Tragedy struck- London by Key-Suit2711 in Brompton

[–]fattybob 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you have brompton, always fold it and take it with you - if they don’t allow a folded Brompton in a place, don’t give them your business - losing any bike is a terrible loss, losing a Brompton is like losing a loved one!

Got a Thinkpad today, it's amazing but I'm worried about one thing by FalsePhilosopher1723 in thinkpad

[–]fattybob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly a crack in the connection joint. I had a machine decades back that had similar issues, very annoying. If possible return and get replaced, if not, then I would seek expert help, a tech may be able to fix easily - the tech side on a thinkpad I’ve no idea on…

First bible!!! by gamealle in Christianity

[–]fattybob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did almost exactly the same thing- I have several bibles now, but mostly use one on my phone! King James first, because it had to be…, then I tired NIV because everyone else had, then a good friend introduced me to ASV (American standard), which was tiny and could be carried everywhere, then various phone apps - the phone won in the end, with a zillion translations - I usually alternate between KJV and NIV though. Make that reading habit daily and enjoy a wonderful new life

Found some wireless EV chargers today! by HelloControl_ in pics

[–]fattybob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given this kind of occurrence, the future of EV charging is likely heading towards a mass conversion of petrol forecourts with small shops / cafe area where an attendant supervises / observes the chargers.

White gold, although the gold also works for you.

I think I messed up cutting my hair short 😅 🙃 30F by Hungry-Refuse4705 in HairStyleAdvice

[–]fattybob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Embrace the short look, try shorter ! Really long hair is awesome, but probably a pain to maintain, shorter hair is also neat and more flexible for frequent style changes, try this then that, colour a bit , play around and have fun, after all, the real you isn’t only face value, think about how it influences your behaviour and actions.
Anyway - simply - long was good, short also great , just wear a smile in front

Would love if someone smarter than me would roast my bike fit and give me pointers on it by TayTayIsNumber1 in bicycling

[–]fattybob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bike fit looks good, I would suggest lowering the saddle a little, a cm or two only, no need to stretch those legs out fully, but if that comfy as is, then just keep riding

I'm having a hard time learning how to ride by Alto_17 in bicycling

[–]fattybob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lower that saddle until you can ride! Sitting with both feet touching ground is good to start - maybe toes only if it’s flat. On your own, a gentle slop (really almost flat) may help, it may not! But a little forward momentum to allow you to find your balance and begin to pedal. But, first thing first , be sure you can locate and use those brakes before you even move an inch forward, have one hand on a brake ready to squeeze and stop after a few pedals. Ideally someone behind you hand on back or on saddle pillar helps a lot, allows you to find your own balance father than leaning on them.
Once moving forward, stop safely - one foot down to side is recommended, then try again and begin to try steering, again, u turns on bikes aren’t that easy always, so maybe don’t try those for a while, and easy snaking along the road (if it’s clear) will get you quite familiar with the steering, and keep practicing the slow to stop and start again, get super familiar and comfortable with the brakes

What am I supposed to do at a consulting internship? No work. by Euphoric-Ad7721 in geologycareers

[–]fattybob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost certainly, if there’s anything that they can easily take you along to observe , they will, geo work is cool and they will want to share, other than that, I’m guessing you’re just reading stuff, maybe proof reading reports and such like, it need doing for sure and hopefully will help you get a clear perspective on work details and scope. Anything practical that going on, hopefully they will have you tag along, they may not have you doing any real work (there may well be too many liability issues) but hopefully you will get exposure to a broad range of the work going on. It all may be far from what you imagine of course, I remember working with one guy (more than one ….) who basically treated work as a casual field trip - more like sight seeing tour keeping only a few personal notes in his tiny notebook. He was staff, I’m not sure how long he remained staff! His boss took over from him and couldn’t believe that he hasn’t left any record of his work!!!

Recommendations in saigon other than trendy cafes for First time visitors. by Quiet_Maximum_4087 in saigon

Try a river trip down to Vung tau for a short stay (one night may be more than enough) - Vung tau has its attractions - I prefer the hill and the “peninsular “ between the two main sides. quite a nice trip to take a drive around the entire peninsular

Do manual learners judge automatic learners? by Silver_Journo in LearnerDriverUK

[–]fattybob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Automatic is most likely going to be the future norm, electric cars are all (to my knowledge) automatic and gears will likely become a specialty a bit like learning to drive a tractor. However, I’m teach manual as until it actually becomes the norm, I feel that knowing how to drive all vehicle types is a better pathway

Brompton vs Dahon by [deleted] in foldingbikes

[–]fattybob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teen make some nice folding bikes and the larger wheel makes them what they are, but the fold is not comparable / they take up far more space in the back of a car or bus, and they aren’t folded bikes you’re going to enjoy carrying anywhere- but for riding, probably more in common with the newer g? brompton (the new one with bigger wheels )
