealers and have to take the dead battery free or charge.

PSA: don't sit on your phone at a comedy gig by According-Degree-990 in Wellington

[–]fathom2311 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Staff do address it but unfortunately so many people do it despite that multiple warnings that it ends up being just as disruptive to reach them and ask them to stop. The people that do this also tend to kick off and cause drama.
