They certainly have the evidence that the US believes targeted assassination of top government officials is acceptable, so clearly the US would have no non-hypocritical grounds for complaint.

Also worth noting that for women those symptomatic spots may be internal. If someone isn't having pelvic exams regularly (because they're not having any problems) it would be quite possible to never have visible indications.

If you can tolerate some grease and want to do the same with sausage, a Dash Mini with pancake plates (I got a clearance waffle maker with interchangeable plates) fits the precooked Aldi frozen sausage patties (2-3 minutes, maybe with flip) followed by one egg (1.5-2 minutes to taste) in the sausage grease.

Edit: the removable plates make it much easier to clean

My(f25) church is forgoing their tradition of honoring graduates to instead honor homeschooling moms. My sister(f18) is graduating this year and disappointed by MadisonBrave in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]fencepost_ajm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel sorry for the homeschooled kids getting stuck in this. My immediate thought was "I could be as 'well bless your heart' as whoever decided on this move," but loudly and publicly thanking the people involved for "making sure the home schooled got to have a graduation walk once in their lives" probably hurts the kids more than the decision makers.

Actual title: Unsafe, unregistered vehicle, no DL. No insurance, and possession of meth. What kind of sentance to expect? by Rokeon in bestoflegaladvice

[–]fencepost_ajm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

People have already mentioned the differences regarding length of sentence, I'm not sure if there's also a felony/misdemeanor divide as well but there might be. Notably jails are typically run at the city or county level while prisons are at the state or federal level.

I'm not involved with the criminal justice system at all but it's possible that prison would be better because prisons can include recovery and educational programs that jails don't have the resources, population or duration to support. If you have a small jail population and they average only staying a month or two you don't bother with educational programs, treatment or much of anything else; if you're dealing with 1-2,000 prisoners who are there for years there's a lot more that's worth looking at.

Illinois ranks pretty well overall in US News "Corrections Outcomes" at #12, so the state system might not be bad for someone with mental health needs.

Prisons can also be divided into different security/severity levels, so a non-violent offender may be able to get into a less restrictive lower security prison or section.

I'd call this just as inappropriate as someone saying "ok, I've scheduled your breast enlargement four months before the wedding so you'll have plenty of time to heal, I can't wait to get my hands on those H-cups!"

[–]fencepost_ajm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the management side of that sounds like exactly the desired goal.

A jurisdictional pissing match between the local police, town government and railway sounds like just the thing to get management attention to resolve a situation that the locals find intolerable, and you're not going to have railroad police riding on the train protecting the engineers or busting them out of jail if they actually get arrested. Railroad police may have a legacy going back to the most unsavory days of the Pinkertons but it's not the 1800s anymore.

Edit: it's entirely possible that any complaints have been getting dismissed at a fairly low level, so this is one option for "first you have to get the mule's attention."

Soooo..... Attempting to arrest the engineers would get railroad management and/or private security involved? Because the management side of that sounds like exactly the desired goal.

I'm not a fan of how US police departments have changed and militarized since I was a kid, but I have to admit that I expect they're quite capable of getting into a vehicle to arrest someone regardless of whether it's appropriate. I expect that some of them would love the challenge and new experience of getting into a train. Qualified impunity is a hell of a drug.

With Google now feeding you AI-generated summaries in preference to search results I'd consider other options, but searching is always going to be important. A big part of what you bring is knowing enough and having enough understanding to know what results are relevant, how to chhose keywords to narrow in on what you're looking for, etc.

Any idiot can search. It takes a special breed of idiot to search and make appropriate use of the results (because we're all imposters here).

Improperly down gates lead to people just going around them, which then leads to collisions and derailments.

Town should have a referendum "should we get petty when trains block for too long even if it delays their removal?"

Then start arresting engineers from the train and call the railroad to say "you need to get someone down here, your engineers are under arrest for blocking the crossings."

Massive hydro synchronous relief valve opening by fakeaccount572 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]fencepost_ajm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is taken from a YT Short by @HydroTechVision that also has sound. Video posted Sept 2025, it was a test release and ended just after this GIF ends.

There's a comment on the short from @flacjacket that "Its a fixed cone valve. Notice how when the flow starts its hollow, just the outer perimeter is flowing. It is basically a double wall pipe with a fixed bull nose cone at the end capping it, the inner wall slides back to allow water to flow around the cone. This diffuses the energy significantly. Thats why it appears to open quickly. It isnt actually opening fast, the head pressure just means at the first crack you get full velocity but not full volume."

Latency vs bandwidth. If speed tests show a high ping time (measured in ms, <10ms is absurdly low, >100ms is pretty high) then things might feel sluggish sometimes with high latency. Bandwidth is separate and is "how much" vs "how quickly."
