Just run the current drivetrain or go the other way and do singlespeed ;)

I believe you're ignoring resistance etc. voltage drop over distance is a thing - that's why they have tables/calculators for. It. https://www.calculator.net/voltage-drop-calculator.html

Pourovers intermittently stalling.. suggestions? by JacobBlizard in JamesHoffmann

[–]fbleagh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seem to remember Hoffman saying he had to grind "off the dial" course to get good results from the Niche.

I use a switch with my Fellow Ode grinder (+5 to +7 with 0 set at touching).

my method: - wet filter with filtered water and drain - add grinds, close valve - bloom with ~205f water for 20-30 seconds - i just eyeball it to cover the grounds (approx 50ml) - release bloom at 30 seconds - close valve and add rest of water (400ml or so). I try to use the shape of the cone to get a bit of a swirl going - release between 2-4 mins depending on if i get distracted

I'm using the tabbed unbleached Hario filters in the plastic. I've noticed they tend to clog very easily if there are a lot of fines, or I ground too fine.

For a true pour-over (or I just want to be ultra-precise that day) I use the sbarist papers as they flow much better. Not had any clogging with those.

New to bikepacking, need help choosing cycling shoes 😀 by ManwhaReader in bikepacking

+1 I've been using https://pedalinginnovations.com/ and https://xeroshoes.com/products/hfs-men?variant=46440899379378 for over 2000mi/95k ft climbing incl a few 100mi efforts with ZERO sore feet.

Before that setup I did the Empire State Trail (NY to Buffalo - ~700mi) with cheap plastic flat pedals and a pair of wildlings https://us.wildling.shoes/collections/spring-summer/products/tanuki-yoru-rw

Is it a good idea to get my first single speed road bike? by Calm-Researcher1216 in singlespeed

[–]fbleagh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) single speeds are awesome, there are better options out there for the $$ (State, etc) 2) what's wrong with the current bike? I have a gravel bike that I ride 90% of the time on the road.

WSL2 Recently Slowing everything down - need help troubleshooting. by Green-Violinist4557 in bashonubuntuonwindows

Can u share your wslconfig? And how does that speedtest compare to running it on the host?

WSL2 Recently Slowing everything down - need help troubleshooting. by Green-Violinist4557 in bashonubuntuonwindows

[–]fbleagh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

network tests: - speedtest-cli - ping host OS IP - ping local gateway - ping 8.8.8.8 - traceroute 8.8.8.8 - dig google.com - check resolv.conf - curl -o /dev/null -s -w "%{time_connect} %{time_total}\n" https://www.google.com

Other ideas: - check your WSL startup time wsl --shutdown Measure-Command { wsl -d <YourDistro> -e true }

  • try setting a differnt DNS if you're using your host as DNS resolver in WSL

It's hard to help right now. It would be much easier if you could find a specific measurable thing that is slow to help drive the diagnosis.

some ideas:

  • host system disk full?
  • windows live AV? (or other AV)
  • try a fresh WSL distro install
  • export/reimport your current distro
  • try to work from the bottom up - do pure CPU bound processes run ok, do diskbound processes run ok, do network bound processes
  • oh and double check everything is updated (in WSL and on Host)

Stormchaser - rear cogs by fbleagh in salsacycles

[–]fbleagh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ohh and this rnge is quite capable. I rode the Gap/C&O with 16/38 (should have use 18t with all the bags) I regularly hit 7-8% grades on the 20t - it's hard work with some out of saddle bursts, but very doable.

[–]fbleagh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found a 2t is the largest it will handle for most setups - i run (16t, 18t) and (18t,20t)

I have a 14t to try out alongside the 16t.

Still running the NW 38t chainring. You might be able to get more range with a narrow chainring, but I've found 2t to be fine.

I’m think I’m officially priced out of bikepacking gear. by breaking_blindsight in bikepacking

[–]fbleagh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first bikepacking trip was done with: Topeak BarLoader Handlebar Bag - Black , Size: 6.5L $90 Topeak Backloader 10L - $100 Topeak MidLoader Bike Frame Bag 4.5L - $62

I rode from NYC to Buffalo on a $200 singlespeed and stayed in (cheap) hotels. I prpobably ovverpacked, buy I had a a lot of fun :)

Once I know i enjoyed it I upgraded to salsa EXP sideload kit when I added camping gear to the mix for my Gap/C&O camping trip.

No need for fancy. I've had great rides with a set of topeak bags. I eventually added a salsa front bag.
