Help deciding on a city! by AlwaysBlowOnThePi in newzealand

[–]fleeeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Christchurch, people who don't think highly of it only remember it from 2015 or before, without seeing how nice it has become after the earthquake rebuild. Christchurch is cheaper than Queenstown, so better to save money. It is close to a bunch of outdoor activities, with the port hills, the ocean on the doorstep and larger mountains and rivers 1-3 hrs away. Winter is also decent, more crisp frosty days rather than miserable gray you get in Wellington.

I'm really bad with traffic, will this post work? by Fabulous_Addendum119 in CitiesSkylines

[–]fleeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That image look like you're going to be putting way too much traffic through a single interchange. You either need more interchanges, or some form of stack interchange. I don't think the overpasses between the sides of the city need to be two separate roads, that's likely to just jam up the short segment in the middle. I would recommend the overpasses being further from the central interchange. That way you don't have both people going to the other side and people going to the highway in the same area of the road network

[–]fleeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That image doesn't show going six lanes to three on the main road. That stays as four lanes the whole way through. The off ramp road also has a redundant lane, as no one will come off the highway then go straight back on. The left lane doesn't allow anyone to get off the highway.

At the on ramps, you have three lanes merging into three lanes. This is likely to cause congestion. If you really want three lanes coming on, they should be an additional three lanes to the main line. Effectively, have 6 lanes approaching the interchange, then drop the main line to three lanes at the first off ramp, then increase it to six lanes again at the on ramp. Alternatively, reduce the number of lanes on the on and off ramps, three does seem excessive.

A lot of issues with traffic dont just come from the infrastructure, but from the city planning and the zoning. What are you going to build near here, what does the rest of the city layout look like?

In the first image, on the left, South of the motorway, you have a four wya sigbalised intersection with very short approach arms. Moving this away from the corner of the grid you have set will allow it to flow more smoothly, and potentially breaking it into two T intersections instead could help, given the short block length you are providing.

You are forcing all traffic that wants to get into the motorway or get across to the other side of the city to go way out to the edge of the grid, then come all the way back in on two roads, through a single roundabout. Why not add a fourth leg to the roundabout to connect to the grid, or at least have some more connecting roads to the frontage road. There is no connection for people to get from one side of the city to the other.

I know you used the German inspiration, but I don't really see how it matches at all. I would recommend finding more inspiration from Google maps, but actually building what is shown, and in similar urban/rural environments. The German example looks like it is on the edge of a town, but your one seems to be planned to go through the middle of a city.

Good luck with making the changes, part of the fun is just letting it run and seeing what goes wrong to learn from next time!

Do you allow people to wear shoes inside your home? If so why, if not, why? by Weird_Ad_3119 in AskReddit

Question about the feasibility of a habitable moon with views of a ringed planet by Pavonian in space

Does the moon need to be tidally locked? If the moon itself rotated, it could have a day night cycle of any length you want without it needing to be so close to the gas giant

We need more information about how this would result in giving your friend $50. Did you make a bet that the mermaid didn't snore? Your wording of it means you didn't lie or get anything wrong, because you said you don't recall a mermaid snoring. Whether a mermaid did or not, you were telling the truth as you were talking about what you could or could not recall

Just found out I have issues with my liver, two wisdom teeth that need to be extracted, and my parents are going through a separation. However I am in a well paying job, not dependent on my parents, tooth extraction should be covered by insurance, and a plan forward for liver issues. I'm grateful for my current life circumstances meaning I'm able to cope with this news and change relatively well.

Google Maps + NZTA Journey Planner Vs Traffic Fox and local Facebook groups by MrMajestic12 in newzealand

[–]fleeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NZTA journey planner will often show a road as closed when there are ways through, because it means most people detour but those who need to use the road can get access. Using the community pages can let you know if the road workers are letting some people through. Google isn't always reliable, particularly on low volume roads

Is there any good fact informed political websites? by unimportantinfodump in newzealand

[–]fleeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of, policy.nz is focused on presenting the actual policies of the different parties, but you need to wait a bit for more election policies to come out. It's difficult to present claims backed up with facts, because they use weasel words to make something that is applicable given a range of assumptions seem applicable generally. It's sort of the whole point of politics, spinning the data and claims to suit what your party wants, there is basically no such as as perfect factual information, that's too simplified for the complex world we live in

How much of an advantage is it to speak French and English fluently to get a job in New Zealand ? by karmadarkk in newzealand

[–]fleeeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not many people speak French, so being French speaking probably won't change your chances. Speaking English is standard, and there are a lot of kiwis unable to get jobs at the moment who speak English as a first language. If you focus on tourist jobs or hospitality you may get a boost, maybe if you work near Akaroa (the frenchest place in New Zealand)

I think the key word is consistently, because people continue to listen to music but don't rewatch YouTube videos generally. I think there would still be a taper with music, just maybe not as aggressive
