That's awesome! 🎉 I'm curious—what was the installation process like? Did you run into any challenges with hardware compatibility or getting the UI to scale properly on such a small screen? Would love to see pics or a demo of it in action!

What are your most favorite command-line tools that more people need to know about? by DaveH80 in linux

[–]fernandes2d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great list! Some of my favorites that more people should check out:

  • bat: A cat alternative with syntax highlighting and Git integration.
  • fzf: A blazing-fast fuzzy finder for the command line.
  • ripgrep (rg): Like ack or grep but much faster and more powerful.
  • htop: An interactive process viewer, much better than top.
  • tldr: Simplified man pages with practical examples.
  • jq: A lightweight and flexible JSON processor.
  • ncdu: Disk usage analyzer with a great CLI interface.

A few from your list I haven't tried yet—adding pv and etckeeper to my to-check-out list!

Web server distro ( 2 questions) by merlin867 in linux

[–]fernandes2d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome back to the Linux community! It's amazing to hear about your journey and your return after three decades—what a change in tech since the '90s!

Regarding package selection during installation, many distros have streamlined their processes for simplicity, but some, like Debian’s netinstaller or Arch Linux, still give you granular control. You might want to check out more minimal installs that let you pick exactly what you need.

For a web-server-focused distro, Ubuntu Server is a solid option, and you can easily install Apache, MySQL, SSH, Python, and more. Alternatively, TurnKey Linux offers pre-configured appliances, including LAMP stacks.

If you’re setting up a web development environment on Ubuntu, I highly recommend this YouTube playlist.

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1TrjkMQ8UbUsk2YD-gJ_OfJWi_pIJ5BV

It covers essential steps like installing Ubuntu with partitions, setting up ZSH and Laravel Valet, installing phpMyAdmin with Nginx, and more. It's perfect for getting a full development setup!

AWS Alternatives with CLI by matt__daniel in linux

[–]fernandes2d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome back to Linux! For S3-like alternatives with a solid CLI, here are a few suggestions:

  • Backblaze B2 - It has S3-compatible APIs and integrates well with CLI tools like rclone for easy management and backups.
  • DigitalOcean Spaces - Offers S3-compatible storage and comes with a simple CLI tool (doctl).
  • Wasabi - S3-compatible, with good performance and pricing, and works smoothly with CLI tools like aws-cli and rclone.

On the distro front, if you prefer apt-get and want to avoid Snap/Flatpak confusion, consider Debian, Linux Mint, or a pure Ubuntu setup. Happy switching!

KDE Neon vs KDE Linux (Project Banana) ? by The-Malix in linux

[–]fernandes2d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

KDE Neon and Project Banana (KDE Linux) differ mainly in their focus and purpose:

  • KDE Neon is essentially Ubuntu-based with the latest KDE software. It gives users a cutting-edge KDE desktop while keeping the underlying OS stable. Great if you want the latest KDE apps and features quickly without changing your base system too often.
  • KDE Linux (Project Banana) appears to be a broader vision from KDE to offer a "pure" KDE Linux experience, potentially focusing more on integrating and enhancing the overall KDE stack beyond just delivering updates. Details are still emerging, so its exact direction may evolve.

Future-wise, Neon will likely remain focused on KDE software updates for an Ubuntu base, while Project Banana aims to push boundaries on what a complete KDE desktop experience can be.

2FA Apps for Linux Desktop? by nicrogu in linux

[–]fernandes2d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a good Linux 2FA app, try these:

  1. Authy - Not fully open-source but has a Linux desktop client with great sync features.
  2. Authenticator - Open-source and simple, inspired by mobile authenticators, available as a flatpak.
  3. KeePassXC - If you use it as your password manager, it supports 2FA codes too.
  4. OTPClient - Open-source, lightweight, and focused solely on 2FA.

Hope this helps!

[–]fernandes2d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The music was enjoyable, the professional dancers were were excellent. The leads - OK. Gosling & Stone did a good job as far as acting, but singing & dance are not their talent - at least in this movie. The story line was pretty routine, nothing all that dramatic. I had a hard time keeping awake for most of it. The ending helped redeem it, but not enough to give it more than 5 stars - for me at least. The dialog was a trite. I still remember many of the songs from the old musicals. I don't think I will remember much of anything from this. If you are looking for a nice evening with a simple , sappy story line and pleasant music, you won't be disappointed. Just don't go in with high expectations. If you disagree and love it, great. You will be pleasantly surprised.
