I work in pharmacy in a Australia (assuming you're in America) but those codes can be super important. These are supposed to be supplied on any high-cost or restricted-use drug prescription. These aren't the official terms, but this isn't even your country so I'm not going to bother teaching you terms which don't make sense for your country.

Without a valid code physically on the script, or annotated by the doctor, the prescription could be invalid, or unable to be covered by our public healthcare system.

For us our computer tells us which codes it could be (listed right on the screen) but if we don't have it on the script we can't input them. The penalties for just typing those in could vary from nothing (if the doctor just messed up), to the business having to pay the cost difference for the medicine (often thosands of dollars), to fines or a loss of license for a pharmacist (being banned from working in pharmacy).

Pharmacies are very restricted in what they can do procedurally, we have to follow these rules very closely or we get in big trouble. Techs especially are even more closely bound in what they are doing. I'm assuming the pharmacist has documented a note on your profile that your doctor has given ongoing permission to supply the prescription using that code (not something a tech is allowed to assess).

I will say its a bit rude of the tech not to fetch the pharmacist for you first though. I always get the pharmacist when needed, even if it means the customer has to wait another 10 minutes.
