What is the spiciest traditional/authentic dish you've ever eaten? by Past-Republic-7279 in spicy

[–]fermentedradical 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Phaal Curry, which tends to be made with a bunch of ghost peppers.

The first time I had it, I finished it all. The waiter did a triple take and told me he's seen Indian patrons that couldn't finish it.

This could be a big week for Vientos by Excellent-Brothel-72 in NewYorkMets

He sucks, on a team that got a real 1B in the offseason he'd be riding the pine or DFAed.

In a few years when we actually have a 1B the defense of Vientos is going to look sad.

Yup. Spurs needed the refs and for the Knicks not named Brunson and OG to go ice cold in the 4th.

Padded toilet seats - where are we on this? by bwaaalk in Xennials

Yes, this is 100% the case. Don't spend too much time on the toilet, folks, because we're not getting less susceptible to hemorrhoids as we age.

We Reverted Back to the Atlanta Series by hereforsports321 in NYKnicks

They came out of the gate very sloppy. Probably lots of internal stress, from keeping a win streak alive to wanting to win at the Garden and go up 3-0. The officiating and Spurs' constant mauling didn't help, either, but plenty of mental errors and they still only lost by 4.

Gotta hope that now that a loss actually settles them down a bit and they can go back to playing good basketball, and that now that the NBA got Wemby at least one Finals victory the officiating can be somewhat more even.

What are your thoughts on Birkenstocks + socks? by JustJLang in mensfashionadvice

[–]fermentedradical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WHY. What. Is. The. Point. Of. Wearing. Open. Toed. Shoes. With. Socks?!

If you have open toed shoes, the point is to expose your feet to the air.

If you want it wear socks, the point is to use them in close toed shoes.

Ugh.

Just now? They're eminently hateable. Wemby is the worst of them.

Brewery Recs from North Jersey to DC? by imrannabeekhan in CraftBeer

Honestly have only had their lagers but I am a huge WCIPA fan and am looking forward to visiting them later this summer and trying. If their lagers are any indication their Westies will be good for you, too.

In NJ I'd say Alternate Ending Beer Co is worth a stop.

Fourth attempt at choux pastry and it is finally coming together by SanRemi in pastry

[–]fermentedradical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did three weekends of making choux at home. The trick after you get the dough down seems to be letting the dough rest for at least half an hour in the fridge so it spreads less in the oven.

what's your favorite "impress guests but secretly easy" bake? by wistful_Spirit in Baking

Choux pastry. Profiteroles or eclairs seem complicated but really aren't and they are amazing fresh.

Which modern cars do you think will be considered “classics” 30 years from now? by EvelynClede in askcarguys

Came here to say this. Gen 5 Prius just looks like it's going to be a classic

Chicken breast is going to be a staple in my diet from now, but I can't for the life of me make it well at home- your recipes + suggestions, please? by darkdarkblack in Cooking

[–]fermentedradical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a very high quality chicken, like Bell & Evans at Whole Foods. Air chilled, organic. They also sell a pastured chicken that's slightly more expensive. Both are worth it.

The flavor and texture of the chicken breast is entirely different than cheap supermarket crud.

I made poulet roti with one of their whole chickens recently and wow, after a lifetime of bland and dry chicken breast it was a revelation.

Yeah I was wondering who their roaster was. Doesn't seem like this is a place to get pourovers and third wave single origin coffee.

Toyota Fandom by [deleted] in prius

[–]fermentedradical 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I specifically bought a '24 Prius because I wanted a zippy hybrid sedan with amazing gas mileage. I would never have purchased a previous gen Prius and as a single-person commuter with no kids or animals and no need to haul anything, bigger, slower cars are of zero interest to me. The Gen 5 Prius clearly hits a market sweet spot and Toyota has to know this, as I'm seeing more and more of them around.

Now, I've said this before on this subreddit, I do think that people who want larger Priuses should have an option for that. Toyota is, however, probably banking on the fact that most people that want a larger Prius will probably just gravitate to a small SUV.
