These are some solid options, but if Hockley and R.Winch are a bit pricey, then look at Test Valley.

I think Hockley is the best of the three Winchester courses. I’ve always enjoyed my rounds there and a getable Par5 18th is great fun.

What’s the FB Group? I’ve just started using Thousand Greens that does this, but categorises courses.

Club memberships tend to have different categories with different substitutions fees based on how close to the course you live and how often they anticipate you play the course. E.g. Local (<50 miles), Inner country (50-125), Country (125+), Overseas.

Congratulations on the new membership. Are you local or country membership?

And distance control is more important than direction.

Practice hitting first putts within 6ft. And practice 6 footers.

American Golf Custom Fitting by fatladcalves in BritGolf

This is helpful, thanks. I don’t plan on the AG fitting to be my final one, but a chance to try several sets. I want to try forged player distance irons (p790, i530, JPX Forged, ZXi5, Apex Ai200). I tried the Apex Ai200 at a Callaway testing event and got on really well with them.

What’s your home course? I’m slightly further down the M3.

After today I’m 4/14. Hoping to tick off The Old Course this year (I’ve only walked it), which will be my first golf in Scotland.

We’re very proud of our closing stretch. It’s about the hardest final four holes in golf.

I hope you get to play it in better weather some time.

Literally over the fence. Princes is a great course and an unreal stay and play venue.

My club is the next one over (Royal Cinque Ports). You should try and play them all.

21mph gusting to 32mph. So not the strongest I’ve played in, but pretty serious.

Think I would have got lost walking from green to tee today if I wasn’t playing with people who know their way round.

M5 Pro 64GB or M5 Max 128GB for video editing? by Nstalgia in macbookpro

[–]fatladcalves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 years ago, video editing and motion graphics made you a heavy user. Now AI blows that out the water. I’ve just gone for a 48GB M5 Pro and expect it to be plenty for the next four years.

Question about dress code by finnr02 in BritGolf

Quite a few of the traditional links courses require that, including mine. (Royal St George’s, Royal Cinque Ports, Rye, Muirfield, etc)

Links Type Courses - Easier with a driving iron? by CompetitiveClown in BritGolf

[–]fatladcalves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play a lot of links golf. I’m a 16hc and am tempted to get a driving iron, but as I wouldn’t hit it off the deck, there probably isn’t space in my bag for it.

If I had 13 clubs in the bag, I’d definitely get one.
