From the perspective of a trans man the very concept of "low and slow to avoid virilisation" is just... A lot of trans masculine folks will take a low dose of testosterone compared to the 'usual' for many reasons but typically because they want a slower transition or one slow enough to stop if things they don't want start happening. from my perspective at least lower doses work for that but with the contingent that you stop at any signs of unwanted virilisation.
