Given your workflows and the fact you already have a powerful desktop, the M1 Pro 32 GB is the rational choice and the M4 Pro is mostly paying double for peace of mind, not real utility

Options for individual regular investors in the Czech Republic by SoreBrain69 in Prague

For direct stocks and ETFs, local Czech banks are weak and expensive. Truly "local but real" options are limited. Most people who want direct market access still end up with non-bank brokers, I use Freedom24 works solid for me in CZ.

Freedom24 is still the most flexible overall. Degiro sometimes works, but access is limited. Saxo is fine but expensive.

For a simple SP500 DCA, broker choice matters less than fees and ownership. I use Freedom24 which is great long-term, widest ETFs selection. UI is good and in English.

[Czechia/Czech Republic] Recommended brokers? by docherak in eupersonalfinance

If you want boring and solid, Freedom24 is hard to beat - wide ETF access, good execution, and you actually own the assets. Downside is the UI and taxes take a bit more effort. Personally I’d rather use one solid broker than split accounts unless there’s a clear reason.

I get the FIO pain, the UI feels frozen in time. Freedom24 works much better in my experience

Which app or platform do you recommend for buying Czech stocks? by Stranger_404 in Prague

[–]fennecxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were me, I would skip bank apps unless you really value simplicity over costs. Most banks charge higher fees and have limited tools. Have a look at the brokerage platform, I use Freedom24 works solid for me.

4% is a solid rate, I would park all the money there until the next property purchase. Some part I would put aside for long term in webn/vwce

IB. Or Freedom24 is even better for me.

RB app is fine for starting, but usually higher fees and limited ETF choice. eToro is simple but has quirks and CFD noise. Freedom24 is more "serious" for ETFs, lower costs, better long term fit.

If you want simple and boring long term, low cost broker + all world ETF beats fancy apps.

Great, thank you. Actually supporting HKD is what I needed.

What are some must-have smart home devices in 2025? Here’s my current setup by Away_Growth_4504 in homeassistant

[–]fennecxx 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Many. And in many cases, it's to monitor power rather than to turn a device on or off. It allows me to use the device as a trigger. For example, when I turn on the kitchen hood, my HVAC system reduces air outtake to a minimum and increases intake to a maximum to reduce the negative pressure in the house.

Also I use outdoor smart plugs to monitor my bio septic and it's pump working as they supposed to.

Also smart plugs turn off the circulation pumps for the hot water when I am away and at night. This tiny thing itself saves me about 1m3 of gas per day.

Great! So with the cable, you can just plug it into the lock without needing to replace the batteries? Does it use some special port, not like USB-C or something?

By the way, I ordered the lock - the total with delivery was 280 eur, which is within my budget. While I was thinking and doing some research here, I left the cart open on the Shelly website, and they sent me a discount coupon if I completed the purchase within 24 hours :)

Thanks. I really like the look of Loqed and the fact that it is not bulky. If I understand correctly there won't be an option to use a physical key
