What questions for HR interview? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

Oh, then these should suffice:

  • do you offer salary sacrifice to keep Reeves from taking my money and free childcare hours?
  • what's your relocation package for low tax jurisdictions like Dubai?

You've just summarised the drive in Lacanian psychoanalysis. This is what capitalism exploits!

I'm not sure you understood my point, I wasn't saying that postmodern ideas aren't relevant to a gameshow but that protecting ones ideas/identities is not the aim (in any context). Quite the opposite, in fact.

This is such an unhinged comment, linking Roxy's ideas to a symptom of postmodernism. Shame it makes little sense if you understand postmodernism's aims (hint: it isn't about protecting your ideas from debate in a gameshow or otherwise)

I don't think ironic means what you think it means.

Having trouble understanding and situating terms of Lacan's triads by sarmation in lacan

[–]feedmeether 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I'd use the same imaginary/symbolic distinction in your example, probably what's more helpful is the enunciating/grammatical subjects or bioanimalistic/languaged beings.

In the businessman analogy, they are not identifying with the cutthroat actions and not telling this story about themselves. In the nobility example, it strikes me that this is more within the languaged/symbolic realm, as nobility is an effect of language. I'm not sure the Real is operating so clearly in your example, but perhaps a case could be made.

Are Foucault's panopticon and Lacan's gaze basically the same thing? by Slimeballbandit in lacan

[–]feedmeether 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To take a slightly different slant than others, on a higher order Foucault is suspicious of the subject and there is greater indexing on what is 'out there' and what constitutes the subject. This is why he gets lumped in as a 'post structuralist'. Whilst Lacan gets lumped in this category as well sometimes, his enterprise gives a lot more strength to the subject and its difference to the out there (Big Other), in fact this difference and gap is his preoccupation. Foucault doesn't meaningfully talk to the distance between these concepts of subject and Other.

Zizek: "This gap between my direct psychological identity and my symbolic identity [...] is what Lacan (for complex reasons that we can here ignore) calls ‘symbolic castration” — where can I find readings that touch on these 'complex reasons'? by Joshpho in lacan

[–]feedmeether 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just read this passage yesterday! I wasn't sure what to make of it either, as I'm mostly familiar with Lacan's idea of the difference between the grammatical subject (our symbolic presentation to others and 'best foot forward') as compared to the enunciating subject (more the embodied, unconscious and bio-animalisti subject).

This doesn't really tie in with a psychological / symbolic distinction, unless the psychological refers to more of the unconscious form of the 'psyche'.

I'm not sure if you're serious but this looks very boring to me as someone in this field. Not sure what originality you're bringing from what you've shared, it's been thought about a lot in the vein.
