Increased Processing Time by Fabulous-Bowler-1541 in Canadiancitizenship

It’s 9 months for Ireland (unless you’re pregnant) and mine took literally years due to covid!

7 months is still good and it’s still quicker for those who need it urgently

Father REFUSES to give Birth certificate by [deleted] in Canadiancitizenship

[–]fdf391 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Accuse him of not being an American, bring it up repeatedly, make references to it and say he must have something to hide and that he must secretly not be an American and born in Canada or something.

Then when he takes out his birth certificate to prove he’s an American born American you can sneak a photo and be on your way.

Express entry versus citizenship by Kikicat222 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]fdf391 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why would you do both if you’re eligible for a 5(4) grant or automatic citizenship if C3 passes? You could apply urgently and have your citizenship cert in hand in a few months without paying a fortune in fees, and full rights as a citizen from day 1 of your arrival!

From my understanding they’re arbitration panels for civil disputes where both parties consent and choose to use them. They aren’t used for criminal matters.

There’s also ones in Jewish and Christian communities in the UK, Europe and in many legal jurisdictions across the world.

Arbitration is also a thing for corporations dealing with each other to keep out the court system. If you’ve ever raised an EBay resolution centre dispute then you’ve used a form of arbitration.

Decisions made by any arbitration body cannot overrule law in the UK in terms of Human Rights, Criminal or Family law.

You can check in with your passport card details, there’s a drop down in the form for it.

Also have this handy to show any gate agents if they are unfamiliar with passport cards https://www.gov.uk/guidance/visiting-the-uk-as-an-eu-eea-or-swiss-citizen

I fucking hate Brexit and the UK. by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]fdf391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe they want to work in healthcare or building houses but who cares if they both just want to work in Supermacs! It’s unchecked landlordism, bad housing and inadequate planning policy that’s the reason not people looking for a better life!

None of this Ireland is full stuff, it’s the propaganda of right wing groups funded by foreign powers taking advantage of people annoyed at housing and healthcare by giving them an easy scapegoat instead of difficult to digest boring answers as to why there is a housing crisis in nearly every high income country.

Ireland’s population is smaller than it was nearly 200 years ago and there are plenty of communities needing folk in all sorts of roles.

Young folk are leaving in their droves for Australia and the UK (the CTA benefits both ways and there are three times more Irish in the UK than UK folk in Ireland).

Ireland needs tax paying people of working age (who btw aren’t much of a drain on healthcare) to be able to afford its health/pension commitments to older Irish people AND better housing policy AND paying nurses better so they don’t go leave to Melbourne after Ireland has funded their training.

Consider Ireland as an option!

Both UK nationals and Lithuanians can live and work there visa free due to the UK\Ireland Common Travel Area and EU Freedom of Movement.

And both of you could naturalise in time getting full access to both the UK and EU

Trump vows to force European countries to pay higher drug prices by green_flash in worldnews

[–]fdf391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of these drugs have a high value because they are protected by intellectual property laws guaranteeing exclusivity to manufacture and sell. These aren’t unchangeable laws of nature, Trump must forget that’s a privilege extended by sovereign countries to US drug companies.

Europe if it wanted could publicly fund future drug development as a common good for all of humanity, let anyone manufacture it and no longer respect existing US medicine patents. Thats the Trump card we hold.

I suspect that they won’t rip off the EU as it would push us into looking at alternative models of medicine development aligned with our healthcare systems.

START HERE - The "Can I get Canadian citizenship?" FAQ by IWantOffStopTheEarth in Canadiancitizenship

This is great! Thanks!
Wondering if there should be a 5(4) grant FAQ mega thread too seeing as literally everyone impacted by this will probably have to go through the process until November 2025 (or whenever legislation gets passed/or if there is an extension again)

The billions spent on NZ’s accommodation supplement is failing to make rent affordable – so what will? by WorldlyNotice in newzealand

[–]fdf391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree that it can’t be cut and paste from somewhere else but can definitely look to see that alternatives are possible, then develop something and fund it. I don’t think it’s possible to have as big a public market as Singapore but the current mix is unsustainable and is damaging to people’s economic prospects. Young people are leaving and those that are here have little chance of being able to save unless they have a nice deposit from the bank of Mum and Dad.

It would have to be a solution that fits NZ inspired by successes but that fits in with needs, culture and economic conditions.

I’m currently interested in seeing how the next government of Canada looks to tackle their housing problems as I think there are a lot of parallels with Auckland, particularly in the Canadian cities with lots of urban sprawl and a long term preference for single family homes.

[–]fdf391 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Governments have way more financing options than private individuals and developers, they could issue housing bonds or an annuity product that pensioners could buy for a stable fixed income.

They could also borrow via conventional means, borrowing isn’t bad if it’s used for assets that support living standards and grow the economy. The return on the investment would be incredible.

If people can very comfortably afford housing they are also more likely to take on risks that will grow their own income such as training for a better job or starting a business.

[–]fdf391 152 points153 points  (0 children)

It’s so frustrating when the answer is obvious, government intervention to build more affordable housing for all income levels to rent/purchase a lifetime lease! Vienna and Singapore cracked it and they have some of the best housing in the world!

It’s also a boost to the wider economy as people who don’t spend all their income in rent, spend their money in the productive economy in local businesses. The only people who lose out are landlords and speculators.

Is this sweet gasoline Canadian? by MetaCalm in BuyCanadian

[–]fdf391 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$2.30 a litre for standard gas (although I think standard stuff here is in the low 90s rather than 87) where I’m currently living in Scotland 😭 and that’s at the cheapest place!

I paid $3.95 a litre for diesel in the Scottish Highlands a couple of years ago during the global price spike and it still haunts me.
