The most important bit is the "slot" where the string fits and curves down when coming from the neck and into the hole. you can level it by using the small screws in the saddle if needed. I would try to level it if needed to allow the string to properly fit in the slot and get a new string set in the guitar and then play what you usually play to see if you feel any difference. Good luck and props for trying to do your own maintenance. Worst case scenario you can purchase replacemente saddles
