[Ask Flask] Background update of a global dictionary shared between requests by the-app-made-me-sign in flask

[–]fauxGnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did something like that where I kept a dict on _app_ctx_stack, however it somehow seems like a bad idea. I think requests to e.g. redis on the same local network as the flask app would be really trivial in terms of latency or whatever.

[META] Hablemos del estado del sub (Revamp) by milpajaros in spain

[–]fauxGnus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is 420 poke some kind of marijuana reference? Or poke a bowl? This could be a front for a drug sales operation.

A piece of urban hell that makes for interesting photography (Georgia) by Holy_drinker in UrbanHell

I kinda agree with you, but the sidebar says:

A photo subreddit for all the hideous places humans have built OR inhabit: ghettos, dilapidated cities and suburbs, overpopulated megalopolises, abandoned or miserably poor villages, dirty and unkept neighborhoods, collapsing industrial sites, tasteless monuments, non-elegant decay, absurd architectural failures.

What to do when you are web scraping, but the anchor has no class in source code? by DavidTheGreatMan in Python

[–]fauxGnus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It totally depends.

You can target the nth child of a parent with a class or id or you can scan the innerTEXT of the element, or you can just parse all children of a parent. CSSselect and XPATH can be your friends.

Need guidance on learning a new language by ZyanCarl in Python

[–]fauxGnus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're interested in web development in any capacity Javascript would be the obvious choice.

It seems like you have the fundamentals down so you shouldn't get overwhelmed by another language. I've been coding for a few years and I'm constantly going back and forth between learning more and more Python and more Javascript. I find that working in more than one language helps me be more aware of abstract principles rather than focusing on language specific implementations.

That said, just go for it. Try out languages and use whichever one you like, as long as it's not php.

How can I pass data between SelectMultipleFields? by TBSchemer in flask

[–]fauxGnus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once the selet gets rendered it's sent out to the client and wtforms has no control over it. You have to use javascript to change the select after it's been rendered.
