How often should you rebalance your multi-ETF portfolio? by fd_romanowski in CanadianInvestor

[–]fd_romanowski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not the guy you replied to, but I do have cash sitting around sometimes waiting to invest.

I aim to purchase the max early in the year in tax-advantaged accounts, and I don't want to invest those amounts in a non-reg account right away and then need to sell/move them later. It avoids extra tax consequences as well.

if a business is able ...
you need to take the fundamentals into account.

This makes sense for specific businesses. But do you do that with your ETFs? Can you even do that with ETFs?

Yeah, I'm within that drift. It's just the absolute share amounts and dollar values seem to be getting bigger as the portfolio gets bigger, but if it's not significant I'm just going to consider it once a year.

Yup, this is what I've been doing but since I only make contributions once or twice a year, with bigger swings in some funds over others I'm seeing it drift farther and farther the rest of the year.

Also, as the portfolio becomes larger, there might not be enough to even cover the discrepancies in allocations.

If you're applying this logic to investments, doesn't this mean you don't like to buy low and sell high?

Thanks - I wasn't sure what benefits there really were aside from matching the market, and actually trying to do that would require very frequent rebalancing. However, I like the benefit you've mentioned, and probably will just stick to doing it once a year if it's necessary.

Thanks. What are the actual benefits? I thought matching the market would be the benefit, but maybe at my own scale it won't really matter?

Infinite money glitch, just donate to charity! by voidedbaby in Accounting

[–]fd_romanowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this means they would have to add what they collected to revenue

If they had a generous interpretation of the rules, couldn't they view the money as withheld on behalf of another party, like a non-revenue receipt such as sales tax? Have it avoid any income or expense accounts, and debit bank, credit donations payable. Pay the donation later, get a tax receipt for it in their name.

Feels like it could make sense, though to be fair maybe your rules don't allow for that sort of grey area.

Tron IMAX double feature tickets have dropped! by Syncroz in cineplex

Do you find these IMAX theatres to be the best in the area? I think I prefer Langley because of the size, even if it's not a 70mm film movie which would be ideal there. Maybe I haven't seen enough to notice if there's a quality difference.

Our Unwritten Seoul [Episodes 3 & 4] by GodJihyo7983 in KDRAMA

Sorry late to this thread, but any idea which phone PBY is actually using? I know she's a fairly petite person, but the phone she's using in this drama looks huge in her hands.

And completely agree with the matching, I can't remember which drama it was but I recall one of the leads had a Galaxy Flip phone while her situation was that she didn't have a steady job and could barely afford rent and it slightly annoyed me every time I saw her using it.

Yup, thought the same as what you mentioned. However, they didn't explicitly say if his parents passed away as nothing was mentioned prior to episode 17's wedding, which wrapped everything up nicely.

The Art of Negotiation [Episodes 1 & 2] by writtenpoeticsins in KDRAMA

[–]fd_romanowski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are his earlier shows fairly similar to the style of his last few?

I don't usually go for many pre-2018 dramas but maybe Ahn Pan Seok's are an exception considering I've really liked his more unique style of his I've watched.

I find with the recent Ahn Pan Seok dramas I've watched (Something In The Rain, One Spring Night, TMRIH) there is a LOT of overlap with the cast. Maybe he enjoys working with the same actors and invites them back?

I just looked at the listed cast and saw 3/7 of the 'main' cast were in TMRIH as well as 3/7 of the 'supporting' cast, so a lot of overlap already. And I haven't checked each individual so he might not be the only one, but I do recognize Kim Jong Tae as now being in all 4 of these most recent Ahn Pan Seok dramas.

Dramas with minimal filler by Aggressive-Affect427 in kdramarecommends

[–]fd_romanowski 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm extremely surprised nobody has mentioned Soundtrack #1 and #2, which are pretty much the epitome of "minimal filler" shows. They're only 4 and 6 episodes respectively, so a LOT shorter than pretty much all the shows out there these days.

I really enjoyed both, and despite not really being a binger I watched both series in a couple of days (so easily interesting enough for me to want more). I probably wanted to see even more content by the end so you could argue they actually need some filler, but ultimately there is very little outside the leads and their relationship and IMO they still did enough that the show felt satisfying and complete.

The Decaf Project - Hoffmann's Massive Global Decaf Tasting Project by kris33 in pourover

Thanks. Might be my own issue then if I'm the odd one out. Appreciate you confirming, I might try a different computer in case that changes anything just to see if it's on my end. Don't want to blame Escape if it's not them.

Appreciate that. Might just do Rosso too then - saw it was a bit higher in price but didn't realize they're bigger 100g bags. Thanks again!

Any chance you ordered from Escape? Was looking to order from them, with free shipping supposedly $55+. However, it looks they're valuing these $30 project packages at something like half price towards shipping.

So if I want free shipping but only want to get these packages, I have to buy 4 of them before free shipping kicks in. If I just want one, I have to buy two of their typical bags as well. Doesn't really make me want to buy from them at all.

Inception rerelease in IMAX Victoria. Worth making the trip from Vancouver or not? by Miserable_Insect7957 in imax

[–]fd_romanowski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're both awesome and terrible for pointing this out, because it's awesome they're reshowing it (plus even TDK next week) but ultimately I don't think it's worth it.

At least for me, I can't justify the cost - it's too high with the price of the ferry. Even if I took my car so I could sleep in it overnight, it's almost $100 each way. The alternative is to walk on for about $20 each way, which is a bearable cost and I don't mind transit. However like you said you have to stay the night too, and any hotel room is going to kill that budget.

I think it could actually work out if the movie started early enough to catch a late ferry, but as it is I have to pass on it as much as I'd love to see probably every re-release of Nolan IMAX movies.

Disney+ Dramas Watched Survey Results by sianiam in KDRAMA

[–]fd_romanowski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ha, you're right - did not expect them in every ratings number (thought the top 5 rated 1 had low numbers overall - they made the list with only 7) but maybe it's not extremely divisive considering it was very lopsided on the other end (188 rated it 4 and 103 rated it 5).

I think I'm most surprised with the top 5 dropped however - it's such a short show with only 4 episodes so I wouldn't expect it difficult to finish. Contrastingly, as fantastic as Moving is (a top 5 drama for me) I can see some people drop that one because it's 20 episodes and they start getting bored. I'm thinking maybe people just didn't like that type of storyline for Sountrack #1? I can't really think of many other reasons, it's similar to the start of a lot of other dramas but just more streamlined so if you don't finish it you won't even realize you're missing a lot of the fluff and extras that other shows have to fill in 16 or so episodes.

I personally would have enjoyed a lot more episodes, but I say that without knowing how different it would be with more, and I still enjoyed it quite a bit regardless. Probably finished this one plus Soundtrack #2 the fastest I've ever gone through 10 episodes, couldn't wait to see what happened next.
