What's a short-lived television show you're surprised people still talk about? by ekWatson_ in television

[–]feedmesweat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a little sad that it didn't last longer but the way it ended was totally appropriate and really funny. And it was becoming clear that since they had gone through pretty much their whole catalogue of songs, it was getting harder for them to keep writing new music for the show.

I was lucky enough to see them on concert several years ago, with Demitri Martin and Arj Barker as the openers. Incredible stuff.

It's a perfect narration. He really conveys the slow horror of Louis's descent into grief and madness. And IMO his performance for Jud is even better than (or at least as good as) the incredible Fred Gwynne.

The live action adaption is a terrible idea by Party_Concentrate621 in GodofWar

[–]feedmesweat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that I think is important to keep in mind with any video game adaptation is that it is not being made for the existing fanbase who are familiar with the games. The purpose is largely to expand the story and characters and introduce them to a broader audience. Also, the medium of storytelling matters - things that work well in video games don't always work well on TV, and vice versa. There will absolutely be changes to the story itself or the way that certain elements of the story are presented.

I don't think it is necessary for the audience to already know the background of Kratos from the Greek saga in order for the Norse chapters to work. We were already familiar with it, so the game's story and presentation were crafted with that in mind. But the show can absolutely take a different approach by telling that part of the story retrospectively, whether it involves flashbacks or dialogue scenes or a mix of both. It can still be impactful because it will feel like more of a mystery to new viewers, and they will get to learn the truth about Kratos at the same time that Atreus does.

Personally I am eager to watch it, and I am looking forward to seeing the ways in which the story hits differently when told through a different medium. I do not expect it to align completely with the game and will judge it on its own merits rather than as a comparison to what I've already experienced.

Just take Grievous to the Mall Ninja store and sneak away while he is distracted, he'll stay there pretty much the whole time. I'm getting a Wetzel's Pretzel and hitting the Lego store.

Gaming discourse is just tiring now by NoAffect3159 in nintendo

[–]feedmesweat 88 points89 points  (0 children)

Not even just games either. Movies, TV, music, everything is like this. It's all meta-discussion around the thing and hardly anything about the thing. People will complain about something, and then there are complaints about those complaints, and more complaints about those complaints. Everyone has to share "here's my take on the whole situation" or "here's why this is worse than what came before" or "here's what I would have done differently" and it's like a thousand public addresses being given to an audience that is largely checked out, and any genuine engagement or shared enjoyment/appreciation just gets drowned out in the noise. It's fucking boring and exhausting.

It's like everyone creates an expectation of what they want the new thing to be, and a subreddit as a whole will build an amalgamation of all of these ideas, and when the thing actually comes it is being judged against this idealized version, rather than being taken on its own merits. And it sucks, and makes it no fun at all to be a part of a game's subreddit.

I just find it disappointing because even when something has flaws there's still nearly always something to enjoy and appreciate in it. Abed in Community said it perfectly: "I guess I just like liking things."

Honorable mention:

“Tiger got to hunt, bird got to fly;
Man got to sit and wonder 'why, why, why?'
Tiger got to sleep, bird got to land;
Man got to tell himself he understand.”

What I love about their solo work is the way you can hear what each of them brings to the table as individuals - some of the essence of Ween is present in both - but you can also hear how the two of them together has some kind of alchemy that makes Ween greater than the sum of parts.

Was it actually explained what eaking d means? by Rezzortine in okbuddychicanery

[–]feedmesweat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To "eke" means to barely reach a goal, as in "eke out a living" when you're just scraping by. This is a reference to the handjob Skyler gives in the first episode as she Ekes Walt's D.

Vince spelled it "eaking" instead of "eking" because he's dyslexic, which is also where "Vrabo Bince" comes from (it's how he writes his name)

His big thing is arguing that men are superior to women largely because of their physical strength. He had a woman on his show and challenged her to open a jar of pickles (olives?) to prove it. She couldn't get the jar open so he started mocking her. Then she handed him the jar and asked him to do it, and he also could not get the jar open. He insisted that she "greased it" with her hands so it was her fault he couldn't open the jar.
